No Flash Photography!

No Flash Photography ! I recall attending a figure skating competition in which the announcer stated, loudly and clearly, that flash photography was not allowed during the warm-ups and during the actual performances. While most of us applauded, a few in the audience continued to shoot pictures. UGH!

Everything I've ever been to, competitions and shows, there are always idiots who use flash.
Flash is not needed at competitions with the lights up. Flash won't work at shows...flashes are only good up to a few feet or so.
Flash is very dangerous to the skaters and very annoying to your fellow audience members.
I guess we're lucky those using flash haven't ruined it for the rest of us who follow the rules....they could ban cameras altogether and that would be a shame.

At one event I was at, the ushers did confiscate a person's camera who was taking flash pictures.

BTW, for Christmas my sister-in-law gave me a pair of little binoculars (sort of like opera glasses) with a built-in camera. So I guess the idea is, you can follow the skater with the binoculars and take pictures at the same time. It even has a feature where it takes 60 digital pictures per minute automatically. So I will have to try to learn how to do it. (I am severely tech-challenged in this sort of thing -- plus, I can't see very well. Maybe I can get the person sitting next to me to do it for me, LOL.)

cool MM! you are like the Bond of figure skating, digital equipment-wise talking. Those sound like an awesome pair of binoculars, makes me want to have some (I am good figuring out how these high tech things works... bummer I can't be there ). Imagin that, 60 pictures PER MINUTE!! it's like your own chevy stromotion... should call it mathman-motion!

I took a look at it. I had found some online a couple of years ago, which only had like 8MB of memory. One thing though. It says it will only hold 100 pics. Will it accomodate a flash card? I couldn't tell by what I read there. Maybe it's there but I missed it.

Anyway, it looks like a neat gadget. If I can find one I like, I'll have to get one along with a new digital camera for next year.

As far as I'm concerned, there should be a "zero tolerance" policy concerning the usage of flash photography at Nationals - and all other figure skating competitions, for that matter.

In my opinion, idiots who insist on taking flash pictures should be escorted out of the arena and barred from returning. Their film should be confiscated as well. If they moan and groan that they purchased expense tickets - that's just toooooo bad. Maybe it will teach them to use some common sense.
