Men's Short Program.. Tuesday 16th, 7:15PM EST

Very very sad about Jeremy  I kind of saw it coming; skating after Lysacek brought down the house.

Indeed; my two least favorite skaters on top.. but they did earn it... What are the chances of everyone? Is the battle for gold and silver only amongst the top three? Are Oda, Lambiel, Chan, Weir fighting for bronze?

Biggest disappointments; Joubert, Verner and Abbott. How dramatic.
Agree with your least favourate two skaters. I'm so heartbroken for Jeremy. After he stated i just felt like going into my room and cry. Nice to know so many people felt the same.

Hope Dai, Stephane and Johnny will bring their top games for the LP and a good come back from Jeremy!
PS. I don't see the resemblence between Michal and Jeff Buttle.

I think one of the top 3 would have to skate pretty badly for one of the last to get a chance...the last 3 will most likely be battling for 4th.

On a good note for Plush, looks like a medal for hiim after all. I mean, unless he has a melt-down a la 2000 worlds long, than I'd say we're looking at a 3x Olympic medalist! Russia missed out on a medal in pairs, let alone gold, so I feel this time he'll medal....just not sure what color it'll be.

:laugh:Wow!..I'll never read all these posts.I'm so slow with my keypad, I can't attempt to watch TV and keep an eye out here on the breaks.

So:

Who knew about the N.Korean guy ..Ri , Song Chol..nice surprise
Woo Hoo for: Florent Amodio( my favourite french male skater)
Javier Fernandez
Dennis Ten
Artem Borodulin..( may he just be himself)
and golly.....Stefan Lindemann

as for the top guys : Plushenko.. laid it down ( as expected. great comeback )
Daisuke..what a fabulous skate. I could hardly contain myself.
Evan.....( keep the black) .I love it when they refuse to lose.

I might have shuffled the order there a bit , because Dai used his music best, Evan next, then Plushy..but hey, they're all so close , it might as well be a tie.

Nobu ..excellent skate, wish he had choreography that brought out his personality.
Stephane.. great to see him back.Enjoyed his skate.
Takahiko.. pretty good . love his skating .love the program

Simply devastated for Jeremy..such a beautiful skater, such a gorgeous program..hope he has a fabulous long.

Not so devastated for Patrick , considering the year he had,the pressure, etc...but these mistakes seemed to be pure nerves ( not usually much of a problem for him ) and a really good LP could still give him a creditable finish.
Brian ...hate to see anyone so deflated . Without his jumps , he's lost.Hope he fights back in the long for his own satisfaction, but it can never be what he wants.

Johnny ?..what can I say..

I am supposed to be happy that Plushenko is still in the lead after such a long night. But I am not. I am so sad that I want to cry, for Joubert, for Lambiel, and most of all for Abbott. I can't bear to see Abbott's face right after his SP again. The reality is so cruel!

I suppose that Lysacek, Takahashi, Weir, along with Kozuka, Oda, and Brenzina did very well. Lysacek is impressive but I still don't like his skating and afraid that my biggest nightmare may come true on Thursday.:scowl:

By the way, when he made a decision to come to Vancouver, he said "I'll be lucky if I get a bronze!"

Why do you say that? It's not nice((( Why don't you just give credit to a great sportsman who found the stregth to come back after 4 years...Funny that evrb supported S/Z, though they are just the same as they used to be 4 years ago, it's just that there haven't appeared anyone stronger. As well as in men's. there is no strong leader.

Nobunari probably could be a least 2 points closer to the lead, and therefore very much in contention, if he'd had a decent SP (music/choreo) that actually suited him.

So the field has been narrowed to 7 medal contenders, Chan bringing up the rear of that pack. It's insane to say, but i actually see Evan as the favourite now, or at the vrey least co-favourite!

Because who knows how Plushy is going to handle having to really "bring it" this time? Compelling event!

Edit: If neither Evan nor Daisuke are perfect or very close to it though, then Plushy will pobably run away with it.

This is what I'm interested to see. Plushy hasn't had people snipping at his heals like this in years. How will he handle this kind of pressure? Will he fold? Will he rise to the occasion? I can't wait to see. He was all business tonight, which is not unusual. However, he did look a bit nervous and extremely pale. I hope he's feeling okay. Anyway, it should be an interesting competition come Thursday night.

Do you think Daisuke will do a quad since he's skating right after Stephane and a bit before Plushy? He already have a beautiful LP and shouldn't risk it unless he needs to. He hasn't landed a clean one all season (well fully rotated but usually a step-out) and with him being thisclose to Plushenko and Evan, there's no margin for error.

And if I were Evan, I wouldn't want to make the same mistake Johnny did in 06 as well. That's a double whammy!

Or in a more accurate sense, Plushenko basically ignored his music. Still, there is no denying that he out jumped the competition by miles and that he has amazing ice presence. I'm fine with the standings. (Course, I'm in the minority in being a huge Evan fan.) It thought Evan was simply awesome. He didn't give up anything, never stopped performing, didn't let down the intensity for a moment. But neither did Daisuke. Very close, as the marks reflected. The difference between the two basically means nothing.

I think Lambiel, Oda and Weir are still in the game.

I don't like Evan's skating, and he's too much of a metrosexual for me to think he's attractive, but I think he's a cutie off the ice. He gave Mirai Nagasu driving lessons over the summer. And in an interview when Chan was blasting Joubert for always doing the quad, Evan went yeah... I think he does the quad because he can...

what is "metrosexual"?

Daisuke's planning one in the long. He'll go for it.

its probably sure that daisuke will try a quad in his FS.he said that even if he win without a quad, he never feel he is a champion.

According to Protocols:

Top 10 Guys in TES :

1 Plushenko 51.10
2 Takahashi 48.90
3 Lysacek 48.30
4 Oda 46.00
5 Weir 42.90
6 Brezina 42.50
7 Kozuka 42.14
8 Amodio 41.90
9 Lambiel 41.48
10 Chan 41.42

Brezina shoul be a bit higher. and Amodio made the top 10 here, nice for him, too bad he had such an early draw. The rest of the top 10 seems fair.

Top 10 Guys in PCS :

1 Lambiel 43.15
2 Lysacek 42.00
3 Takahashi 41.35
4 Chan 40.70
5 Plushenko 39.75
6 Weir 39.20
7 Oda 38.85
8 Abbott 38.70
9 Kozuka 37.45
10 Brezina 36.30

Again, Brezina got a bit robbed. Same for Kozuka. Nice to see Abbot here, the non mistakes parts of his SP were beautiful to watch. Im pleasantly surprised to see Plushenko ONLY FIFTH!! :agree: Takahashi being thirs is totally wrong though. He shoul've taken the PCS crown by far.

Top 10 Guys in GOE :

1 Lysacek 8.30
2 Takahashi 7.55
3 Plushenko 7.00
4 Oda 6.20
5 Lambiel 5.28
6 Amodio 4.70
7 Brezina 4.30
8 Weir 3.60
9 Abbott 2.80
10 Lindemann 2.70

I think i've found the new way for the judges to hold up their faves despite the Technical panel's decissions. Evan's elements while well executed shouldnt receive so much positive GOE. Odd to se Lindemann here, I guess thats what happens when THREE MEDAL CONTENDERS have major bombs

Dai is what???!!! I hope not, not unless his quads are at least 80% in practice. He can't afford a hard fall on it. I really hope that's not true. I'd hate to see the quad for him be a deciding factor in the standings to his disadvantage. Lysacek isn't planning it as he can't with his foot.... and I do think he has a great chance of going clean as a result. Plushenko is the only one who is consistent enough on it to risk this jump.
