All from the old system, which doesn't dispute your point about ladies being less adventurous artistically. There were few who stood out for being artistic in unusual ways 10-20 years ago, and even fewer now. But we have only had a few years of the new system from which to draw examples.

Here's one of my favorites:

Thanks for the examples!!!

In fact I'm talking about now that the Ladies are not adventurous artistically. There are few who have a style on their own and the skating is generally static.

Gusmeroli, Hubert, Czsako, Markova, Kopac were adventurous artistically.

Kwan was adventurous choosing Taj Mahal and Salome, plus she had her own style.
Unique styles had also Irina (in her late years), Sasha, Nicole, Kristi, Tonya, Katarina, Caryn, Jill, Lu, Maria, Debi, Liz

Maybe it's the fact that the new skaters are really too young and not mature enough to develop a style on their own and to push the envelop artistically.

As Mathman would say, there is the 'it' factor. Once we get the top 10 skaters to do the improved spins, and all the other necessities for getting points under the CoP, we are still left to find the winner. So if the top 10 are doing everything correctly (hypothetically) what makes the winner?

The 'it' factor is not quantifiable. It's something that the skater brings out in the form of his/her personality. It separates him the quad skater; the big spinner skater, the intricate footwork and flailing arms skater. Speed and posture are all there. In essence, the personality of that skater will bring one back to be seen again.

It all comes out in music ability. Timing, rhythm, variation, mood setting, interpretation. Only the few have the 'it' factor.

With points earned in competition, I believe one has seen the Sport, but is it enough to come back for another look?
