Obertas and Slavnov

I think he had an appendix surgery and they didnt have time to train, or something like that.

Honestly that's a pretty lame excuse. :sheesh::disagree:
Shabalin had an appendix surgery sometime in August or September, and they're still competing. Honestly, I think it has to do more with Obertas' mental state than anything else.

It's a shame, she used to be so promising. But at this point in time, he's a much stronger partner and IMO, he should look for someone else to skate with.

I read she injured her hip. The pair still took part in Test Skating and it made thing only worse. She can't jump at the moment. So she has been advised to take some time to recover.

Depends on the kind of appendix surgery. I had surgery for a ruptured appendix and wasn't even allowed to drive for weeks. It took a month for the enormous incision to close. Laughing and coughing continued to be painful for months.

I had a distinct impression last season that this pair could be on the rocks. I wonder if this is a chance for one or other of them to re-evaluate their future.

I think the two (Slavnov's appendix and Julia's mental state) might be connected. At Worlds, 2000, Julia's prior partner took a terrible fall, and, Slavnov nearly stumbled during a lift at SA when TT got her concussion, she might be really paranoid about practicing (especially lifts) when he is just the teensiest bit under the weather -- and so would start any training later than most other skaters who had similar surgery.

Thanks for the info. I know that I have read that they have had problems in the past with their training...meaning that they weren't working as hard as they should have. I suspect that this pair will not be around for that much longer.

I agree. Remember she changed partners because they weren't up to her standards. :laugh: :laugh: Also, Moskvina dropped them because of their/her lack of work.

I love Obertas and Slavanov. Aren't they a couple off the ice. I got my appendix removed in ninth grade and I couldnt exercise for a bit.
