Mikhail Kolyada

Yes, he said he'd had to squeeze those emotions out of him to finish the program. And his GOE are deservedly better that just about everyone at that competition. If only he'd got that axel...

It just proves what a cruel sport FS is - one split second of loss of concentration and you are out. I read also he did not had a practice in the main rink at all and it was weird to skate even in the warm up. Maybe that was a factor too. I still think they could have come earlier to settle. a
On FSO was a suggestion that he should go back to his old SP costume that a new one is unlucky - I am in favour of this motion!

I don't know, at Rostelecom Cup his SP was fine, it's his FS that was a problem. At Finlandia his SP was not perfect but better than his FS. NHK was the one where both didn't work, and at Nationals both were fine. I'd say his FS jacket has been more unlucky this season.

ETA: before getting depressed we should remind ourselves that at last Euros Misha was 9th after the SP.

Well at RoC he had a very weird step out on the axel - kinda of unexpected. At Finlandia he didn't do combination with 4T and then only 2T with 3lz. At Nationals he did well but had to fight for the landings. IDK I just dodn't like the new one I must admit

2T with 3Lz was deliberate though. But if you look at it this way then maybe he should bring back both of his costumes - well, maybe not, his last season FS costume was bad and I don't want to see it again. Maybe get two new costumes as many people have been suggesting?

That would be the best thing to do but only it seems that in the whole city of St Petersburg there is no single decent dressmaker for skaters alas..
And 2T was deliberate at NHK where he did 3T instead of a quad I think. Anyway he had a bit of trouble with 3A this season but when it is right it is the best in the world (for me anyway)

Yes, you are right, at Finlandia he wasn't yet able to do any 3-3s. But today he seemed ready, his 4T-3T was more confident than at Nationals. Something must have clicked in his head, as he's said. But there is hope for tomorrow.

When I saw his popped Axel I was like "Nooo Misha!". But I'm happy he managed to keep calm till the end of his program.
There are only 3 points of difference between him and Bychenko. Also Kovtun doesn't really have consistent FS. I think if Misha's FS will be clean he has some real chance to get bronze.

Also the picture above... Smiling Misha is the best Misha :luv17:

Even with the problems, I think he did alright. In both programs he never gave up, especially in the FS I never saw him that fast throughout the entire program before, I don't even think he skated like that at Nats. The two popped 3As certainly did him in. Something around 20 points thrown away.

Yes, he needs to do something about that axel. Not sure what's up with it, the axel itself is not a particularly hard jump for him. Psychology?

TAT was really vicious towards Misha in her commentary, I don't know what's up with her, really. You'd think he'd thrown away the entire program instead of popping one jump with everything else the same as at Nats.

I was thinking about why not going for 2 quad-toes - I mean, not that Mika needs to run crazy around for a solution, the 3A is a reliable jump after all. I think it was a fluke competition. Had he landed the two 3As he'd have won over Kovtun, but hypotetics doesn't matter for us. I think he needs to go home, see what working, see what's not, and move on. PCS' wise it was a good competition, because in both programs he went full on until the end, and that matters a lot to me.

First short interview:

Misha is very unhappy with his skating in both programs. Tonight after the first 3A he felt relieved that the barrier had been overcome, so the pop on the second caught him by surprise - he was too much in a hurry, should have held his shoulders a bit longer. Physically he was ready, so he thinks the problem was psychological. They will break everything down and analyse it with his coach after they arrive back home.
