Original Dance

La Rhumba I did see the ODs now and must have exactly the same conclusion as you do.
The russians for me had the notch for the IT of the Tango, since they played it a lot more like a passionate dance, but their skills I'm sorry are still a lot weaker than they get credit for.
The bulgarians skated like crap, and couldn't hope for more unfortunatly with that kind of performance. She wasn't on the same ice as he was as far as I'm concerned. Too many mistakes here and there to cry for a big mistake from the judges. Top 2 was crystal clear and noone can argue actually.
That's the first time I've seen that kind of confidence in Isabelle and Olivier by the way. They usually do some mistakes that added one to another cost them a lot. Their tango isn't the passionate style, it's the arrogant one and it suits them more than I thought after Bompard this year.

As for the FD, I think the russians one is just crap, I don't particularly like the french one either, and I think that the bulgarians one is cool but I don't get it as I didn't get most of their programs lately anyway.
So it's gonna be interresting.

Elek, nora's partner, was evacuated from the ice this morning. Still don't know if they'll skate or not.
And I am thrilled for french couple number two who wasn't even supposed to be at Euros and who will be tenth :) That's just cool because it means 3 dance teams next year whatever happens at the top ! :)

btw ITA with Anna, for me too it's THE tango of the season.
Albena and Maxim skated much worse than at the GPF where they got around 30 for TES. First Albena nearly stopped at the second sets of twizzles while maxim continued moving, then she collided into the boards, a few mis-steps here and there and rather inaccurate overall.
I don't know what's the problem with the spin, must be what Anna said.

She didn't collided Shanti, she pushed the board with her leg for a second, which doesn't affect any of the elements...And speaking about mistakes,i don't believe that the tango of Del/S was perfect, their SPIN-there was so much movement from the center and also he slipped at the end of the step sequence...
And overall their tango and the tango of Dom/S-like in IN and CH and transitions is a cut below the tango of Albena and Maxim

But you know what ,at the World the situation will be completely different-as Albena said-there will be a bulgarian judge...and they will be again on the top of the podium, where is their place!!!!!

Do you mean DenStav's Baroque dance of a few years ago? I thought that was very regal and fabulous choreography, plus they danced as a couple throughout. I don't think you can compare their OD to Kh/N's this season, not on any level.

But it's exactly the same thing. D/S dance was regal and beautiful, but not a waltz it was supposed to be, nowhere near to that. Kh/N dance is passionate and powerful, but not a tango, unless you just get to that point through the "exclusion" (because it's clearly not any other OD rhythm either, tango is the only one which is coming close).

Whenever or not they ice danced it, it in the eye of beholder. Kh/N aren't traditional that's for sure, but they do some quite interesting things out there.

In the eye of this beholder (who's willing to blather about things he knows very little about) what Kh/N did was a pairs exhibition without the sbs jumps or spins and modified lifts. That final thing they did was a modified detroiter fer cryin' out loud and had about as much place in a tango as a frog in a glass of wine.

It would really like to see a pair skaters trying to get through those steps and transitions

:frown: Oh Nooooo! Such a shame about the Hungarians, they had a collision at last year's Worlds, and now this bad news, they're so unlucky.

I'll be happy too Marie, as I'll get to see Romain Hagenauer in the K&C a bit longer. ;) I like this couple's FD very much, looking forward to hearing the Edith Piaf songs, and seeing his cute sweater. :)
BTW, do you have any news of Eve Bentley? Have she and Cedric retired now, and is she staying in France to coach?

It's been confirmed by Eurosport, sadly Attila Elek has broken his ankle in Practice this morning. His foot got stuck in a rut, and he said he knew he had broken it. :frown:

Poor Attila, poor Nora, so sad. :sheesh:

I wish him a speedy recovery and better luck for them next season.

Finally the 2nd ranked Brits Phillipa TOWLER-GREEN / Phillip POOLE actually skated well, much better than the CD, with a pleasing routine, but had a 3.00 deduction dropping like a stone from 18th to 24th. It was very worrying that they looked baffled in the K&C as to the reasons why, as there was no fall or obvious stumble, so the deds must have been for infringements of the rules, which is not good, to get to Euros and not have those ironed out already at this late stage of the season - their biggest comp. With TS Marika H in the UK, you'd have thought they'd have taken the opportunity to get an assessment of their programme re the elements, so it's a huge pity. Hopefully they can come back in the FD, though even without the deds they'd have still dropped after the OD behind the Czechs.

LaRhumba, do you have any idea or have you heard anything on what these "rule infringements" may have been? 3.00 is a LOT; a couple would get less than that for smacking into the boards and sliding to the other end of the arena......

Their RoLi was considered to be "interrupted" and split into two RoLi, so -2 are for extra element. Don't remember what another -1 is for.

I like very much Jaana K./Sergei Novitski. They are different and very passionate. :agree:

Thanks for the updates Anna & Aphrodite. TG/P's season is over now, as we only have one couple for Worlds, but I feel the Kerr's need a stronger #2 behind them, as it all helps to push you forward.
