Mao Asada at Worlds

A couple of days ago, I finally got around to watching my DVR of the World Championships. (I've been busy.)

The final minute of Mao Asada's long program was interrupted by an Amber Alert here in the Dallas area, so I didn't get to see it. (My home computer is too cruddy to view videos.)

I saw that the audience loved it when it was over, and Mao was smiling and the announcers were speaking favorably about it. I copy programs I like to a set of compilation tapes, and I was pretty sure I was going to save Mao's until the alert came through.

I was wondering what I missed. Was it some kind of Great Classic, or Really Good, or Nice But Not Memorable?

Mao was inspiring at the Worlds. I saw her skate in Vancouver last night at the Stars on Ice tour and she is in a word - exsquisite. She skated to Chopin's Nocturne and it was like watching a ballerina. Her line is absolutely beautiful.

It was just a good performance for me. She has skated better. I taped it but I don't have to see it again. If that says anything.

Have you ever seen her LP this season? Although she wasn't doing very well at the beginning of the season, I felt that she did her best at the Worlds.

Technically speaking, she was better at Japanese Nationals at the end of 2006 where she had a perfectly clean performance. But the performance at Worlds was still nearly perfect. Her triple axel looked just too good to be two-footed (sigh...).

Choreographically, I felt that the performance at the Worlds would be the best. Because her jumps used to stand out too much in the program, she and her coarches made changes in choreography. They changed circular steps to straightlight steps. They also added more chorepgraphy in the slow part.

At the Worlds, her slow part was more pleasant to watch. She also had greater contact with the music. Her jumps exactly hit the beat. She also had graceful arms and great extension, as always. Her stamina sustained very well, too.

I've never felt her LP music the best choice for her, or the construction of the program very well done.

But within the given framework, she herself did a great job performing it and exciting the audience. She herself appeared to have enjoyed herself very much during the performance. It was full of happiness and lively energy. I believe that it was such a memorable performance for many people. I saw American, British, French, and Japanese broadcasts at YOUTUBE, and all the broadcasters appeared to be very impressed, excited, and happy. Countless posts of this performance are online and each of them is viewed and favorited so many times.

This is my favorite performance of Mao. She really looked like she was getting so happy at the end and to see her cry at the end made her so sweetly human. I loved that expression after the final three jump combonation. Why peggy kept insisting about that double foot on the triple axel in another story and please don't start another thread on it, but to me it was not so.

I was curious. What did he mean by that???? "Kon-nichi-wa" is like "hi/hello" but it just didn't make sense to me.
