Mikhail Kolyada

I think that almost stumble, perhaps, played a part in it. But I'm happy about most of his other scores and I agree with them. I think the flying sit spin was slower today compared to what he can do and he was very focused on the elements of his program, so I accept that the judges didn't want to give him the edge in IN and PE. But the SS score above Nathan, even if he skated before, is good.
Yes, that's a problem with step sequences by Lambiel, they are damn hard to do perfectly. Yulia commented on how intricate it is after Misha's skate.
I kind of fail to see the all +3 greatness of Nathan's step sequence, but never mind.

I think the judges are willing to let his scores go up little by little. In a real world there'd be nothing of that, but it is what it is. At every competition he's getting better and better, it's there to see. I hope he manages to land his stuff in the FS.

A BRONZE!!!
:yes2:

However, I'm glad he popped the loop, otherwise he'd win this and people would go CRAZY.

Misha, you can do better than this, for sure.

Congrats on the podium! :hap93: His scores has dramatically risen this season. I guess judges like his falls on his humongous 4Lz  Well, I like it better when he lands it :p The only thing I'm really disapointed in is that even his 3A didn't work today like it usually does. Such a shame. :shame: Oh well, he'll just suprise everyone at the Olympics

I really hope he gets it together at least once this season. This was a very good chance to land the other jumps besides the first two quads, and win the comp, but ugh. Misha is either ride or die with the jumps, so they are there or they are not.

I hope he will peak right at the Olys :luv17: (and he will be more than ever similar to Kulik, who was also cold or hot with the jumps ).

Hi everyone!

I have been supporting Mika for quite some time now as he is well rounded and very balanced skater with nice character.

Congratulations on 1st GPF medal! He totally deserves it and IMO if he did that 3Lo should have won...:cool14:
I am quite surprised that people can't see why he gets his scores, just one look at protocols is enough to get an idea why...
His SS is very good, transitions are difficult and one of the best spins in the field. He actually did perform his FP and not skating crossovers from one jump to another imo......

Also, nice for him to get highest BV with only 3 quads but all fully rotated and technically nicely done.

Hope he will finally manage to skate clean cuz I know he can do it!
Good luck Mika!:hap10:

On another good note, Misha broke 280 with a new PB. He's had one FS PB and one SP PB this season, now he's finally brought together two not-crappy programs and voila. Considering how much room for improvement there is it's encouraging.

Yeah, I think it's good that he's been steadily bumping his SBs, and with the new PB, considering how much he left on the table, that's really encouraging.

They don't like him becouse he is suddenly contender to top 5 skaters... they like voronov becouse he can't be indirect threat to their top favourites chan, shoma, chen, fernandez...
Anyway congratulation to Mikhail! Bronze medal yayyy!!! 😀🙆🙋😃 i hope he can deliver his fs program next competition!

Congrats to Misha on medalling at his first GPF! To think, he could have won it all with one less fall... Hopefully he has better lucky at Euros :agree:.

Guys, it is all very well for us to say these things sitting cosily on our couches but I personally think it was an inspirational fight Mika put out there today. He looked like death before the skate - clearly didn't get much sleep and just remember all that was going on this week that's apart from having dealt with jetlag and all the usual pressure of the competition. I think in the circumstances he did really well and fought for everything. Yes it is heartbreaking that a pop on a measly 3lo cost him a gold but I have a sneak suspicion that if he hadn't done that the scores were different on PCS side perhaps and the placings would be the same...
I have more and more confidence in Mika as the season progresses, yes, he hasn't skated 2 clean programs together (yet!) but he deals with pressure better and better I think. Today there were 3 fully rotated quads and no pops on 3As. He is not falling apart after a mistake.
Congratulations Mika on your GPF debut and a medal!!! :hap93::hap10::hap85:

We also have to remember that he didn't train for smth like a week when taking care of his back.

I am not sure if we'll see a clean FS soon, the tech there is hard, but for now I'll be happy with a FS with just one mistake. Could he have saved that 4S? I know Misha has been accused of not fighting for landings hard enough.

Exactly, I was certain that they would take out 4Lz because of that but no they didn't...
I just can't get over his fall on the lutz in the short it didn't look like a fall at all - just a little restful moment after a flight into outer space
But seriously if Mika could have Shoma's ability to save jumps and Shoma - Mika's jumping technique - the result would be devastating for their competition!

Misha said there are no decent Russian words to describe his emotions, so he would rather not curse.
https://rsport.ria.ru/figure_skating/20171208/1129793805.html
This was referring to how he felt on the podium in China. And what Misha said was that a word hadn't been invented to describe his emotions, or, it it had, it probably wasn't of the printable variety. He couldn't think of a decent word to describe his feelings after winning gold? That sounds kind of odd.

But seriously if Mika could have Shoma's ability to save jumps and Shoma

This is what I was talking in my comment. His jumps are either there or not, he rarely can save the quads, he lands them or he falls. It's not really a comment on his state at the moment - really, it could have gone a lot worse considering the rest time for his muscles and the IOC ban.

And I did say just before that he's bumping his scores competition after competition, which is everything we can ask of him.

I think that saving jumps puts additional strain on muscles. Better fall than injure in a wonky saved jump. To fall and not injure is the thing that the gymnasts for example learn at the beginning of their career, i suppose is similar for skaters...
