Mikhail Kolyada

Today I think it was a very emotional thing, much more so than before. But you can see competing in Russia does the russian men no good. I'm sure the commentary will the scathing, but I hope Misha can rest and regroup a bit after this.

I don't know what to say, I am just so deeply sad...
He was able to bounce after Oly, he started the season so well, why oh why, when Keegan didn't skate well I thought well against all the odds Mika yet might go to GPF
If only this GP was not in Russia - in his state skating at home was the last thing he needed...
Mika, only please do not despair, you have such talent, you have so many fans, you can do it :ghug:

I want him to take some time away. I think going straight into the season so early was not the right decision, and he's stil reeling from the emotional turmoil of the Olympics. I don't think for a moment he's gotten over that, and it's not going to be easy to regain his confidence. But there was added pressure for competing in Russia, alll three guys had terrible showings.

You mean take the rest of the season off? I wouldn’t mind tbh. Nothing is worth seeing that look on his face again and again. Nationals is only a month from now and if he isn’t recovered then I would rather he stay home with his family and not think about skating for a while. But knowing Misha, he’s probably just going to train harder

Not necessarily the season, but I don't think he's had time to decompress even in the offseason, with so many things he did. Maybe he'll meet with Raf this week and they'll work some more, I don't know. The thing is: he's not emotionally ready for big competitions, and coming out in this state is just not helping him.

Man, i was still optimistic, expected him in 4th place at least. I am sad for him. If he skates like today, his end of the season will be the Nats for sure .... And at this moment i don't know anymore what could work for him. Is he ill? Is it in his head? Does the coach team don't work for him anymore? What is happening? He began so strong the season, he looked already ready to fight, the programs looked comfortable for him and now this disaster of GP:

I have no words, no words :sad21:.

This is so sad. I was convinced he could skate ok today. It was really sad when he finished and stood on the ice so lost. He needs help, he needs confidence.
Please don't defeat. Fight tomorrow. We stay with you Misha in spite of all, we love you! Because you are great!:console::ghug:

The worst of all, we've seen it all before - Artur and Maxim, somehow the pressure of expectations crushes every Russian no 1 or maybe Plushenko just cursed them all
Mika doesn't like competing anymore but he did he had it in him do you remember his first season 2015/2016? The way he skated his Nu Pogodi, oh it is too painful to recall now.
I just hate hate what the Rus Fed done to him

Hopefully Kolyada wouldnt be too hard on himself and take time to recover.
He was still blowing his nose right up to the time his name was called.
Then when he finished, he was twitching his nose like holding back running nose.

I dread the free tomorrow. Poor thing is going to be so uncomfortable

The thing is, he has to defend titles this season, and the added pressure of being number one, of having to show better results after the Olympics, it's not doing him any favors, and it's clear he's not coping with it. But as I mentioned, not even the guys with nothing to defend from past seasons, either ranking or titles, are coping, but Misha certainly has been hit the hardest.

But (no offense to Artur and Maxim), Misha is so much better than both of them. He isn't just good for a Russian man, he is one of the best in the world. And his beautiful personality....that's what hurts me the most. :sad21:

Sometimes I wonder if he still enjoys what he's doing, but then I see him smiling at the galas and banquets and in practice. I do think he loves skating, jumping, and challenging himself technically--in short, everything about competing other than the actual competing.

That's only makes it worst - he is such an immense talent, he is made for FS, he was not a nervous skater to start with we know that. I just hope he will get help from Rus Fed not just another portion of scolding, I think it might be a decision time for Mika - to change something drastically or to retire ( I pray not the latter!)

I noticed cos 1st time seeing him do that right before a program. He is not one of those who have a habit of blowing his nose, whether during the practice or competition.
I think only Yuzuru does that. The others only do it when they not feeling well.

His cheeks is also red, like what we would if we have a cold and been sneezing all day.

He had sinusitis in the summer after his trip to USA, and apparently it become a chronic condition which sure is not helping but the main issue is mental preparation at least IMHO, he did everything in practice

Misha's got chronic rhinitis, possibly after that bout of sinusitis in the summer.

The next competition is Nationals, if he misses it
that's it for the season anyway. He can do that of course, he already has two GP spots next season with his SB.

I just have that terrible feeling when you see someone you love on a self-destruct course but can do absolutely nothing about it :sad21:

What happened between Nepela & Finlandia Trophy?!

I've just realised he must have done 2T on purpose, he looked on the ice after the botched 4T and knew it would be downgraded, so he had a presence of mind to think of not repeating 3T - at least something positive! but then a pop :dev2:

And of course he's skating last in the first group :dbana: this competition can't be over soon enough. At least I am ready for literally anything at this point

I've got a terrible feeling that he even might withdraw...

My restless brain meanwhile has found a 'perfect' solution for Mika: Urmanov in Sochi, a fresh start, change of scenery, away from the Rus Fed + a much better climate to help his recovery from that sinusitis!
