Mikhail Kolyada

I was listening to some soundtracks the other day, and it got me to the Parasite soundtrack. I got reminded about how the most popular track is so good for skating, and I'm not sure anyone used it yet. It could be something interesting for Misha, more darker than he's used to, but at least he wouldn't even need to work on his facial expressions LOL.

And on the subject of his FS, maybe he could rework it for an EX, or even an SP. Or maybe revive some old program, or get new ones, I don't care. But it feels like, since he competed so much this season, it wouldn't be a bad idea for him to try something new. I was listening to TSL, I know, and they actually touched on this: Misha could get a new FS and then see how it will play out for some competitions, to go back to the old program if the reception is not good.

Even though I still love his FS, it feels little skated out at the moment. Maybe I'll feel differently when the break is over.

(Hi, I'm posting in this fan fest probably for the first time)
There's another interview about the costume: https://twitter.com/sunlight_girl/status/1381215521484513280
This part is interesting: "And this way - it's a bit culturally, but it seems clear that now there'll be a ballet. I even feel a little different in this costume. As I said earlier, the feeling of program itself comes to me, depending on what I wear. If I wear jacket, I start to do some movements that're not typical for me, but it comes from the image - some manners, micromovements, facial expressions - everything starts to change. When I wear the new costume for FS and look at myself in the mirror, I even want to stretch and grow another couple of centimeters."

I have to agree with what has already been said here though. I cried everytime Misha performed in the blue costume. I didn't cry watching Worlds and WTT. I don't know maybe it was because I was too nervous and didn't really fully feel it or maybe it was the costume. Because the blue one looked so ethereal and like bringing hope.

Welcome to our little community, Clairecz! Yes I feel the same about the costume :( and we can only hope that if the program is to stay, a new costume will be made. I would give a lot to see the new pants paired with the old shirt -I believe it would be stunning, a colour contrast would accentuate the high waist of pants which is not really seen that well next to grey, and pale blue & black is such a good combination ...sigh...

Another article on the dilemma of White Crow stay or go titled the 'Program the Whole World is in Love with'

I was looking at a post on Twitter that cracked me up. It was a thank-you to Mishin for the opportunity to vote for whether White Crow should stay (poster wanted it to), but also saying in no uncertain terms that the blue shirt must come back but the illusion mesh on the plunging neckline had to go, complete with a photo and with an arrow putting to the offending mesh.

Don’t think that’s gonna happen, lol. For you old-timers out there like me, our Misha is no Philipe Candalaro. And certainly not Nureyev.

As for the facial expression, I’ve made no bones about my dislike of facial mugging (with the exception of Sikharulidze), so I’m not sure what the answer is. I said to my husband that Mikhail is an inward skater while others are outward skaters. In the past, Misha has been accused of having programs that had nothing to do with the music; that certainly seems to be solved. But if he can’t do the mugging, how about expressing joy of skating? Or that yearning face that he uses for White Crow? (Which was about the quest for the perfect dance or to capture the sun). The sexy face into the camera tends to embarrass me no matter who is doing (looks smarmy) from a skater to a singer to a dancer, but I guess he kind of did that with Elvis. He can do sly faces.

Oh, and if you want to get your dander up, and I like to sometimes, read Fran’s recap about Misha’s musicality. (And Nathan fans, just.don’t.even.go.there.) I think she has a point, but it seemed to change with Carmen and WC. I enjoy reading/listening to anything about skating (including TSL) and there is a derth of content, so I take it in stride. Dick Button and Peggy Fleming def had their faves back in the day (D.B. couldn’t stand Plushy, and while he considered Yagudin the more “artistic” skater, he never once sung his praises.) I shrug it off—mostly. ;-)

I feel Iike I’m harping on the costume, but I read a little further the interview with Mikhail after Minsk where he talks about the second costume: “I actually have a second costume that is ready. I skated in it in practice but Alexei said no, we would need to do something else. It has black pants and a black top. I feel very comfortable in it and I really like it. One part is close fitting and one part is loose fitting, and it has a collar, which is a nice addition. However, from a distance of 10 meters it just looks like a black practice outfit. It lacks ethereality, romanticism.”

Exactly.

Just a few words about the new costume. The costume Mikhail was referring to in the interview from Minsk is not the one he was wearing now. This costume is the one he now uses in the exhibition (for example in Osaka).
The grey-black one was made only shortly before Worlds. He talks about this new costume in the interview from Worlds. The link was posted above, here is it again
https://www.olympicchannel.com/ru/s...nimayu-chto-menya-slyshat-togda-ya-schastliv/ (Russian)
and meanwhile it has been published in English as well:

Misha knows that most people prefer the blue costume. But he pointed out that he really likes this new costume as he feels it reflects the theme perfectly. He feels different in it (taller!)
I also liked the blue costume a lot, but I understand that Alexei Mishin wanted to refresh something. It was his idea to do a new costume, he actually told me that before and showed me a sketch that even Misha hadn't seen, but it was different from what they eventually made.

As for the program itself - Misha said that he'd like to try something different.
I love this program too, but I think let them try something different. Maybe they come up with something even better. And if not they always can go back to "The White Crow". I remember Aliona Savchenko/Bruno Massot in 2017, their FS "Lighthouse" was wonderful and many people said they should keep it. But Aljona said "we can do something even better" and they did. For the SP, it was a different story, the new Flamenco one they did wasn't working as well and they returned to "That Man".

In any case, I think it was a great season for Misha, coming back after missing a whole season and changing coaches. He can be proud and happy. He has achieved a lot, returned to his position as a top-five skater in the world, established himself as the leader of the Russian men and together with Evgeni Semenenko secured three spots for next year (or at least the possibility to gain three spots for the Games). To me he is the inofficial European Champion this year (he was the top European man at Worlds and WTT), such a shame that Europeans were cancelled, he most likely would have won barring any disaster.

Thanks for the clarification, Tatjana! I was thinking that it was referring to the all black costume after I posted and finally saw the exhibition. When I said it looked like Chanel, I was referring to the white collar and (originally) cuffs and the black-and-white design. Just prefer the blue or all black.

I keep thinking about music & style for new programs (somehow I am convinced that they will be going for a new LP as well as SP). And it seems to me that they are somewhat constrained as not to make another version of WC, so on the contrast to WC it has to be something either light & comical or fast & energetic. Now, would a light & comical go along with his new found look of total concentration? - not sure;
a fast & energetic might as well present a problem as it would only highlight a lack of speed (God I can't believe I say it about Mika!), so it leaves basically only something lyrical/dramatic again. Which brings me back to my original idea that it is time to try classical music, of course there was Carmen but as an ultimate warhorse we disregard it for this purpose (same for so called Mozart tango for a different reason) Why I keep harping on classical music apart from the fact that I love it and that is I admit not a good enough reason to push it on other people BUT judges, I note, love it too (not overused warhorses mind!). What propelled P/C to the top of the podium in 2015? - yes, Mozart's masterpiece, now look at S/K - did Bach help them to stand out in judges' eyes? - I would reply in affirmative. I am not trying to say that both would not arrive there on the merit of their talent & skills but when there are 7 or 8 very talented teams fighting for a place on the podium you need something to set you apart. And what can do that better than a great previously unused piece of classic?

Nikita Mikhaylov said that he made a new free skate for Misha
hmm not what I'd expected. No word on SP yet?

Apparently, Florent Amodio was choreographing Misha. (pic from Amodio's insta)

Short program was choreographed by Averbukh

So pleased that he is doing a new short and Averbukh is choreographer. I adored The White Crow it was a masterpiece. Would have loved him to have kept it. However I understand that perhaps something new for Misha would be interesting too. Better be good. As Nureyev program was definitely Olympic worthy. Want the best for him. He is my favourite male skater. Him and Shoma. They would be my ideal podium Gold ,Silver then Bronze to whoever lol 😆

I didn't think I would say it but I am pleased they've decided not to keep the White Crow. It kinda of lost its magic by the end of the season. I am looking forward to seeing a new LP and new SP too. They can always bring WC back for Oly. Why they chose Mikhaylov as a choreographer for the Olympic LP (granted all goes well in the season - fingers crossed!) - :scratch2: but surely Mishin had his reasons.

So its CoC and CoR for him, not too bad. The CoR being the last GP will put a lot of pressure on him to qualify for GPF in addition to the usual pressure of a home event. It won't be held in Moscow but Sochi this time so it might make it a little easier Idk.
Competing against Yuma at CoC could be crucial for the season. He needs a second quad so bad.

It's mentioned here that Misha will skate to Schindler's List
I'm not sure if this is true
