Men's Long Program

To me (I am not a trained technical specialist, but I did see the competition live on CBC) Van der Perren clearly won the free skate. His tech was just so much higher than anyone else's that even with the eleven points he spotted Joubert and Buttle in PCSs, they still couldn't catch up.

Between Joubert and Mabee, that was closer. Brian's superior basic skating skills put him ahead.

Kind of a tough outing for Buttle, but the season is young.

My faves among the Canadian men so far this year -- Chan and Chipeur.

I think the rumours in the Arena were about Mabee and Buttle - Not about Mabee and Joubert.

To watch the competition, one had to be disappointed with Joubert's Quad. I also think Mabee can hold his own with basic skating skills. However, as slow and careful he skated, VDP hit his stride in the tech and one had to have a sly grin while watching Chipeur. I give Chipeur the most promising award.

Joe, what did you think of Jeremy Abbott's free skate? He beat both Mabee and Chipeur in the free skate, but they didn't show him on Canadian TV.

PS. By the way, we will see some of these same skaters again at Eric Bompard. Joubert, Van der Perren and Mabee will be there, along with Verner, Preubert, and Chan!

I think the same thing. If only van der Perrren could spend a year or two under the tutoring of TAT. He could become a second Yags! So manly, yet with a feminine touch.

He looked to me like he was determined to keep the nerves from rattling. Unfortunately, he fell on the first triple toe I believe. He did manage a good 3Ax3T before then the nerves returned and his handd touched on a 3F, a pop up on a solo 3A, then slipped on footwork. Overall though he gave a good appearance. He has to work on nerves in future.

Indeed. Very hot competition. Scott and Ryan there too, but Amercian Men are not in style this season. Looking forward to Cup of China for the 2 stars.
