Men's Short Program.. Tuesday 16th, 7:15PM EST

Well, I think it's only fair with all the bickering about Plushenko's programmes and skills and continious criticism, he got his claws out to fight back or possibly to initimidate.. And I agree about going backwards in jumps. Now it's like jumps are just tricks for points as someone previously pointed out.

Perhaps this has been said already, but I don't understand why Johnny Weir is in sixth. His jumps were PERFECT, and his artistry is terrific.

The negativity and mud being thrown at Plushenko by North-American media is not surprising. Before the SP and after, as it seems.
And as for Plush, why should he tolerate it? He truly hasn't said anything outrageous nor bashed his fellow competitors.
I agree on the quad comment, however I would like to see a program by Plushenko where he actually tries to skate to the music and follow a more "unusual" coreo. Oh well.

Come on... The article is written with a specific purpose of showing Plushenko as the "big-bad-russian".

*Sigh*

I'm in surprisingly good spirits today, with pretty much zero hours of sleep.

I see Plush has drawn the pimp spot, how lovely. I think this is going to be one of the biggest LP nights ever, as I really enjoyed last night, with the vodka help. Not sure what I'll need for the finals ... uh ...

Need to see everything again later today, to settle the impressions but right now, away from the heat of the moment, Lambiel was overscored, Weird under, and what on earth was Jouby doing I can't keep asking myself.

Still severely dislike Evan's skating and am more than blah about it, all the pressure on him though so we'll see. I think Dai will tank. Good to see Plushy getting some of his own back in those interviews, it was getting out of hand though I still think he's being portrayed as the 'ebil Ruskie' which is just utter and complete nonsense.

I don't likee Plush's programs this season, I think he can do a lot better. However, I can only agree with what he said in that article.
The reason I get so annoyed with Plush's lack of artistry is because a) he can be artistic when he wants to b) he's such a great athlete, it's disappointing not to have any choreography.

Oh boy "pimp spot" is now catching on in GS!

I have less than an hour left to work and then finally getting some sleep. Well not before I watch Evan's, Johnny's, Patrick's, Michal's, and sadly Jeremy's SP since I missed it (darn you ATDHE.NET).

As for the whole Plushenko is the big bad Russian (to the NA media), kinda like a double edged sword. Plushy gets tons of hate (I think someone said that NBC made him look like he's Lenin) yet hockey player Alex Ovechkin gets tons of love from the NA media (unless you live in Pittsburgh or a Team Canada uber). Then again both share 3 things: they're Russian, they're the best of what they do, and NBC hates them (as a hockey fan, I call NBC the "Nothing But Crosby" network).

I rewatched Daisuke's SP and still in awe. Now if he put his "La Stada" LP together like he almost did in Skate Canada (with a mix of his 2006-2007 Japanese Nationals and NHK performance to "Phantom", and his 2008 4CC performance to "R&J"), he could actually beat Plushenko and Lysacek.

Another thought... what if it ends in a tie (ala Johnny and Evan @ '08 Nationals)? I think GS will shut down from the mayhem!

Oh, boy, never thought I'd say this. But I really hope Evan kicks some serious *** and skates to the gold in the freeskate. That'll show that arrogant b* (this stands for "boy" of course, what else can it be) Plushy. Never liked Plushy's personality (since I saw in person how he treated everyone at Euros in 2001) or skating, but after that press conference, I am definitely rooting for Evan over him.

i agree with you.

There were thounsands of skaters who had as great skating skills in the past as present skaters do, but skaters in the past didnt jump any quad. so quads are the future of figure skating

What's wrong with the press conference? That he can actually deliver what he talks about?! And yes, nothing wrong at all with Plushenko bashing in the NA media, that's just fiiiiine and dandy ah? :rolleye:

Anyway

It has a lovely vibe to it, pimp spot

I have yet to rewatch it all with a clear head, but Dai's program really stands out in memory. Evan shouldn't have beaten his PCS. Oh well...

And please, please don't say such things! A tie? I doubt judges would allow it but seriously I don't think I could take it, my head would explode!

Is there a video recording or any sort of text-copy available of this infamous press conference?
Or am I simply too blind to find it in the Internet?

But what if it's a Daisuke/Nobu tie? Or better yet, a Daisuke/Stephane tie?

I was reading stuff on the isu.org message boards and they all believe Patrick will come back. *sighs*

Okay time to log off and snooze off to the sounds of Johnny's goddess, Lady Gaga.

I am looking myself as what I read in the papers is not controversial and most certainly not insulting etc. I'll post a link if I find the darn thing.

I wouldn't mind a Dai/Nobu/Stephane tie for second

I know, I read the papers too, same thing everywhere. They actually have him being a possible contender for gold.

Nighty night dear, sleep well!

I had a dream last month that Plush popped a triple axel in the long and Evan ended up winning... the Evan part is actually starting to seem realistic!

I have a feeling that Evan will skate lights out like he did in his LP at Worlds last year. Dai will skate well but falter, and Plush will be clean but cautious, with Evan winning overall, Plush 2nd and Dai the bronze.

i also think that with Chan pretty much out of the medal hunt now, he'll lay it down and come 2nd or 3rd in the LP and end up 4th or 5th, convincing him to stay in until 2014. I also think that Nobu will skate his Chaplin to its potential, charming the audience and he could be the biggest spoiler to the podium.

You SNOOZE to Lady Gaga? But her music isn't for snoozing ... it's for dancing in crazy ways.

You know, this is the exact scenario I have been pondering upon myself. It is probably Evan's last and best chance for OG. Even though I am not very into his skating the SP made me smile. The saying "10% talent and 90% work" popped up in my mind and for that I certainly respect him as an athlete.
As for Plushenko, I wish the best for him and wouldn't mind at all at seeing him take the gold . But...

But I am not sure how the judges will appreciate his cautious yet clean approach. Don't know. Depends on Lysacek and Daisuke. And on how good is "the view" from the "pimp spot."
:indiff:

I'm afraid Chan psyched himself out with all of his boasting about his transitions, choreo and footwork. He stepped out of the 3A (again), stumbled on the footwork, and botched his fiinal spin. Maybe Plushenko had a point about talking to the media before a competition being bad luck.

Chan boasting? C'mon now. He is one of the most humble, gracious, likable kids around. It's a fact he usually has excellent transitions, choreo and footwork and that's where the bulk of his marks come from. The excellence is recognized by judges and figure skating pundits and most reasonably fair fans. Yes he often struggles with his 3A but most of his other jumps are beautiful. The kid is barely 19 years old and still has years of top notch competition in him.

Stephane is not out even for Gold. Remember Euros, how much points he bounced back in LP even without a clean skate!!! I m sure he will be on podium! He is just 7 points behind the first.
thank everyone for vodka yesterday night!:)
