Mirai's Triple Lutz Unfairly Downgraded?

You must be a Mirai fan.

I'm a Racheal fan.
I began to like Racheal when I saw her skating at age 3 on TV.
A real SWEETHEART.

I like them both. Is that allowed?

Is this like the rule that you can't be both a Rangers and a Devils fan?

I am still looking for a clear video of Racheal's 3Lz.

In the mean time check out this completely backward takeoff of a 3Lz 3T by Evan Lysacek. Yea I know he is a guy but wow he is "like totally awesomely backward" on takeoff and totaly rotated on landing.

Oh yea, and totaly outside edge....

I think I will tell my daughter to use this as an example of how to do it.

^ I am curious. What does your daughter's coach say about the question of pre-rotation?

Apparently not. You either like the artist or the athlete. So there.
Just kidding. I like both too, although there are people on this board that perceive me as a Rachael uber.
Mirai is just adorable, how could I not love her? And her humor just cracks me up to no end.

^ I like them both, too. But I have to say, a lot of this discussion has driven me more and more to want to stick up for Rachael. Some people seem to be saying, how dare Rachael offend my eyes by skating so ugly.

Haha, they will be singing a different tune when Rachael wins the silver medal at the Olympics (and Mirai the bronze.)

I have not asked. I just learned about the cheated takeoff in the ISU handbook for techical controllers and am trying to figure it out. The handbook is very vague with the statement "clear forward". What the heck does that mean,. Then I get conflicting comments on forums. There is even a coach with a web site called "skating jump secrets" where he says coaches should teach skaters to take off forward on a toe loop! I am not sure who to believe. Her main coach is a Dance/Moves/Freestyle coach in that order. He is the coach we started with and she has great edges, position, extension, and flow from working with him, She has worked with other coaches for jumps but I never asked about pre-rotation.

The 3T were downgraded many times, but not this season.
In slowmo, they were fully rotated in the SP.

In the LP, the camera cut off her landing blade so I don't know why people think she URed that one. You can't prove one way or another.

FYI, the 3Toe Mirai did was UR in slow mo. The 3Toe Rachael did in the SP was not UR in slow mo. What do you mean better? better flow? sure. Better rotation, Not even close.

You don't seem to be seeing clearly.

Rachael's 3Toe in the SP was definitely not perfectly rotated. She barely made the 1/4 turn mark and if I had a better view of how much she pre-rotated, it's possible that I would say the jump actually didn't even get to the 1/4 turn mark. The commentators had hesitation when looking at the jump in replay.

Mirai pre-rotates less on her 3Toe than Flatt does.

Mirai pre-rotates more on her Flip and Lutz, although they were all within 1/4 turn at this competition.

Both ladies had imperfect rotation in several of their jumps. Of those, Mirai's final 3Toe is really the only one that should have been downgraded.

You don't seem to be seeing clearly. They said her 3Toe completes rotation. What do you mean "the commentators had hesitation?" They looked at the replay and said, yup, she rotated that jump.

"feel" and "hesitation" are apparently your own opinion. Please do not attribute any "feeling" you might have to Scott and Sandra.

First of all, I agree.

Second, no. Just noooooooooooooooooo. Mah podium does not include either of them! :p

Then again (totally irrelevant, but I have to say it for the sake of just saying it), if either Yuna or Mao win, we're all gonna be screwed. It'll be negative Youtube x1000. Actually, the same will happen if either Yuna or Mao don't win.

It's a lose-lose situation, I say!

Saaaaaadface.

Carolina Kostner will skate clean and win.
Then retire in the Garden state and star in the Real Housewives of New Jersey. or maybe join the cast of Jersey Shore.

I wouldn't be surprised if the iSU lightens up on underrotation calls for the Olympics. Like in hockey or basketball. There are regular season calls and then there are playoff calls.

During the regular season there are a lot of ticky-tacky fouls. But when they are going for the Stanley cup the referees let them play.

The only toe-off jump that can be pre-rotated is the toe-loop, and even that, the pre-rotation is a body turn and a pique ballet jump. Prerotating the Flip doesn't work because you will turn where you planted the toepick and where does one land.? Totally impossible to prerotate a Lutz. It's a counter rotation jump. In order to cheat, one must Flutz. The Axel seems to be like the toe-loop. Edge jumps are widely prerotated especially in combos.

Indeed, the counter rotation makes for a rhythmically move besides. Maybe she'll start a bandwagon where American ladies with execute the lutz by definition in the near future.

The vast majority of Euro skaters execute a correct Lutz at take-off. Some Americans will cross one skate over the other to try to hide the actual takeeoff under the guise of showing a transition into the jump. I now actualy Iike the Liashenko approach (for sport). The concept of an attempt should not be considered beyond one season imo. The skater should do the work required to do a proper lutz.

One is not restricted in CoP, so leave it out if you can't do it. Lots of other ways to make points. One would not attempt a quad if one couldn't do it properly.

I wouldn't bet on it. That Swiss technical specialist is going to be there. You know, the one who made the controversial UR call on Yuna's 3X3.

I think the tech panel has too much power.
But.......my problem is not with how strict they might call an event but more to do with consistency.

If ISU feels that "dingfests" are the best thing for the sport then the dings need to be applied more consistently and fairly.

It is also unfair to the skaters and coaches if they intentionally vary the standard from event to event. If the tech panel wants to lighten up at the Olympics that would feel like a confession of sorts - that they realize such strict calls may be harming the sport.

Overlooking mistakes by certain skaters doesn't seem to be very sporting and imo can cast a terrible feeling of suspicion over an entire event.

It appeared to me the tech panel was not consistent at the US Natls Ladies competition although others may feel differently.

However they call it at the Olympics let's just hope it is consistent and fair, and without bias for or against any of the skaters.

On URs, I would definitely give it minus 3 in the GoE automatically, but if it does not disrupt the program it should only get a minus 2.

The down grading is absurd, imo.

They do not downgrade a Lutz when it is presented as a Flip. Do they? It seems they bring in this thing called an attempt[ into the score to appease the Flutzers.
