Pairs FS Worldwide: The Divine Discipline

I do believe we have someone doing or trying a tripleloop individually but that is a far cry from a triple lutz.
In Junior Grand Prix, we have a Japanese team Murakami/Moriguchi who do triple Lutz. They are a new pair formed of two individual skaters who teamed up only this year so their pair elements are a bit simple but no problem with 3Lz and they have more than 3 years till OG to develop their pair elements.

It will be very interesting to watch how long it will take for such a fresh pair to upgrade their throws and twists. If this pair will do well and as a result teaming up individual skaters will become a trend in Japan... maybe picked up by Korea, too... Oh Dear, there's some place to dream! How about triple Axels as side-by-side jumps by 2030?

Japan is likely to keep investing in 1 (one) pair to go for team event gold, but Koreans don’t have the depth even in men singles, so looking for leading men there is likely a moot point. Unless someone hires rebellious Nazarychev…

Korea has a lot of tall men, and maybe they need to start recruiting kids from short track speedskating to get a pairs program. Germany doesn't really have a lot of great singles skaters yet they manage to cobble together multiple pairs. I think that with the team event and success of all Japanese pairs (and ice dance), more Japanese men will try the discipline.

So far I see no signs of Korean men flocking to either pair or singles. Or lots of willing Korean women either, because not every woman who does singles can do pairs. And do they even have a coach? It’s not lie with ice dance where Montreal looks at overflow. It’s far more than sbs and insanely dangerous if not taught well. Japan so far created one successful pair team. That’s not exactly depth. I mean, Tanaka who at least looked good for it didn’t exactly volunteer. And most of Japanese male skaters seen on international level have smaller build.

Personally, I love both programs of Deanna Stellato-Dudek/Maxime Deschamps and excited to see the rise of Hocke/Kunkel!!
So impressed with Deanna Stellato-Dudek skating pairs at the age of 39. I remember her from her singles career and was disappointed when she chose to stop competing - although I appreciated and respected her decision to do what was right for her. So hopeful she'll get her timing down on the throws and has a successful and injury free pairs career.

Dropping this here... just because I am that nice :)

Proft-Nadeau's debut

Some great qualities, room for the doubles to turn into triples soon.

So good to see Nic skating in competition again.:hap10: I think he and Emma have adapted very well to pairs, and particularly elements that would be new for them, like lifts. They have impressive unison (although maybe I am looking with eyes that want to like them ;) )

i don't think you are wearing pink colored glasses :) their unison is great in the SBS jumps and the stroking and step sequence.. not so much on the SBS spin... and yes... very good level 4 reverse lasso lift. The twist, only double, but HUGE.
Maybe they are careful on the throw because Emma was or is injured (herniated disc)
We will see tomorrow what happens with the LP which is the real test.. with 3 lifts, 2 SBS jumps, and the 2 throws.

I've never seen the Kovalevs before and I was pretty impressed especially with their short program at GP France. Wild costumes too! Well-earned silver.

I really enjoyed the pairs competition at the French GP even if the level at the North American GP's was a little higher. Even with a fall Deanna and Maxime are really something else. I love the concept of their Cleopatra Free Programme, while their SP is also great to watch (especially when it's done well). It was good to see a French team on the rise, I think Camille and Pavel Kovalev have improved so much since last season. And Annika Hocke and Robert Kunkel are really back on track..after their not so good season last year and some injuries and illnesses it must be a real boost for them to get a medal and to be among the pairs with a lot of promise again!

I will not cross post but those who want to see Pereira and Michaud's LP from Ontario Sectionals... it's been posted on the Canadian thread.

Strong elements especially SBS jumps with 3t-2t + 2a and 3s A twist (triple) at level 2... all the other elements at level 4.. The throws are double for now.

Pairs are is the only discipline which is missing something, because there have been no Chinese or Russians, have any Chinese pair competed internationally at all? I cannot remember all competitions. Pairs is my favourite.

I put this to team Finland fan fest, but probably most of you don't read it, so I put here. Milania and Filippo skated at their first competition in Finland's qualification competition for nationals. I found a video by accident. IMO also it is much better than Milania with Mikhail A. before.

IMO they did good job. FS is still to come today evening local time. Double twist, the first lift and the spin got -1 points, They are still slow and got -1 time violation. I think there is a little bit national addition, but their got 50.30. Otherwise I was impressed. Especially the side by side 3T was world class.

Alexa Knierim & Brandon Frazier spoke to Tatjana Flade after MK John Wilson Trophy:

I love A&B's straightforward honesty and thoughtful reflections. Flade is an excellent interviewer as well.

Brandon and Alexa are both good people, and it's great to hear from them! There are some revealing insights. I love how Brandon responds toward the end to the question about how their World championship influences the U.S discipline. Brandon points out what I have said so often: the U.S. has some very good teams contrary to the tendency for negative perceptions about U.S. pairs. Such negativity really needs to cease. The U.S. has a strong legacy in pairs that's worthy of respect. And there are a number of good teams coming up who are capable of continuing to build depth and to be highly competitive internationally.

Here's Anything GOEs' interview with Spencer Howe and Emily Chan. It's lovely getting to know their personalities. This interview is also very honest and revealing. It helps me to be more aware of how skaters brave many challenges for love of the sport. 👍👏
