nykfan51 - When I think of Galindo with two hip replacements and then getting back on the ice to do shows 7 nights a week, I am totally amazed. Replacements are much harder to deal with than arthroscopic surgery so I think La Kwan may just try to get that record at Nationals in 2008.

Great news. I'm glad Michelle will take time to let her body heal properly. Best wishes to her. If Rudy can do shows after having two hip replacement surgeries (He has ceramic hips now, right?) I don't think it's impossible for Michelle to get triples back. Whether her body will recover enough to take pounding of eligible training remains to be seen.

Can't remember for sure but there was Denver media speculation about MK attending University there and linking her to this guy. This was waaaaaay before her surgery during a break on COI when she was spotted there. 2 out of 3 have been proved right (surgery and Uni) so why not the third?

I think that there are other reasons why Michell might want to attend University of Denver (its Poli Sci and International Relations Dept were good enough for Condi Rice) other than the bf. Remember, for a long time, Michelle was dating that ice hockey player ("Brad", but I forgot his last name), and they eventually broke up -- so I don't know if MK and her current flame will last.

You know, I'm still skeptical about this "boyfriend". When you say "linking her to this guy", exactly what was that link? For all we know they could be just good friends. And as to why she attended DU, it seems odd to me that she would make such a big move just for some boyfriend, and there's always the chance that the relationship would not work out. Something's not adding up here.

You know, I'm still skeptical about this "boyfriend". When you say "linking her to this guy", exactly what was that link? For all we know they could be just good friends. And as to why she attended DU, it seems odd to me that she would make such a big move just for some boyfriend, and there's always the chance that the relationship would not work out. The "link" is that she has been in public with him several times (movie premiere a year or two ago, White House luncheon where he was her "escort", plus she spent time in Denver after withdrawing from Torino -- I believe it was his birthday). She has (wisely, imo) tried to keep the relationship low profile -- but it's already been mentioned in the Denver press -- and now Amy Rosewater has spread it out for the world to read in her rather sour ESPN article. So much for keeping things private -- but with her high profile it was bound to become more public -- especially with her moving to Denver.

So they've been to a few premieres and maybe spent some "time" together. Still doesn't prove too much (by itself) but especially with the press the way it is I could see it turning into an "Oh, they're together!" thing. Now, they very well could be, I'm not discounting that. I'm just saying that unless they are actually spotted in a "boyfriend/girlfriend" situation (or either Michelle or "BF" - can't remember his name- confirms it), this is all nothing but pure SPECULATION.

The Denver U thing and the surgery were also SPECULATION until today when they were confirmed by the USFS article. The "boyfriend" thing also has yet to be confirmed (and IIRC wasn't her old relationship with Brad whatever his name is public knowledge as well...in other words, confirmed by reliable sources?)

Good for Michelle!

Instead of just doing promo work while healing, she's pursuing her education. Seems like her years as a representative of the US and international travel have lead her to decide on a potential longer term career.

She's fortunate that she has the means to allow her body to heal. Urmanov 'ruined' himself by not allowing his groin injury to completely heal.

I would be thrilled if she came back and won a 10th National title. If she can't get to that Olympic gold medal, the US record would be yet another factor to set her apart.

If she doesn't come back, I'll survive and be happy for her.

I doubt she'll come back to competitive skating unless she's totally committed to it. Based on past interviews, her father taught her to give whatever she does 100%.

If her doctors are in Denver, it makes sense for Michelle to go to school there while she rehabilitates. I wish her a speedy recovery and a happy ending to her years of pain.

But if you go into every relationship not doing things on the basis that it might not work out then it becomes a sefl fulfilling prophecy. Sometimes you meet someone and think - what the heck its worth it. Especially since up until now skating must have featured as the number one priority in Kwan's life, she may have decided to shake everything up a bit. I was also pretty sure that someone had pictures of them walking around somewhere holding hands - ok that's hardly comfirmation but as a celebrity you know the conclustions people will come to if you do that sort of thing with someone in public.

I'm very glad to hear that Michelle has had the surgery. I will miss her competitively this season, but hope she has a speedy recovery & rehabs well. I wish her all the best in her college studies.

OK with the assumption she's in Denver for the boyfriend, but I want to know why he didn't go to California?

I really think his family arranged for the hip surgery to be in Denver and this was planned some time ago.

It has been stated on several boards that Denver has some of the best people and rehab facilities for the type of injury Michelle has (not sure if it's true or not). As a fan I am just glad the procedure is over and she is moving forward with her plans to continue her education. I wish her 100% recovery.

My thoughts and prayers are with Michelle. I know she will make the appriopriate decision for her future, based on her health and her heart.

As for Denver, it has been speculated that that is where her Dr's are. If she needs 4 months of rehab, she's wise to move closer to her Dr. so he can oversee her recovery. I'm glad to hear she is going back to school in the meantime! Political science...wow! I never would have thought she would take this route. I believe this means she is serious about her recovery time, and won't rush back or even make a comeback unless her body is ready. I think many opportunities lay ahead for Michelle, on and off the ice.

Oh, and for the boyfriend...as many have stated before, if part of her decision to move to Denver has to do with this man, why not? If all things are working out and her Dr. is there, a college she is interested in is there, and a love interest...Someone said she is renting an appartment with her mom, so it's not as though she's moving solely for the guy, living in his mansion.

When Michelle was dating Brad, she wasn't really any more open about that relationship, either. They dated a while before we heard comments, and even those comments weren't like gushing,"we are so serious!" types of comments. She joked about him teaching her to cross check, and mentioned going to hockey games. We saw pictures of them at premiers and other events. Brad is in the spotlight more than this Christian guy as it is, so that may have more to do with it than Michelle flaunting her man.

Regardless, surgery, recovery, skating again, college, love life...I hope everything works well for Michelle.

I can definitely see that happening, and that's what I was referring to when I said that people will assume you're a couple if they see you together a couple times. I've seen this happen to both celebrities and non-celebrities (but it's worse with celebrities since then it's usually reported on entertainment news programs, the press, etc.)

In Kwan's case this is all still speculation but it still seems a little weird to me that she would move all that way JUST because of him. I would guess (assuming they're actually a couple) that a) there are other reasons to justify the move so that even if the relationship doesn't continue, it wasn't all for naught and/or b) she must really REALLY like him. But it's her private life and I'm only here to pick apart her decisions relative to skating
