Mikhail Kolyada

I didn't manage to drop in before (because I was all over the place while being in Helsinki), but I really, really enjoyed seeing Mika live! He did a good job overall and I hope he leaves Helsinki proud of himself and with more confidence.

The SP was really fun - he's one of those skaters who really communicate with the audience and the crowd loved him for it. His jumps made my jaw drop! He did the 4T3T in my corner, and while the 4T wasn't landed perfectly, he shoot up into the air again and had so much spring, he opened up that 3T so far above the ice! I went completely  seeing it. Even more with his 3Lz - that jump was basically fully rotated after less than 3/4 of the time he spent in the air! It's ridiculous! His way of moving is also pretty unique and gives him something special, and he has nice charisma and glide across the ice.
It's a shame he had trouble with the 3A again, while it's normally such a strong jump for him. But I'm not too worried about that... I'm sure it's related to him feeling the pressure and more a 'mental problem', if he gets a bit more confidence back and doesn't tense up going into it, it will be fine again. I'm a bit more worried about his stamina, because you could see him running a bit out of gas (even in the SP, at the end of the steps) and that IMO contributed to his jumping trouble in the LP. The sophomore season is always difficult though, and he fought through it very well. I'm sure he learned a lot this season, can use all these experiences well for the Olympic season and can be even better than he already is

Special mention to the fact that he is an absolute cutie! He was so adorbs in the KnC after his SP, and it was so cute when he reacted to the standing ovation after the SP... he looked so happy :luv17: And as a Yuzu fan too, his reaction to Yuzu's LP was just A+:luv17:

Thank you so much for your precious live account!!! I envy you so much!
Yes stamina is an issue but I think it is easier to fix than a mental block he got on the 3A and I think the 4Lz too because I read a report from his practice in Helsinki and he was able to land 4Lzs but when the music started for a run-through he fell on it, exactly as it was happening with 4sal earlier in the season. I am sure he works on it, he is working with a sports psychologist but nothing happens, somehow he needs to overcome that block but how? The pressure will always be there, next season more so, where is the answer. I hope he will find how and why and that we'll see that confidence again.

Maybe the off-season will help with his mental block - he can put this season behind him try to view it as a new start? I'd hope so. I'm not sure if the problem with the 4Lz is a mental block, I guess having to time your jump to the music in the background is more difficult than doing it without music just on it's own... maybe it's a bit of several factors. I thought going in he looked focused but not tense, which is normally a good sign and when he was in the air I thought he had it - the air position was good, and the rotations seem to come so easy for him! But he didn't seem to be able to control the impact of the landing or was a bit too late in 'preparing' for it, and that's why he fell. There is something positive too though in how he nailed that 4T afterwards! 2 out of 2 4T landed, despite the fact that he had trouble with that throughout the season :)
The pressure will still be there next season, but I hope all of the experiences of this season will help him deal with it better. It was the first time he had all of that after all, the important part is to learn from it. Fingers crossed he gets that sorted out!

And I hope you get the chance to see him live some day too. It's a really lovely experience

Seeing Mika live, the purity of his elements is incredible. You couldn't throw enough GOE. Beautiful jumps, great spins and skating skills. He's so close to the top, he just needs that tiny missing piece. Wishing him confidence and great programs for next year.

His command on the ice is also incredible, I was very impressed by his skating in person (it looks very good on tv but even better in the arena). I don't know what kind of programs he will have next year, but I hope they'll be equally quirky as his SP and LP this season. This kind of style suits him a lot.

I so wish we could translate & send to Mika all the live reports from Helsinki - yours and Beki and Li'Kitsu. Judging by his recent interviews Mika is disappointed with his season like not skating a clean LP all the season etc and there was lots of harsh criticism in Russian media towards him. I think our support would mean a lot to him. What do you think guys?

If there is a way to send him the translations and if you think it would mean a lot to him, then I'm 100% in. :)

Thats great. Lets wait for others opinions. But we would need someone with VK account - I don't have one unfortunately and translation wise I don't have Russian on my computer. Maybe someone else can help to overcome these difficulties - and anyway all this can wait till after the WTT

If you think it would make Mika happy, I'm fine with getting our comments to him too! He really had a demanding season and the RusFed isn't nice to any of their athletes... giving him any form of fan support would sure be great :)

95.37! His last skate of this SP made his new personal record! Even his score at Russian Nationals was a bit smaller - 95.33. It was a great skate of a very good programm, though it's not a case to keep it for a next season! I think he looked very happy to be and skate there, all the team was so bright, funny, and very supportive! And the audience stood up to applaud him at the end! It was great!

Now best luck for the FP! You can do it!:cheer2:

Congratulations to Mika on the new personal best and an amazing performance! I enjoyed his program so much, I think it was the perfect way to say goodbye to this short program. The 3A was beautiful and the 3Lz is gorgeous and light and a feather.
He really looked happy and relaxed, I wish these positive vibes for his fs too! Good luck Mika! :hap10:

Another PB, and deservedly because it was his best outing all season. Also, he was so close to the 4lz this time, so close! Congrats Mika!

Soo happy for Mika - the best LP of the season!!! New PBs in a short, long and total!!!!:hap93::hap10::yahoo: But the best of all - his happy happy face after he finished the program. The lutz practically was there just a bit more conviction on the landing - the judges did not even give him -4 - they couldn't it was so high, full 4 rotations in the air!
Oh I am just so deliriously happy that this difficult for Mika season has ended on a high note! :luv17:

The 4Lz was so close that I almost screamed.
And his 3A is beautiful again. I'm no happy that "popped Axel" curse is broken now :drama:
And personal records will be definitely some confidence boost and Mika needs it

And I am just after realising that should it have been a 'normal' competition, his total score would have held Mika in fourth place!!!

Today's interview with Mika:

http://www.fsrussia.ru/news/2959-mi...nire-postavil-khoroshuyu-tochku-v-sezone.html

Short summary:

Happy to end the season on a high note
The season though had some ups & downs, on the whole turned out well. Now the main goal for the next season to get on the Olympic team and if it happens then to skate well there
Already have some ideas regarding new programs
Will be working on making 4Lz consistent and adding 4sal too

He also mentioned in the post SP interview that they have been changing the way he trains and that it worked well but refused to say more: 'A secret'

Yes, finally! - That was exactly Misha's reaction after the FS. And he beat his previous PB by almost 12 points in total, and his SB by 22. It must have really lifted his spirits. And if he'd only jumped his usual 3A+3T instead of 3A+2T, his TES would have been over 100 even with a fall on the lutz.
