Mikhail Kolyada

I couldn't watch it. Boyang was the last straw and the last i tried to watch. I think all men should start to think if those quads are really worth to injure and skate like this. Because i didn't enjoyed Umo at all, heck, all the last group was painful.

Not how I wanted it to go, but huge congrats Misha! Both for medal and earning with Dima 3 spots for next year!

Well, Mikhail and Dmitry secured 3 entries for russian men for the next year?

This is great! Then perhaps the federation will think a bit more their strategy. They have Dima as the new kid on the block with quads and all ready to be theri No 1, Samarin with the ton of quads and Mikhail with great great great skating skills. I think they should let Mikhail to built on those skills more and gather in GOE and PCS like he did in the short. He should start with the 4Toe and if this goes ok, then try the 4Lutz to built his confidence. But always to start with his weak jump makes him nervous as hell . And i hope he will go longer time to Lambiel and let him choreograph the entire program including the choice of the music. Look what Lambiel did for Deniss!

I think the way the quad lutz goes changes the entire way he manages to do the program - but it was something that started to happen in a more obvious way in the second part of the season. I still remember how he almmost cleaned his program at COR - of course with the falls, but he jumped all his jumps, and Misha wasn't able to do that at all after that. This is what concerns me the most.

I wonder of those two persons who keep insisting that Voronov should have go instead of Mikhail are now still so sure that Voronov would have got the bronze, i bet they will still say this isn't it?:laugh2:

Edit: By the way, is more than clear that Mikhail needs to go this summer to a jump coach if they keep pushing him to do that damn 4 Lutz. Call Mishin, call Orser, call someone please!

Great ending of the season
Ofc he needs to improve a lot but work is going better when you're in a good mood:agree:

Idk I like that he does 4l:slink:

Congrats to Mikhail for being a world medalist for Russia after such a long drought! :agree: Last one was in 2011 from one of my other favs, Artur. ( I hope the federation won't repeat the mistakes they did with Artur pushing him away just for the promise of the quads Kovtun brought. )

Still Mikhail has now an Oly medal and a world medal for which he has worked very hard and has to be very proud of both. :yahoo:

I kinda thought Sergei should have go instead of Dima, since Dima's so young and all, but yeah.

I'm very happy for Mikhail! I'm a bit sad he couldn't land the 4Lz though, he gets all the rotations in and lands, but then slips over? I wonder why that is? Mishin is the professor of jumps so I'm sure he could help him out!

I am in two minds about Voronov. He had a great season and i enjoyed him ore than i did with Dima or Samarin, but...he had over and over chances to show himself at worlds. From six times only once he was in top 10. Dima is a very promising skater, much more than Kovtun was, as he has good basic skills which was the problem of Kovtun. He still needs time and experience, but i think he is a good investment in the future for the next Oly. Perhaps Voronov will still skate for one-two seasons, but i don't see him keeping up with the changes till the next Oly. I am glad for him for getting the two euro medals and show that hard work pays off, but sincerely i don't see him able to keep up with what the Japanese or the Americans are bringing. I see why the federation choose Dima over Serghei. Perhaps would have been better for Mikhail to have someone in team with more experience than him, but who knows now?

Congrats for the medal! :)

But now can the russian man go back and analyze this need for the quad lutz at all in their programs? Or any other quad that's not working, because the guys are losing medals because of them. Both Dmitri and Misha could have been higher on the rankings, and of course, it's easier to analyze things after the competition, but you gotta think about these quads.
Well, it's not like the two 4T layout is working for Misha, that's the second time with a REP and no combo. It is very obvious now why they didn't want to take out the 4S. It's best for Misha not to repeat quads but to repeat the 3Lz.
Dima's 4Lz was OK in the FS, it's one of the 4Ts that let him down. His biggest problem is stamina, he simply doesn't last till the end of a difficult FS, any three quads are probably too much for him right now. We'll see next season.

On a positive note, huge congratulations on the bronze, third time lucky :clapper::cheer: Misha has brought home a medal from every competition this season except Finlandia. I wouldn't exactly call it a bad season.

Congrats on the bronze Mika!!!! 1st medal from Russian man since 2011 at worlds !! So happy for him! The performance was not great but everyone else was rough too and his SP was gorgeous so very well deserved!!!

Samarin doesn't have a ton of quads, just 4Lz which is prone to UR and falls and 4T. There aren't any Russian men with a ton of quads. Samoilov has tried different quads but without much success.

I don't think he can jump 4Lz as a second quad due to physical reasons. It takes too much force and energy. People who do a 4Lz start with it and not an easier jump for a reason.

Finally I can sit front de laptop and write something. Congratulations to Mikhail for this bronze medal, I’m so, so happy for him. Honestly I thought it was difficult to medal if we consider the other rivals but finally he could win bronze . He needs to work harder with that jumps but I’m sure and hope we`ll see a stronger Mikhail next season. I think this bronze medal is an incentive for him, should be an incentive for him. Now he deserves a good rest. BRAVO MISHA!!!!:hap93:

Congratulations Mikhail. He seems like such a happy guy. I'm glad that he's left the Olympics behind and I look forward to which programs he will bring in the next season. First russian men on the podium since 2011, that's amazing!

Awww Misha!!! A World medallist, FINALLY!!! :hap10::yahoo::hap10::yahoo::hap10::yahoo:

Ditto!:agree: :yay: This makes up for Boston, right? (And thanks for your great Olys fan cams, I subscribed to your channel!)

I know that people who are unhappy with his medal will belittle his achievement and say he got lucky because of the misfortunes and absence of others, but while I genuinely feel sad about the meltdowns (because I never want that for anyone) and of course would have loved to see Misha skate cleanly, that is just the nature of competition, nothing new. Many Olys and World medals are won when others make mistakes or are absent. Misha absolutely deserved his medal, his sp was gorgeous and his qualities were still evident in the fs despite the flaws. I hope he has a good rest and comes back stronger next season injury free with beautiful programs more like his Hallelujah and Metallica exhibitions. I admit that I don’t think Elvis quite did him justice, although I can see what he was going for and hardly think it was *cringeworthy* as one poster has declared about a zillion times. Honestly, it’s kind of funny but also sad how his detractors are the loudest and most persistent (do they get happiness out of being so snarky and unpleasant?), because I think there are many people, including the judges obviously, who appreciate his qualities and don’t think he’s being unfairly *held up.*

For next season, I wish for him to get smart technical jump assistance to be able to fix the landings on his quad lutz and sal. As others have observed, because of his athleticism and power he has no problem with getting superb height and full rotations (in contrast to, e.g., Dmitri, who I do like), so it’s very frustrating he can’t more consistently land them cleanly, especially because his falls are more like step-outs and not the hard wipe-out variety. I also hope he works hard on the sports psychology aspect. Maybe he can consult Yuzuru for his visualization technique. My wish list also includes his trying a different choreographer (even though I did love his SP and 2015-16 programs), whether it’s Lambiel, Misha Ge, or someone else, because I think he could do with a fresh artistic perspective to learn what programs suit him and to continue to develop artistically.
