Pair's Short Program

In the last group, the young british showed their youth. Slow, imprecise, but nice kids and what a costume !!!
Pla Bonheur are tired. Falls, falls, falls. Promissing but tired right now.
Zhang Zhang    and they are first.
Hinzmann Parchem: nicely done. They're happy. 10th.

And the evening is over (It's 2 AM here :p ). Nice competition. The pairs don't seem too tired in this short program. I hope it will be the same for the long one.

The british couple did didn't they. The contrast between them being on the ice followed by the Zhangs was unbelievable. ONe thingi will say - they can skate very fast just not incompetition. Seeing them skate live at the British nationals - they tend to start the program fast and slow down all the way through and they really are crawling very slowly into the throw triple loop. I can't believe her overrotated the double loop. I wonder if they've been working thr triple and its thrown him. They can both land double axles but apparently not well enough in unisons to put them into a program yet which really hurts them.

Well I say we've got a competition! Only about 4.5 points separating 1st from 6th, with two Asian teams, two Euro teams, and two North American teams among those six--granted the two Chinese teams are 1 and 2.

I confess to some boosterism for the Canadians MARCOUX / BUNTIN (4th), but I do like their skating as well.

Still the pair I'm most excited about is Germany's SAVCHENKO / SZOLKOWY (5th). Maybe it's because I haven't seen them skate that much and I'm still seeing their strong points without seeing much of their weaknesses. It's just the way I tend to see most skaters early on--the good stuff first and later on the "Oh, bummer" stuff.

Much as I like that PETROVA / TIKHONOV have not only hung in there but have also improved, I'd love to see the ZHANGS win gold. Not that the Russian teams haven't deserved it, but the Soviets/Russians have practically been glued to the top of the Worlds podium in pairs for decades.

I hope SAVCHENKO / SZOLKOWY have a great LP just because they're the only really athletic team among the top pairs. Plus they have gorgeous line and, IMO, the best transitions.

I don't anticipate an upset, but 4.5 points is one fall on a jump or throw (or thereabouts). Could be interesting. Or the SP order might not change at all after the final, lol.
