I agree with Kunstrijdster here, I think Plush marks were ok , actually better than ok for his first international event and if they were lower the better, so that he would work on his weaknesses and doesn't get any surprises later! Final marks were a little high in pcs (i m not talking about the 9 in interpretation, please)but I give it to the euphoria of his comeback and the fact that he was the only one who tried a successful quad, after 3 years of absence he was competitive and he totally sold whatever he did these two days. But high or not, somehow judges gave him the hint to work on his pcs, which I hope he does.

My remarks were not meant to pick a fight - as I am a Plushy fan and a Mao fan.
I think they are both fabulous skaters - but I still think their respective marks should not be based on reputation - and only hope to see fair and unbiased scoring for them and the skaters they are competing against.

I'm not picking a fight, either. I don't know how to achieve fair and unbiased scoring for different skaters, particularly the top ones, when they are competing against each other. Let's take Shen/Zhao at COC for example, were their skates really that good for the high marks they got at the competition? SP over 72 points, over 66 points for their LP PCS, just way too much！Since they have a very large number of followers worldwide, nearly every poster here is singing high praise for their memorable performances, repeating the same compliments again and again, and those with different opinions can say nothing about it. What a pity.

Because you love this skater, he/she will be always considered great no matter what. If he/she lost the competition, you would very likely complain about the fairness of the game.

A competition is nothing but a game played by different people.

I agree - and in an ideal world, this same should apply to ALL skaters especially in the Olympic season. Each skater in any discipline should start, in the judges eyes, and for that matter the fans eyes too, with a clean slate based on where they are THIS season at the competition in question.

Of course we all know it's not an ideal world but . . . from your mouth to judges ears! Let's start a petition -

Sounds delectable. Europe might not have the best skaters, but the real eye candy of figure skating is definitely here. Lambiel looks hotter than ever, Joubert is a certified hottie anyway, Contesti is not bad either, Ponsero looked incredible in the looks department at CoC (the skating - not so much), there is also the Belgian Justin Timberlake on ice, Berntsson, Verner... And don't forget the Russian hunks, Smirnov, Trankov and Shabalin. Then there is Bourzat, Szolkowy, Bonheur...

Ha, ha - so I hope it is OK for me to enjoy how charming Mirai and Akiko looked last weekend at COC? And to be open minded and fair I could mention Kiira - but am sure she already has enough fans (and Laura is my favorite European Lady ).

Wait, you are describing people with 2 X-chromosomes there - so I don't really care that much. I can recognise female beauty of course, but it doesn't really grip me. I always found male beauty much more interesting.

But feel free to add to your list, as far as female beauties go, I think there are lots of beautiful skaters in Asia, Europe and America alike. They are evenly distributed.

... I find it amusing that some people complain about his lack of choreography and transitions. There are skaters that have choreography and transitions but they can't land the jumps. Why don't we hear complaints about those? - It's because they don't win, and they can't without landing the jumps...

... IMHO, choreography and transitions are the things too subjective and obscure, which are viewed from different angles by different judges. Nobody knows what they really mean, actually.

Here is much debate about what is most questionable - score for artistry, which are very subjective .... easiest way to defend own subjective opinion is the debate on the subject in which the rules are not firmly based

Just now I watched Plushenko's gala show at RC on his official website. Wow, such a beauty on ice. It deeply touches my heart and soul, and brings me back to the 2005 COR Exhibitions at the same time, in which he skated to the same piece.

It's really like Yesterday Once More. In my eyes, he is simply the best male skater in the world!:thumbsup:

While I personally do not think he's the best skater in the world, I'm glad for you that you are moved by his performances so deeply. I've had that feeling frequently with my best skater and it's one every skating fan should feel at least once in their life.
