Creating a thread for this since I did not see this posted anywhere on GS.
I attended the Open Road show in Newark DE at the Patriot Ice Center on Saturday, May 3rd. I wound up taking Amtrak to Wilmington, which is a two hour ride each way from NYC. (I had planned to take a bus initially and changed my mind once my friend offered to pick me up in Wilmington and took me to dinner after the show, Amtrak is much better than the Flixbus).
The show was worth the travel to see World Champion Alysa Liu, who did a show version of her Donna Summer FS, @moonvine fiancé Jimmy Ma and the amazing solo ice dancer David Shapiro. I also got to see Senior US Pairs team Sydney Cooke and Matthew Kennedy, who were junior bronze medalists last season and moved up to seniors and came in 10th at Nationals. I also enjoyed Jacob Fitzpatrick’s skate to Journey’s Faithfully, who skates for Disney On Ice.
There were skaters of all levels at this event, given it was a club show, including adult skaters and little kids just learning to skate. The Open Road theme included songs like “Life is a Highway”, “Everyday is a winding road” and “Car Wash.” As you can see in my videos, Jordan Cowan was there filming so you will be able to watch his videos without a hockey net in the way, lol. He filmed everyone at the two hour show and took the group photo at the end.
I’m glad I got to see this, as going to SOI is not feasible for me this year and the GA tickets were around $20, which was a good bang for the buck!
