Mikhail Kolyada

It's new. He seems to have gotten an agent after the Grand Prix series finished, and I guess the endorsement deals are coming in now.

I can't say I love it, but skaters have to earn money, after all. Hopefully he starts doing more shows (if he wants to).

He’s mentioned shortage of funds to support additional training away from SP (e.g., having to stay in a motel in a dangerous part of LA last summer), and his desire to supplement his training with more off-season “camps.” So maybe he realized this was just something he had to do in order to be able to afford that? I wonder whether he’s thinking about a more extended session with Raf in the summer.

Not against Misha having an agent, he just really needs a better one. Not some college girl. So far that agent has mainly turned people away (wth was that statement before Nationals? And this ad, could it be done more crudely?). Dima too needs to take back control of his social media (honestly, was there some sort of a two for one deal on agents in St. Petersburg?).

Why the assumption that Misha is planing to skate Carmen at Mishin's show and not an EX number? And low pressure? All eyes are going to be on him not to screw this up too plus he is not someone who likes shows.

I guess Misha finally will debut his new Charlie Chaplin exhibition program. He was a bit sad he couldn't show it at Russian Nationals and not at Europeans. They (ISU) actually wanted to invite him to do the exhibition in Minsk, but because of his injury they did not.

Yeah, I was wondering if they had the same agent :/ The post was definitely cringey (and the timing of it was not ideal). I hope they don’t give him a twitter account too.

Is it a question of money or a total lack of experience in the area? Both need these problems like a hole in the head right now. I hope they will find their way in the world of PR even if there is some stumbling at first.

On this subject, I hope Misha does not read his VK group any more. It's turned into a branch of figure skating forums. That group's admin is obviously frustrated with certain decisions that have been made by Misha/his team and does not care about keeping it all rainbows and unicorns any more. And from what he says he doesn't read anything. But I wish sometimes some info could be conveyed to him, like "could you maybe please consider getting a better agent?" It's not a criticism of his skating after all.

:laugh2:

The topic has been exhausted at this point, but judging from fan pictures Misha DID plug his ears before the free skate. So he wasn’t testing out a new psychological method or anything.

Yes, it's already been cleared up. Doesn't mean he couldn't have still heard the score.

Misha is being buried with such enthusiasm by the Russian figure skating community it really makes one ask exactly in whose way he is supposed to be getting. Honestly, did he have to be brought up during Junior Nationals too? Do they think once Misha is gone Russian men's figure skating will enter a golden era and he is the only obstacle? That Russian men survive at all in such an atmosphere is almost a miracle.

Sometimes I wonder how he finds the motivation to keep going tbh.

I like a lot of the Russian junior men, but I don't see the situation changing, not with fans and judges trying the same method over and over again. It's sad to see, because they have potential in spades.

.
Now Danielian got some. Is the assumption that the skaters do not feel bad enough and need to be kicked around a bit while they are down?

Don't envy Gumennik and then Samsonov if they don't single-handedly save Russian men's skating.

Are you referring to Plushenko's comments about Artur? :( Unfavorably comparing your junior men to your senior men feels like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Sometimes I wonder if they actually want them to succeed.

Makes me sad to think about  It’s good I don’t understand Russian.

Yes. And of course there is Artur's coach's fun behaviour towards him in the K&C. One good thing about Valentina is that she never allows herself anything like that in public. Do they have to make the guys' life as difficult as possible?

It honestly seems that skaters succeeding comes a distant second/third/fourth... to getting to sound off in the press, politicking etc.

Despite all his issues Misha has a much more robust psyche than he is given credit for if he hasn't been broken yet and finds the strength and motivation to pick himself up and keep going. I couldn't have and I respect him for it.

At this point, I'm not surprised about the state of these guys, tbh. The way the coaches and the community treat them is ridiculous, and the Fed at this point gets exactly what it deserves. I worry a lot about Petr and Daniil, because they are not going to survive through their junior stage, in the same way the other guys didn't. If it's not injuries because of training, then it's the pressure, or both.

Wth??? Did Tikhonov (who is from biathlon, mind, who is going to be commenting on figure skating next?) confuse the last names of Kolyada and Kovtun? Since when is Misha known for the love of luxury? Next we'll find out Misha has recorded a rap album. I mean, it's Kovtun's business how he lives anyway, but with Misha it's just factually not true. He is the last person to be accused of throwing money around. He didn't buy a car till he was given one, it's been said that he mostly gave prize money to his parents. Even people in figure skating who really don't like Misha have not accused him of living a high life instead of training :scratch2: But people who don't know better are going to read it and believe it.

It is really distressing to read this and many other 'experts' in the last two weeks. I was especially upset when Oksana Kazakova, an Olympic Champion in pairs, 'offered her vision' of Mika's failures. Apparently he is lazy, his jump entrances are just too sloppy, casual and basically he goes into a jump not really wanting to land it etc etc etc
With someone like Tikhonov there is at least some excuse that they do not know what they are talking about, I won't go into ethics now; but a figure skater coming up with such bs** I just can't ... And wasn't she a student of Valentina as a beginner. One might expect some sort of loyalty, no?

The good news is, most people in the comments assumed that he mixed up Kolyada and Kovtun's names. Unless Misha's agent goes crazy with these promotion posts, I think (I hope) people will know better.
