Let's see if Nobu can keep his lead. And it's a good thing for a fan like myself to see his PCs pretty close to Weir's and not 30 like someone else mentioned.

No mentioned 30 re Oda - it was in answer to a question about Reynolds.

I get the feeling Oda was once again given very high GOEs - whether rightly or not, I can't yet say...

Unfortunately, I slept through it all and had to even rush to get to the Skate Dance. I must have a look at the Mens On Demand whenever they put that up. But reading some of the posters remarks, Nobunari did quite well. He's always been a top skater for me.

I was very happy to see Ponsero up there with the big boys. I just hope he keeps it together for the LP, For him it is a question of confidence, and if nothing else comes out of this competition but that,,he will be a strong contender for Euros and Worlds.

For the LP, Ponsero will attempt a Quad, but will Oda and Weir do the same? Tomorrow.is the time for it regardless of what they say or have said.

Have read the thread--thank you all for posting. :)

I love Johnny, and I'm happy with his result. I like Nobu, and his comeback is what I expected; I am very glad for him.

Gee, Weir got -1.6 on his combo because of the double-footing and -1 on the Flip because of the edge. The combo was probably a one-time thing - he looked really sick and the cough at the end of the program didn't sound too good. On the bright side a cold normally doesn't last too long and he has one day to recover now. But he needs to do something about that Flip - but the only the thing he really can do is getting a Quad in the short, because his Loop is not good enough - not that his Quad is... Perhaps he should do a Salchow, it's one of his easiest looking jumps and I can't even remember the last time he missed it. It would give him 4.5 points + 1 or 2 GOE - makes at least as much as the Flip base value.

But I thought that the program looked much better than last time, last time he was a bit behind the music - e.g. the entrance of the second spin was perfectly on the music today.

Ponsero: 6.7 on skating skills? Who are the judges watching? I have the feeling that the judges are holding the other two strong French skaters down - Préaubert with his amazing performances but extremely low PCS and now Ponsero. Even with the mistake on the Quad combo he had more TES than Weir. And the Ponsero's short is totally amazing. Carriere got nearly as much as Ponsero! I have nothing against Carriere - but please! Give credit where credit is due!

By the way, 4 Flip edge calls and one Flip ! in the short program - that's a lot.

I am glad for Oda - but I still don't get the fuss about him. The skate gods can have him back - in exchange for the cute little cyber swan back on the ice.

I, too, am glad for Oda. Well done, Nobunari.
I hope Takahito Mura will have a strong LP as well. The kid is young but promising.

Ew, Johnny's cold sounds awful... but at least he's plugging through. Here's hoping he fights to the end during the LP! Come on, Johnny!

This is Oda's event to lose. I hope he lands that quad and wins this thing.

i only watched jumps of oda. i thought them great. he got wonderful GOEs on his jumps. I am happy that morozov looked so excited for him. i thought that nerves may take the best of oda because this is the first major event for him and it is in japan. but i am sooo happy that he looked relaxed and confident.

You waited till she published her blog, didn't you:laugh:
But, if any man could break her curse this season, Oda would be the one. He will do well under the protection of his powerful ancestor Nobunaga Oda, the most famous war lord of Japan;)
Will he attemp a 4T-3T-3L?

It looks like my prediction is right on for this portion of competition:biggrin:
Keep it up, boys!

Oda was great, but despite the errors, I enjoyed Johnny the most. That was some true Johnny Weir magic for me. A world of expression in his limbs. The footwork is lovely. This kind of saved my utterly crappy day of complete fail. Thank you, Johnny, beautiful. *goes to rewind*

I'd have higher PCS for almost all these boys, though!

I just watched the SP on Eurosport. Interesting, as always in men competition!

I loved Oda!! He was just gliding, I almost had the feeling that he grabbed my hand and that I am spinning with him to this fantastic Waltz music! Wow, and his jumps looked sooooooo easy! Effortless. Lovely, energetic steps. Actually, I like him more than Takahashi.

Weir - reading all the comments after SA I thought that his programs this year must be boring. But I actually really enjoyed the SP (the costume, especially the cuts at the back and the neck - not so much). Somehow he looked taller than normally, and his leg lines seemed better. And he put all his heart into that program.

Ponsero - I don't know - his speed was great, his feeling of the music was good, the movements went together with music, but somehow, when the program was over, I felt terribly tired. Good performance though! Congratulations!

Carriere - I liked him, I must say. Not super special, but nice. The whole program was a bit scratchy, with small mistakes here and there, but sold the dramatic atmosphere of the music very well.

Reynolds - I do not understand the choice of the costume. Does not fit to the character of the music. Also, those pieces of material around wrist were very distracting (not mentioning his hair style ;)). But, I really enjoyed the second step sequence, because, in CoP era it does not happen often that skaters catch up with steps to a fast music. He did that great.

Super well said!

I'm better now though. Well, not better physically as in I still have a headcold but... wow, off topic. :p

Agreed. Oda's skated a first rate program and deserves to be in first place but his program did not sing to me the way Johnny's did.
