Wow, okay I'm a bit confused about the Canadian teams ... why isn't Patrick Chan going, and I thought Amanda Billings was also on the team?

Patrick Chan and Kevin Reynolds are the 2 Canadian men listed. I heard that Amanda Billings is still injured and so Diane Szmiett (junior champ) has replaced her.

In ladies, I think the only suspense will be whether Yu-Na Kim can mount a serious challenge to Mao Asada.

The U.S. looks strong with Alissa Czisny and Christine Zukowski. Who is Megan Hyatt?

If Stephanie Rosenthal is called on, that would really shake up things, entertainmentwise, LOL.

Who is Megan Hyatt?

Hyatt is the 2006 U.S. junior champion and 1st alternate who has replaced Katy Taylor. Taylor withdrew from Junior Worlds on 2/22 (not due to injury) and I'm told she will provide details on her withdrawal in a journal entry to be published on her official site soon.

China's Binshu XU (7th at 2005 Junior Worlds) was listed on the official roster earlier but has since withdrawn as well (don't know why).

How can Alissa be lsited as a junior? Isn't she in college? What is the age cut-off limit? I also confused about ladies competing as seniors on the GP stage, the Nationals and then going to Junior Worlds?

The ISU "Junior" designation is based SOLELY on age (an ISU Junior-eligible singles skater in the 2005-06 season must have turned 13 by July 1, 2005, and not have been older than 18 as of the same date). See:

This is Alissa's last season of ISU junior eligibility (she turns 19 in June 2006).

About Katy Taylor and others withdrawing, is there any downside to a skater participating in junior worlds when she thinks she's ready to go on the senior track?

Maybe Katy is thinking Sasha will skip senior Worlds and she will get to go.

Even though Alissa is still eligible for World Juniors, I too question the wisdom of sending her there at this point. Alissa needs to rebuild her confidence, and finishing maybe off the podium at Junior Worlds is not a good first step toward doing that. That happened to Kimmie last year, but fortunately she put that behind her very quickly(obviously). All this wouldn't be happening if it weren't for that @#&?$#* minimum age rule. Janet Lynn competed in Senior Nationals at age 13. So did Bebe Liang, Michelle Kwan and Tara Lipinski.

Actually Liang and Kwan were 12 their first years at Nationals as seniors. And Priscilla Hill was 11.

Carol Heiss, Janet Lynn, Nicole Bobek, Tara Lipinski, Sarah Hughes, and Naomi Nari Nam were 13.

And they all had different careers. So what does that prove?

Among US ladies? That may be true, although there have been several who went from Junior Worlds to Olympic first alternate in one year, or the same year (Elaine Zayak 1979/1980, Lisa Ervin 1991-93/1992, Michelle Kwan 1994/1994).

And after all, there only have been 8 Olympics since Junior Worlds was instituted.

In other disciplines and in other countries, it is not uncommon at all for a skater who is age eligible for both junior and senior competition to compete in both in the same year. Going from Junior Worlds one year to Olympics the next year is very common. Going from Olympics one year to Junior Worlds the year after is not unheard of either (e.g., Krisztina Czako 1992/1993).

Sorry, I work where he practices. He's a good kid and I hope he does well. But that is the only down side of my job, sometimes I hear people's music so many times, even when I like it I want to tear out my hair. I love the program, though!

The skate-off between Mao and Yu-Na might be more interesting than the Olympics I think it's Mao's to lose, but Yu-Na might give her a run for her money. Third is up for grabs... maybe Alissa will get it if she doesn't have a love affair with the ice like she did at the GPF and Nats.
