As for the logo, both exist but have slightly different feelings. Skipping grammar crap, "Gan(m)baro Nippon" underlines the feeling of "together-ness", smth. like "let's go/do it together", while "gan(m)bare" is just "go/do it, Japan". Not a huge difference though. And yeah, it's ん, which is often pronounced as "m" before "b". Btw, I am not sure that your "do your best" is such a good translation in this case. But I am not a "native English speaker". What a judging disgrace (politics???) that Gachinski got so much higher PCS than Song!!! Actually Song´s PCS was way too low, but he is a new skater to stand on the international podium. Reputation will grow now... In my opinion Song should have won the silver medal.

Our commentator mentioned about Hanyu that he hesitated too long after the second triple axel to jump a triple toe, instead he should have chosen a double toe. The mistake confused his rhytm. In my opinion he may have stamina problems, not doing full run-throughs in the training?

You don't know if that was the Russian judge. The judging panel on the scoring sheets are in random order.

Personally I find that stupid because then the judges aren't really responsible for their marks infront of the world like they used to be, and I have never understood why they are in random order in senior events but not in junior events. Does not make sense to me at least.

I think Yuzuru's LP is already designed with his lack of fitness in mind. The music slowed down right after the intitial big jumps and he skated a slow tempo with it the rest of the program but still couldn't handle the later elements. Canada's one term national champion Sebastien Britten too had asthmas and never achieved great success despite his brilliant artistry. Yuzuru's best role would be Japan's SP specialist for the Team event.

You count him out already? He was just 16 and have a great attitude toward improving himself. May be his health condition will improve once he grow up and get stronger. At 4CC, in the end of his program he is totally out of breath and you can see that his stamina is almost all gone; but this year his program is more complex and has more transition and at the end of his program he still look better than at 4CC. I guess the future will tell!

Since Hanyu has such a serious issue of stamina, perhaps it'd be better if he didn't place so much focus on the hard jumps which take up so much of his energy so that he could finish the other elements with more ease.

In practice, he jumped 3 quad (fell down one time), may be that also decrease his stamina. :think:

The Chinese skater is the only male who's impressed me all year. He landed 2 clean quads, but still barely beat falling Jeremy in the long and was still 16 points lower than other skaters who have fallen on a quad. I guess he needs to work on some "transitions" and "interpretation" (which usually means making faces to slow music, as far as I can tell.)

A few years ago a "macho" type of program like Dornbush's would've been the norm. Now it's the exception. Alexei, Evgeni, Phillippe, Elvis, Michael W., etc. would be toast under this new system.

I don't count anybody out. Just doubting Hanyu will realize his potential so young and early, especially with the major hindrance of having asthma. He is an amazing prodigious talent and I wrote about my interest in his very different and effective way of learning that would take him very far and very quickly. Right now his specialty is the jumps but has much to work on his skating and physical condition. His jumps started falling apart not at the end but in the middle of the program, after the big beginnig jumps and the regrouping slow skating.

Yuzuru is the little brother among the Japanese big guys and skating like it. A little time will change that. He still needs to grow, physically and mentally. That's exactly what he's doing but something cannot be rushed.

Han Yan's exhibition skate, just to show I was talking about. He does 3A and quads and is only 15 years old. His idol is Patrick Chan whose influence can already be seen in various up and comers.

Apparently after the earthquake Hanyu's rink closed and he still does not have a "home rink" to practice on because all the other rinks in Japan are full. Apparently he appeared over 60 ice shows this summer just to have practice ice...he's only 16!

He was on the rink when the earthquake struck and had to evacuate in his skates!

I know that's why i was kinda shocked that he/she would laugh at it. I was aware that Hanyu was on the ice during the quake and that he had to evacuate w/his skates on, maybe he/she is laughing about the number of shows hanyu did since it seems a lot for just one summer.

Maybe they just interpreted it wrong; 60 shows in one off-season is almost improbable, but Hanyu did seem to appear in almost every single show in Japan this summer (and they have a lot!)

I thought you were making fun of the way everyone is OMG! He's from Sendai! His rink is STILL closed and ALL rinks in the area are COMPLETELY FULL. He has participated in ALL (like 60) ice shows in Japan!

When the fact is that his rink has been open since July(according to a poster on FSU) and I find it hard to believe in complete absolutes.
Call me jaded or blame it on FSU. Lol. (Again, where's the slink away smilie when you need it? )
But I realize this is not FSU.(Eventhough many of the same people come here, too.)
So I apologize. I shouldn't have assumed. And it is a serious matter that shouldn't be taken lightly.
