Mikhail Kolyada

According to planned content on ISU, Mika has changed his SP layout to this:
4T3T 3lz 3A

I am not sure what to think, I hope it is not an injury or anything like it. In his morning practice today he didn't even attempt 4lz.

What I definitely like is that the combination is his first jumping pass, it gives him a chance to change things as he goes which was not the case with the old layout. Part of me saying is is a prudent and wise decision and another part is hoping that may be if the 4T3T is good he could go for 4lz instead of 3lz...

The layout for FS seems to be the same as at the Oly.
Meanwhile, Dmitri and his team are doing the opposite: keeping the SP layout and adding 4lz to FS (in addition to 2 4ts)

Edit: no I was wrong, Dmitri took out 4lz combination too (SP)

First practice (this morning) - thanks to marvellous Jackie Wong!
Kolyada: marked jumps in runthru, 3T, 3T, 3T, 3Lz, 3Lz, 3Lz, 4T3T(step), 4T3T, 3A, 3T, 4T3T, 2T(step), 4T3T, 3A(step), 4T3T, 3Lz

Afraid to say anything but 4T3T seems to be working most of the time - fingers crossed....

Misha tried the 4lz in practice today, but it wasn't succesful. I think it's a good idea to take a step back and regroup, because he wouldn't just get everything right after his Olympics. Hopefully he can skate clean and land somewhere close to the top with a decent competition.

To re-group is the very word I would use myself... a lot to be learnt from this season

But back to the present: Mika is to skate first in the last group I don't know anymore is it good or bad for him, for SP i think its okay, we'll see...

I'm definitely happy with that skate. I don't know about his chances of medalling, counting a fall on the 4Z in the long and skating the rest like he should, but let's wait and see. On another note, the combination of Chan-Hanyu-Fernandez not being there helped him score the way he did. No way he would have gone past a 97 if those guys were there. But it's actually a lesson for the next season. The judges are not going to backtrack on Misha now, so he could probably move that combo and the solo jump to the second half, and put the 3A in the first and then work his other quads in the FS.

Now Misha can relax and regroup again for the FS. He has a chance for the podium, I just hope he doesn't let it get to his head.

Also, he's skating 3rd to last, before Vincent and Nathan, so I think it's a perfect place for him to skate.

All season I've been too distracted by falls to really enjoy this program, but now that it's finally clean I actually get the hype that Misha has been getting. He's got really nice footwork and performs quite well when he's on! Bravo!

Considering how Misha immediately got attacked for simplifying the SP, I don't really see that happening as a longterm solution. But for now it worked.

He had already skated it clean once before. Well, except for losing levels on a spin.

It really boggles my mind how they wanted him to have simplified his programs at the Olympics, but now they want the opposite. I feel like whatever he does it's never enough.
At this point I don't even know what to say.

TAT actually called it a "ladies' program" and complained that he had no jumps in the second half of the program

I think they need to let him start winning medals with easier content and good GOE (because he is a fantastic skater that can rack up those points deservedly). And then let him increase tech with time when he is comfortable and more confident competitively. Take the Ws where you can and however you can. And for him to get a medal here would undoubtedly be a W! It's a step in the right direction people, let him stop skipping those steps and tripping.

I mean, if that's a ladies program, I wonder what the other guys are skating...
Misha is actually the second skater in history who got 100+ with a one-quad program. I know it's because of a confluence of things, but you can say Nathan is where he is because of a confluence of things as well.

Btw, that 4Lz he landed with a hand down on Tuesday, a bad angle but it looked like maybe he is trying to stop the axis tilt by bending forward more.

TAT is responsible for taking Maxim Kovtun a promising junior man and turning him into the hot mess that he is today. If they hadn't forced Mikhail to up his TES without him being ready maybe he would be more successful this season.

A man's program is one with two quads, obviously, preferably a quad lutz in there. Even if you skate it like Samarin on his last two attempts. Honestly, I was prepared to give TAT the benefit of doubt but at this point I am not sure what she is smoking (Misha's 3A is in the second half of the program) and she obviously is not even trying to be fair to Misha. It's CSKA all the way for her.

Misha won a medal at every competition this season except Finlandia and individual Olympics, so the medal count itself is not an issue. But once he developed problems with his SP starting from Euros simplifying it definitely made sense, he was losing too many points there. And I think it gave him a confidence boost. At least his 4T now seems better than it was at the last two competitions, fingers crossed.

He's the 3rd I believe, after Hanyu and Chan.
