For Evan to win a WORLD title... how long has he waited. Don't know if people remember but he was Junior World SILVER medalist... THREE times... to three DIFFERENT gold medalists. Then not making it to Grand Prix Final... losing his National title... coming in THIRD for tha tmatter. What heart, good for him.
For Patrick - way to put it out there. Handled the pressure, sets him up beautifully for next year. Only 17! Someday gold will be his. Not if, but when.
My heart breaks for Canada, Vaughn was super, but 2 + 12 = 14... one place short of 3. Somewhere in Canada, a male singles skater's heart is sinking. Train hard!!
For Brian. I don't know. I have frankly always both admired his athleticism and brawn. At the same time, I have found him too uni-dimensional. I cannot say that he has really evolved since seeing for the first time at Europeans as a young gun 17 year old.
Was fascinating to see Tarasova backstage before the awards ceremony as shown by universal sports. She was imploring him to "never change... the moment you do, it is lost.." I suppose this is correct to say with but a year before the Olympics, but IMO it seems that is correct, but it is also correct because it is too late to change. If he can pull it all together, look out, but when the jumps aren't there, I'm not sure there is "enough"
One other thing, I love the use of US greats for everything from flower girls (US Nationals medalists) to awards ceremony presenters. Ken Shelley and Lise Marie Allen are lookin' good!!
