Well...We're close to 24 hrs away from the announcement. Any predictions?

Jennifer Hudson, Helen Mirren, Forrest Whittaker and more than likely Leo DiCaprio will be hearing their names Tuesday morning. I'm also betting on The Queen, Dreamgirls and The Departed will all be getting noms for Best Picture as well.

I hope that Canada's Water ends up on that Foreign Film shorter short list. ;) Also that Sarah McLauglin gets a nod for her song for Charlotte's Web. W/Dreamgirls and Cars though....Might be an outside shot.

So...Anyone else? :)
 
Sigh...I knew I'd forgotten one movie up there. Call it that Post Cdns haze/let down settling in... ;) Yeah, Babel will be nominated too for Best Picture.

That leaves either one or two, can never remember, more slots for Best Picture. Wonder who will fill the void?
 
I wouldn't be surprised if Letters of Iwo Jima makes the cut... but I am not sure if it would be in the main category or foriegn film... it's done in Japanese, but produced by an American team of superstars... hmmmmmm
 
The Academy for the first time ever released a short list of movies they are considering for the nominations for Best Foreign Film two weeks ago. Letters of Iwo Jima wasn't on it.
 
There's always at least one spoiler at the Oscars...

but I won't venture any guesses until the SAG Awards (which is pretty much a preview as to who gets what come Oscar night)
 
I'm not excited about the Oscars for the first time because you already know that Helen Mira will win Best Actress for the Queen (ho-hum...) ... (I'm sorry but I'm bitter that Kate Winslet didn't win the Golden Globe for her awesome performance in Little Children...)

Interesting the home page follows / supports my ongoing theory. When it becomes a question of which one, just look for the catch phrase from the movie. " would the academy like it???

Best Pic:
The Queen
Dreamgrils
Babel
The Departed
Letters from Iwo Jima

Could also throw Little Miss Sunsine (LMS) or The Devil Wears Prada in there somewhere..Would be REALLY cool to see Pan's Labyrinth in that mix!

Best Actor:
Leo
Forest Whitaker
Borat
O'Toole
Gosling
You can throw in Will Smith or Ed Norton in the mix.
Win: Looks like Whitaker, but I don't think he's a lock..


Best Actress:
Helen
Meryl
Kate
Dame Judi
Penelope Cruz
You can throw Annette Bening and Maggie Gyllenhaal in there.
Win: Helen Mirren is WAY overdue for an Oscar.. I think she is a lock. Although, Meryl as been nominated 15 times and only won twice....so this may be her 3rd Oscar?

Supporting Actor:
I see Eddie winning all the way!
Although, Alan Arkin was wonderful in LMS.

Supporting Actress:
I see Jennifer Hudson winning all the way!
I think Cate would have won if she hadn't already won two years ago for The Aviator.. I would LOVE to see Abigail Breslin nominated for LMS!

I see Pan's Labyrinth taking all the awards Memoirs of a Geshia did last year for art designs, make-up, etc..
 
Pan was in that short list for BFF if I remember right. I can easily see it being announced for the shorter short list. If not, then it more than likely will end up w/an Nom in the Animated category.

I also think Cate Blanchett will get a nod for Best Supporting for Notes on a Scandal. Friend of mine saw it on the weekend and said both her and Dame Judi were amazing in it.

Can't wait to hear what the surprises will be!!

Pan's Labyrinth is not a short film nor is it animated.. It is a full length film and it is nominated for 6 Oscars..

I can't believe that Dreamgirls wasn't nominated for best pic!? Hmmm? Oh well, I'm glad to see that Little Miss Sunshine is in there..I'm thrilled to see little Abigail up for supporting actress for LMS.. She is so cute!

I think with all the recent success with Moulin Rouge and Chicago that the Academy wasn't ready to give the big nom to another musical this soon..

Well....That was interesting. So much for no surprises in the nominations...Dreamgirls not being nominated for Best Picture. That's a bit of a shocker there, but good for Little Miss Sunshine!!

I haven't seen Pan's, but there is animation in it, isn't there? That's more than likely what made me think it was completely animated.

I'm not really sure about Pan's? I only know what I have read and seen in mags. I can't wait to see it though.. Looks like a great fantasy film!
 
Same here, so we're in the same boat. I also can't wait to see it, but more than likely will have to wait until DVD.

The joys of being in the middle of nowhere. :rolleyes:
 
The score category is looking VERY grim. 4 of the 5 are good but they've neglected some of the best of the year that should rank above these, namely Lady In The Water, Charlotte's Web, Little Children (nice that Newman got nominated once more but he got it for the wrong movie!) and, pretty much every score fan is bound to agree, THE FOUNTAIN. Any of these would be a better choice than The Queen or even a few of the other nominees. I'm not sure who I'll be rooting for... probably Thomas Newman who is long overdue for acknowledgement.

No wonder Bernard Herman left the Academy in the 70s. The only thing worth watching this year is to see Ennio Morricone get his long-awaited Oscar for Lifetime Achievement Award.
 
I thought Little Miss Sunshine was a great film. Despite some of the crazy situations they're in, that has to be the most realistic film family I've ever seen. :)
 
I was surprised that Dreamgirls had 3 nominated for Best Song. I'm not surprised about 'Listen', but Patience and the other song surprised me.

For some reason, I wasn't shocked that Dreamgirls wasn't nominated for BP. Maybe it was because of Chicago or Moulin Rouge. Dreamgirls was a beautifully crafted movie, but there were a lot of movies this year that were unique and dealt with some taboo topics. If there were 2 categories for BP as there are at the Golden Globes, then Dreamgirls would have been nominated in its category.
 
I wish Kate Winslet would win, but I am rooting for Helen Mirren. Not only is she child-free (and proud of it!) but she has yet to win.
