Novice events

I was surprised with Una Donegan & Andrew Korda. Having placed 3rd in Novice Ice Dancing last year, I expected them to be polished and smoother than the other teams. However, their CD's were not great and she seems to have a lot of trouble with leg extension.

Something's weird with the Novice Pairs' scoring. For example Denney & Raad got a TES of 27.83 and a PCS of 25.53. However, their TSS is 35.75. It doesn't add up.

Is there any live feed for this apart from IN ? Or , if any of those watching have time, would you care to post comments ? I didn't get an IN subscription b/c virtually none of the live events were accessible to non-US viewers.

I think Donegan and Korda coach (Justin Pekarek) moved (to Florida? or something) this summer/fall. That might explain them falling behind where they were last year.

I think the sp scores for novice are weighted/factored. The CD was as well.

Thanks kate, don't know why I didn't figure that out for myself.

Missed all of Pipkin & Dunie Neustadt because the video froze. Coaches seem pleased though. Into 6th place.

Marissa Spector / Christopher Nolan
Video acting up again. Did see them both fall on their SBS jumps. Nice death spiral.
10th place.

Cassie Andrews & Nicholas Anderson
Good from what I could see (IceNetwork! Please get it together!) By far the cleanest and most polished of all the skaters.
Into 1st.

Cali Fujimoto & Nicholas Barsi-Rhyne
Okay. Typical Novice pairs program with no huge mistakes from what I could see with the cruddy IN feed.

They really should eliminate the twists from Novice programs. The men are just not strong enough to make them look anything other than incredibly sloppy.

Novice ladies has started

Kiri Baga

Great 3T, L2? layback, L4 spirals, nice 3S/2T, 2A slightly outside on landing, L4 Co spin to end.

(levels are guesses since you can never be totally sure).

41.16

2A, 3S fall and under-rotated (she fell on it in warm-up too), L4 spirals very nice, L3 layback, fall on 2F (possible UR), L4 Combo spin.

27.57, way under her score at Easterns (33)
