Mikhail Kolyada

Glad they're easing off the training then. We don't want him to end up like Plushy (I love you Plushy, but Sochi was a lot of drama). Rest, if you need Mika!

I am afraid the sad reality is that most of skaters doing multiple quads will end up like Plushy - a human body just not supposed to do what they are doing ;)
Very saddened by this news. I read in the comments section that Mika's back was taped at Russian Nationals and even before he did say in the interviews how hard a 4lz was on the back & knee.
Considering these athletes doing such extraordinary things they probably need a team of people to look after them on the permanent basis - physiotherapists and such, and I am sure it is the case at the Cricket Club but I doubt Mika's team has resources to have same.
The sensible decision would be to pull out a 4lz for a while at least and go for 4T and 4T in conbination. But will they?
On the plus side it could be a timely warning to revise their strategy
Wishing all the best & speedy recovery:luv17:

It's a looong way from muscle spasms to bolts in your spine, let's not get ahead of ourselves.
They should have access to massage therapists at least. Obviously if Misha's back keeps playing up like that they will have to go easy on the quad lutz for a while. Maybe it is possible to work on strengthening his back muscles? But as someone noted this kind of problem is usually not even considered serious enough to mention in professional sports - it's only because he couldn't go to the Russian Cup Final that they felt they had to make a public announcement (though they could have simply not turned up and nobody would have been the wiser considering the lists only came out today).

Sadly, the back problems one started tend to become chronic. The first signs of issues with spine not always seen on scans when these do it is as a rule already at advanced stage. Speaking from the personal experience, doctors do not know everything, your body does - if there is a pain there is a problem.
Yes there are some core strengthening exercises and regular physio therapy is essential but it is all more in a way of maintaining the problem rather than cure.
But lets hope for the best though I must admit the mens layouts at 4CC read like sci fi - will all (or even a half) those quads be landed ?:scratch2:

It's sad but it's truth: amateur sports could make your health better, but professional sports just destroys it. So all the professional sportsmen should deal with some sort of pain during all their careers and unfortunatly Mika is not an exeption. What makes me a little more optimistic is that he praises medical treatment in their Academy in his last interview. And the fact that Konstantin Menshov, who was the oldest in a Russian team was training there until he decided to retire last summer at the age of 33, and he still was able to do two kinds of quads at this age. And the oldest active Russian lady Alyona Leonova traines there also at the age of 26. So what can we do? Just to pray that this medical treatment will help Mika to recover, and the pain would not been bothered him in the future.

So far it works, you can see men's warm-up from 0.45 his perfomance from 1.02.
Well, it was frustrating and weak perfomance from him. He fell from 4T, did a pop on 3A (4th time this season. What's wrong?), then two-footed landing on 3Lz. He did a bagel spin, but didn't do a billman. The cam on warm up didn't allow to see it properly, but it looked like he did at least 2 good 3A. Oh well... I just hope he recovered already and right now he will try to gain form for Worlds.

That's not good to hear :( I guess I should stop hoping for a good result at Worlds...

Lets not despair just yet! Last year he competed in Hellmut Memorial, IIRC in February and it was not good either, in fact, it was more like who would have less falls - Mika or Michal  In the end Mika won the comp but it was a poor showing and we all know how he peaked at Worlds then.
He obviously lost some training time due to his back problems. Still the way it looked to me it was mental not the lack of form and this is more worrying and harder to deal with. It seems he lost his confidence. Thanks to Russian Fed for all the pressure this season :dev2:
I hope and believe the moment when everything finally comes together is not too far away. Lets send all positive thoughts & wishes to Mika!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good you're able to keep being positive :) I'm afraid my favourite Men had used all the luck last season Worlds (besides Han Yan, that was disaster) and there's nothing left for this season :drama:

Mika withdrew from LP at St Petersburg's Championships :(
Was it planned to skate only SP or they realised he was not ready to compete - is unknown but it does not look good. One thing is clear it is not an easy season for Mika and mostly due to Russian Fed' interference - axing SP he loved was bad enough, pressing to do more quads than he was ready for was a way worse, I hope they are 'happy' now. Everything could have been different if MIka & his team were left alone to do things their own way :bang:
All kudos to Mika that he is somehow managing nevertheless to get some impressive results this season - after all he is the Russian Champ and Euro medallist!
Hope and pray all still be well...but feeling very worried truth to be told...

:(... but, it can't be helped. I just hope he isn't injured or anything like that, but that he really just WDed because he felt it wasn't working out, so why bother.
The interfering from the RusFed is really annoying, but at the end, specualtion of what could have been won't help Mika, he has to learn to deal with that as it won't go away (I really doubt the RusFed will learn that lesson by now, I mean, look at Artur and Max before Mika...). There might also be other facotrs involved, the term 'sophomore slump' doesn't exist for nothing. It's always difficult to live up to a great season. In that sense, I'm relatively happy he is struggeling this season and not in the Olympic season (of course not struggling at all would be better, but that's just not always realistic). Whatever it is that is causing him problems, he has the chance to work on it and let it not affect him next season (or at least, affect him less). I'm still hoping for him to get it together for WC, but at this point, I don't know what to expect. No matter what he does though, I remain optimistic that him and his team will be stronger again next season, when the first round of all that new pressure is over.
Although on a selfish note, I would have loved the Russian men to get a 3rd spot for the Olympics. But that is a very, very tall order anway.

I think RusFed deserves golden medal in destroying young, promising talents with high expectations. I hope that Mika will overcome just like Maxim did. To be honest I'm afraid that Mikhail might WD from Worlds as well. He didn't menage to fix his issues since Europeans and Worlds are in 4 weeks.
