Mao helps Japan's economy

According to an article at Mainichi Japan, Prof Masaru Takagi at the Dept of Political Science and Economy in the Meiji Univ says that Mao may yield a positive economic effect of 5-10 billion yen (1 US$ = 90 yen) by merely participating in the Olympics. If she wins the gold medal, the effect would be even bigger. Kind of funny.
I am so relieved that she won so cleanly that no one can talk about a conspirary theory.

So that's why the U.S. economy is faltering! Is it just coincidence that General Motors was forced to declare bankruptcy in June, just at the time that GM spokesperson Michelle Kwan announced she would not be competing in Vancouver?

Ha ha. If Mao had failed to make the team, the sponsors would have been very upset.

In the Olympic season, Shizuka was on a TV CM of a rice company. The product had a catchy name, the "Gold Sprout Rice." But the entire media was focusing on Miki Ando. When she surprisingly got the OMG, the company was so grateful that they promised to send her their rice for the rest of her life. (Hope this company will survive as long as that and that they will keep their promise with an old Shizuka at a retirement home).

The article says that that Mao has 7 TV CMs, for 50 million yen ($1 = 90 yen) each. This may be comparable to top actresses and singers. I heard a few years ago Mao wanted to build a rink in the future.

I got this weird picture of old Shizuka rocking back and forth on a rocking chair knitting mittens with bags of rice next to her when I read your post.
