At dinner time the family will eat after having their munchies in the afternoon while watching a ball game, a nascar race, a figure skating show. I think that is the family time. You'll have to show me some statistics that rating will go up at dinner time. Yes, the entire day is a family day but by 7pm they are not going to do any TV watching. They may well go out to dinner, or call out for pizza and watch 60 minutes - not figure skating except for people like us.There have been studies to suggest that Sunday is a popular family dinner night
if the family does go out to eat it's normally lunch...
Is NBC planning on showing any skating on Sunday afternoon when the men's free skate was originally scheduled to air live?

Do you think the schedule for LIVE AT THE ARENA will change to suit NBC? That would cause a lot of problems at the box office for people wanting to leave St.Paul.It doesn't help that Hughes can no longer be promoted as part of the telecast. Her picture was featured in all but one ad IIRC.
MB - I would wait until NBCSports.com posts the final broadcast times. They still haven't announced anything so changes *could* still be pending. That may not be until the week of the competition. If you MUST set it sooner than go ahead and input those times. I assume the Sat. night telecast time won't change, but the afternoon times may still be shifted about.

I believe you are talking about the taped Men's competition and when it will be shown. Correct?
one thing's for sure though, they really need to sort this out now so that next year and the following year there is no confusion. I understand this is the first time they've worked with a network other than ABC but they really need to be mindful of the fans attending the event as well.
According to Phil Hersh, NBC is scheduled to announce their nationals skating coverage plans (including their lineup of commentators) later today (Wednesday). There will be a Pre-Game type show featuring Bob Costas, Dick Button, Jamie Sale and David Pelletier, plus Costas and Button will do a wrap up after each telecast. Details coming in their announcement.
For those in attendance, did Caroline participate in the Skating Spectacular? As hard as it is to imagine that the NBC folks would overlook her, the precedence was set by the judges in the free skate ...Feb. 2: 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.: Skating Spectacular (taped on Jan. 27)
That whole outlook for 2009 does not look good. If it in the USA I believe the network may show Skate America as well as the Nats. If NBC is really trying to get more viewers to Vancouver in 2010, they should make all opportunities to fit in some less competitions like the GPs for viewing.I'm not only concerned about which US network will cover the 2009 LA Worlds, but which one, and more seriously, if any will pick up the GP Series that season as well.
ABC/ESPN agreement with ISU expires after 2008 Worlds and so far no word even on who's in the mix negotiating to pick this up.
If ISU can come to agreement with cbc there's hope there will be one reached with a US carrier too. Probably won't know a thing 'til after this next Worlds.
