McLaughlin and Brubaker Skate Away with World Junior Pairs Title

 at her love of being thrown -- what an edge over other girls she has! Congrats on an amazing season!

Oddly, McLaughlin and Brubaker only had a throw double loop, as they are still working on a triple. But their near lateral triple twist was magnificent, as she cleared her rotations while still over Brubaker's head and parallel to the ice. (Almost all the other couples completed the move with the girl nearly back on the ice.)

McLaughlin loves the feeling.

“My favorite thing is being thrown up in the air, and I don't get scared,'' she said. “It is so fun. It has been my favorite thing ever since I was 3, since my mom was in the show and all the pair boys would through me up in the air and catch me and lift me. I just love it.”

I have always thought that that is the only way you could ever be a lady pairs skater -- you get used to being throw in the air by your mom when you are three!

I don't see how it is possible to switch to pairs (like Naomi Nari Nam) after you are grown up. It would seem to me that you would not be able to will your body's muscles to "trust" your partner the way a three-year-old trusts her mother.

Sort of like taking up the sport of performing in a flying trapeze act for the first time as an adult.

I don't think she was thrown by her mom, I think she said she was thrown by the pair boys that were in the show with her mom.
That too scares me! But good for her that she learned to trust so early in life.
