Starting a fan fest for Filipina skater Maxine Bautista! (I'll update this profile bit by bit in my free time.)

Maxine is the 2024 Philippines national women's champion (photo below). She does not yet have an ISU personal best but scored 160.07 at the recent Boston NQS. Hopefully she will be released by the US for international competition in July 2025. Her goal is to represent the Philippines in Milan 2026. The Philippines has never in its history sent a female athlete to a Winter Olympics.

Maxine is Filipina-American and has passports from both countries. Her training base is in Illinois, USA and her coach is Alexander Ouriashev.

New interview with Maxine Bautista. Here I understand that she says that her release date for international competition is foreseen for July, so she will not be able to represent the Philippines in the Asian Winter Games in February.

I have seen Maxine skate locally. Had no idea she was hoping to represent the Philippines in the Olys. She is a very promising skater with a super, supportive family. I think she still skates at Glacier Ice Arena and Center Ice. I wish her all the best!

that´s really cool you get to see her in person!
she says in the interview that she plans on competing in the Olympic qualifier in September 2025.
hoping either she or Isabella Gamez (or both) get into the Olympics because then they would be the first women to represent the Philippines in a Winter Olympic Games. :)

@aroundtheworld778 Yes, I used to go to watch Shoma train at Glacier and Center Ice when he came to Chicago for training, and many times Maxine was there. She was one of the featured stars in the Glacier ice show too. I remember her going to Marina Zueva for choreography, and she had some really nice programs! Can't wait to pass this news on to a friend of mine who was just asking me if I knew any recent updates! Thx so much for your post.

Throwback to this great 2022 interview with Maxine, when she was skating for team USA. Here she talks about her goals and also the trends in skating toward longer careers.

When asked about her short-term and long-term goals for skating, Maxine says, “My short term goal is always to make it to Nationals each year. Like everyone, I want to qualify and go to the Olympics. I definitely want to still be involved in skating even after I finish [competing]. My goal is to be a choreographer and maybe coach on the side, but I think choreography would be really fun.”....

These days in figure skating, there exists a clash of ideals: training difficult and dangerous jumps like quads and triple axels in order to be competitive internationally, or preserving one’s physical health by avoiding such risky jumps to have a long, sustained career. Asked her thoughts on these diverging ideologies, Maxine says, “In the US, definitely there is a greater push towards longevity. There are skaters who are still competing in their late 20s and early 30s. I feel like everyone is always trying to hang on a little bit longer. To have a long skating career, I would say that off-ice training is super important. Also, everyone needs to take rest days. If you go for too long you start to burn out, both physically and mentally.”...

Presently, Maxine is skating full-time. She is also coaching young figure skaters and finds fulfillment in helping them reach their goals. To her students, she offers the following piece of advice: “This sport is really tough and everyone gets so caught up in trying to win. But people need to enjoy skating more. Enjoy the process of learning new elements. Also, to have confidence in yourself and just go for it whether it be trying a new jump or competing for the first time.”

Just came across this Fan Fest… hooray! Thanks for starting it. Glad to follow along Maxine’s journey, although it’s disappointing she won’t be eligible to compete internationally for the remainder of this season.

Cool that she went to Marina Zueva for choreography. I wonder if there is a link between her choosing to represent Philippines and Isabella Gamez and Alexander Korovin working with Zueva as well (They were paired and trained by her).
