Pang and Tong: Taking time to make things right

Chinese figure skaters Pang Qing and Tong Jian have significantly reduced their number of competitions this season as they concentrate on perfecting new routines.

Chinese Winter Sports authority has recently said that Pang/Tong is still the leading Chinese Pair. They are taking a rest but it is a mental rest to release the pressure while they keep on training. This should help with their competition in Sochi. Pang/Tong, the Zhangs, and Sui/Han are most likely to represent China in Sochi Olympics. As I reported before, P/T were competing too much last year because S/Z had retired and Z/Z were sidelined with his injury so the burden fell on P/T to carry the Chinese Pairs torch. They regreted not having enough training to polish their programs last year.

They are also excited about Song's medal at COC, making it possible for him to get new programs choreographed by a top choreographer and it is promised that he will go overseas for the choreogrpahy.

Of course they still are. With Shen & Zhou gone they are the only Chinese pair able to compete with the top Germans and Russians. The Zhangs never will be able to again, and Sui & Han wont be able to for another several years anyway. Once P&T return they will easily step back into the role of China's #1 team.
