I think competing against people that you have looked up to as a little girl is quite an accomplishment in itself. I remember Cohen is one of the people she looks up to. She can say, I competed on the same ice as Cohen. Probably when she was a little girl she watched Skate America and Skate Canada on tv. Well, she doesn't have to watch it anymore!
Mira is actually my favorite lower level skater and she does bring a lot to the table but like all skaters she has her faults. What really got me is the sheer joy she expresses when she is skating.
Technically she is a whiz kid,
She has all her triples except for the loop, which she is working on now, last year in competition she only fell once on a jump and that was the 3 loop at junior worlds in the short. She constantly does 6 triple long programs
Her spins are being judges as level 1 and 2, including the Bielmann, I think you could argue that she does have the best position currently among the senior skaters who do that spin.
Her spirals are level 3. She does this really neat change of edge where she rolls her body.
However she does need to improve her skating skills, especially in her speed, she is an extremely slow skater; this really shows in the run out of her jumps. However I did see an improvement in this from Skate Canada in Oct of 2004 and Junior Worlds last year, the run out on her Axel was much better.
Mira has the technical skills of a senior skater but the skating skills of a junior skater. Normally we see skater gradually improve both set of skills or have better skating skills, like Cynthia Phanuf. Mira secret weapon is her nerves of steel. She is an excellent competitor.
Mira has stated she need to improve in her skating skills and she is a hard worker. So I expect to see more improvement this year at Skate Canada. I want to see all of our Canadian Girls in the top 6.

I agree with you totally with regards to the derogatory statements made against
Mira . If you are not a fan of a paticular skater, mentioning no name, you are ostracized. She will get a chance to show her stuff at Skate Canada and I will be in a front row seat at Mile One watching her.

I don't think anything anyone has said has stepped over any boundaries or been derogatory in this thread.

There is a big difference in passing a comment and stating an opinion then tearing someone to shreads.

I think Mira is an awful skater, and I see no reason why I need to stay out of this thread. If she improves her skating, then I'll be more complimetary in my comments. Until them, I'll continue to comment on her sloppy technique, her horrid stroking, and her non-existant polish.

To me, it is completely uncalled for to use such immoderate and hurtful language as, "this is the most awful skater I have ever seen." You would not (I hope) say that to Ms. Leung's face.
A post like Janetb's, which balances a skater's strengths and weakness in an objective way, is much more informative, IMHO.

Thanks so much for the video...I really enjoyed watching it. I can see what one poster was saying, she does seem to lack good flow out of her jumps, and appears slow on the vid...I am not the best judge of edges, but think I saw some. I do think her carriage (upper body) is really lovely; she hits some beautiful positions, uses the ice surface well, and appears so calm and in control, almost ethereal...I can't wait to watch this young woman develop, and wish her much luck!
Really loved the clip, do you have either he short or long I would like those as well. Gentle, innocent and joyful are the words that I would use to discribe Mira's skating. I was really surprised when I spoke to her at Skate Canada at the deepness of the voice coming from such a small girl.

^exactly. I mean I don't think anyone expects her to win nationals this year or anything, she definetly needs to work on her polish, but some of the poses she hits are gorgeous and with some more work she could go a long way. After all she is still very young!

Nothing personal- just an observation. Not everybody can spend thousands of dollars on skating dresses-not that there is anything wrong with that--but probably that's not her main priority. Like someone said in a previous post that she gets her dresses from a skating catalogue. Personally, I didn't think that it was a potato sack, but that's my opinion.
