It's new. He seems to have gotten an agent after the Grand Prix series finished, and I guess the endorsement deals are coming in now.
I can't say I love it, but skaters have to earn money, after all. Hopefully he starts doing more shows (if he wants to).
He’s mentioned shortage of funds to support additional training away from SP (e.g., having to stay in a motel in a dangerous part of LA last summer), and his desire to supplement his training with more off-season “camps.” So maybe he realized this was just something he had to do in order to be able to afford that? I wonder whether he’s thinking about a more extended session with Raf in the summer.

Unfavorably comparing your junior men to your senior men feels like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Sometimes I wonder if they actually want them to succeed.
But people who don't know better are going to read it and believe it.
