Plushenko will honour us with his presence in 2010!

weeeeeeee! You saw it too?:biggrin:My heart had moved on the right until the end!Thank god for the goalkeeper we got!

Thank you Medusa, Thank you King Otto!

3 sport wishes for this year, now one more wish left;)

I am so happy for you! And Greece! And King Otto. I was afraid this would be the end of him and he would get fired. I am also so happy for Algeria.

The rest of the evening is not going well though. France looks in danger, the Russians are self-destroying  At least Portugal is doing well.

Ah France, I'm rooting for my Irish underdog friends

but they are still playing, I sense an overtime conspiracy

I thought it was penalties after home and away leg, now extra time could give the home side more advantage (not that they have taken it so far)

Russian are out of the world cup after initially doing so well in the qualifiers

The French will most likely win this as I don't expect the Irish to be that well trained when it comes to either penality shooting or extra time stamina

it seems you are wright, French score (on a handball - another hand of god)... Blatter will be happy

wasnt russia playing today with slovenia?what happened?
oh plushy will be very upset!
but i was not rooting for russia in football jamais
And King Otto. I was afraid this would be the end of him and he would get fired.
Otto would never be fired. The relationship has been in up and downs with greek federation especially after 2006 words but he renewed his contract until 2010. Greek fans love him so much. In Greece they call him the Rehakles.

hmm ..B do you remember when i told you , do not ask plushyta for pics?
Voila, you opened the pandora's box:laugh:

I was rooting for Russia because they have got exceptional football players, their game is exciting, fast-paced, technically they are among the top teams in Europe, maybe in the entire World.

Just like it is in Figure Skating, I have logical and sentimental favourites in football. Russia is a logical favourite of mine, they are just excellent when they are on. Just like Kozuka is a logical favourite of mine. On the other hand, a team like Greece, who don't play exceptional football, is a sentimental favourite, just like Préaubert or Kavaguti/Smirnov are my sentimental favourites in figure skating.

I hate that France qualified because of an evil goal. But they are through... I just would have preferred them to qualify because of their superior abilities, and not some cheated goal.

I am glad that nobody wants to fire Rehagel. He was a legend in Germany, long before he went to coach Greece.

nice post:)
I have to admit i was never rooting for russia cause frequently we ve been in same group in the past and they have kicked our butt multiple times;)Rightfully so.
I knew Rehaggel since he was in Bremen and Bayern M. He is a legend in Greece also. One of the most popular faces. I love his interviews. When he first came to greece he had a very difficult task, to persuade all to change their way and unite a team that was scattered between scandals and lazyness. And to trust the new talents. He managed to give rebirth to a dead national team and put discipline in greeks that are not famous for that. I also love how expressive he is and he has learnt to celebrate like a Greek, fingers, fists and all!:biggrin:Maybe I change the banner for today. Sorry Plush.

Do that! A football banner, just for a day!

Back when Greece became European Champion I lived in France. The frontpage of the L'Équipe from the day after final is still hanging in my room. It's such a precious memory of mine.

What I remember Rehagel most for, is this:
The Red Devils came storming back in 1998 with an accomplishment unique in Bundesliga history by winning re-promotion to the first division from the 2.Bundesliga and immediately going on to win the national championship under famous coach Otto Rehhagel.
The 1. FC Kaiserslautern was new in the first division and won the National Championship the same season. That was incredible.

When Greece played the final in 2004 I had a rehearsal of Oly volunteers in Olympic stadium and we were watching the match from screens there but of course nobody did what they had to do. I remember nothing of the final minutes cause I had burst crying on the grass. The complete underdogs of Euros had taken the goblet. It was like a dream:party2:

Just in case someone needs a new banner:
I'm developing a mullet fetish

:rofl::rofl::rofl:
don't tempt me to fill the blank!

What prophetic words K

The "poor Irish" and shame on Henry :o:mad:

As if letting his handball(s) go (the linesman was right there to see it) wasn't a disgraceful enough example of cheating, today this headline is making more bad news for the Euro sporting scene.

http://sports.yahoo.com/soccer/news?slug=ap-germany-corruption&prov=ap&type=lgns

I wish there was less cheating and favoritism throughout the sporting world - and yes, that includes North America, Asia, and Africa too. But unfortunately it seems to be that when money is on the line it is universally accepted that "cheating" can be OK.

Yet another sad day for the "beautiful game."

The Irish are asking for a repeat of the game. I totally support that. I mean, Henry himself said that he cheated. What more proof does FIFA need?

 This thread takes off in so many directions that it makes me head spin something terrible, but apparently we're discussing soccer now...?

The world just isn't spinning in my direction, which makes me queasy - I blame the glasses of wine. :scowl:
