Plushenko will honour us with his presence in 2010!

ahem...and almost smashed my hand from pressure, you forgot that?:p
Why do you think I stayed a little seats more far now at european championship?
I almost done this to you???
I do not remember the details  ... it just shows, how much I was lost then in space and time

One of my all-time favorite programs of Evgeni is Once Upon A Time in America, seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywkMDHkeOZs

Eighteen years old, and he blows the field away with the first ever 4T/3T/2R! Loved Peter Carruthers & Terry Gannon's comments. And he had the crowd clapping along with him on his journey through America, and standing before the end of the program.

Total confidence, total command of the performance, nary a hair out of place. One-of-a-kind. Evgeni The Great. No more need be said, except to say that he is even better at 27 years of age. Only he gets better as he ages, just like a fine wine, only gets better with time...

Wait. Once upon a time in America mixed with Johnny Weir's SP music!! lol :p

Quite "old" TV news (from 22.01., after victory on Euros ) ... but here have few interesting statements ;)

Russian figure skater Evgeni Plushenko won gold at the European Championship in Tallinn

After the cascade of perfectly executed high jumps, Evgeni Plushenko allows himself to send air kiss to the judges. His "Tango Amor" fans from around the world welcome with standing applause.

Though not yet come out on the ice twice world champion, Swiss Stephane Lambiel, they are sure: this was performance of winner.

Evgeni Plushenko: "I'm happy for myself, that after such a long pause not competing in amateur sports, I can still compete with the masters of figure skating. It is a thousand times more pleasant, that I even managed to win them."

Plushenko was the confident leader after the short program. One of his main rivals, the Frenchman Brian Joubert, to beat our athletes has promised to do two quad jumps, but failed to skate his program clean. As a result - only "bronze".

Brian Joubert: "Plushenko skated beautifully, he is, undoubtedly - the champion of Europe, and perhaps future Olympic champion. This is a worthy opponent."

Stefan Lambiel, who is like Plushenko this year back on the ice after a great long program has moved from fifth to second place.

Stephane Lambiel: "I am not very satisfied with my performance here, but what to do - now I will fight for Olympic gold.

At night, the press room at the Ice Palace Saku Suurhal is overcrowded. Dozens of journalists from different countries was in a hurry to tell of the victory of figure skater, who proved: even after a big break in Europe, surely it is - still the best.

A champion not wait to at least temporarily escape from the reporters, to share the joy because victory with his wife.

One of the first congratulated to Plushenko's and violinist Edvin Marton. Skater was under his music, and became a champion.

Edvin Marton, musician: "Evgeni - he is not only a genius. This once born. I mean, he goes where on the ice, and hear the music, not just skate. He created this music, because he came into the studio and showed me movement."

Olympic gold medalist, three-time world champion, and now six-time European champion, does not hide his main goal - a medal in Vancouver. That is why Plushenko is back in the amateur sports.

Evgeni Plushenko: "Nobody expects my return, so I had to work very hard. I perfectly understand, that after Europe all my rivals will work more, and I need to work doubly more."

Alexei Mishin, coach of Evgeni Plushenko: "He is a fighter, on the one hand, and the artist - on the other. And this a combination fighter with an artist - this is thing, with wich he won the hearts many millions of fans."

Thank you for the article and translation, Plushyta! No doubt that Plushenko was the winner. Any other kind of result would be not right.

Brian Joubert: "Plushenko skated beautifully, he is, undoubtedly - the champion of Europe, and perhaps future Olympic champion. This is a worthy opponent."
:love::love::love: My two favorites!

Thanks for posting that latest article on Evgeni, seniorita. :)

Hmmm, I smell an anti-European thing going on here, seriously. The reporter's entire article was pro North America, anti Europe. :disagree:

I especially did not enjoy reading Canadian Brian Orser's comments, nor his Canadian compatriot Jeffrey Buttle.

Where is the objectivity in this article, pray tell? Let's have some comments & opinions from the other side, shall we? It is only fair. I mean it being a given the reporter wants to present an unbiased article? Hmmm, then again, I think not. *wink*

Also, I disagree with her premise that 6.0 allowed skaters to stumble & still win. NOT. That's what COP does (e.g. one can build up a huge lead in the SP, then stumble & fall during the LP & still win; that wasn't the case with 6.0). Anyhow, that's my take, and I'm sticking with it. *smile*

Back to Evgeni, what more need be said, he's simply one of the greatest skaters of all-time, in the likes of Dick Button, Sonja Henie, Katarina Witt, Gillis Grafstrom....

:clap:GOOOOOOOOOOOO EVGENI!!!!

Agree with you there. It's like when they still had figures, except it's now the SP (and people know about it). :ohwell:

Oh to get away a little from Oly drama!!!!

A great great interview of evgeni before the Olympics, funny and nice questions for a change, he did even a quiz. ( he needs to revise, i think he was not sure how many points the quad is marked). Was the Pacific Coloseum the arena of Worlds 2001??He thinks so, lol!

speaks about his childhood, hobbies, his dreams, vancouver expectations, which two people think as real friends in figure skating, a funny text message with Verner at New Year, joining a competitive team of paintball, happy interview in general!

All interview is cute, just some parts translated thanx to Ximena

"Figure skating is one of the most complicated kind of sports. In order to win gold, many things has to converge. What if your skate fell into a hole, what if you do less and you lose, what if your rivals perform so wonderfully that everyone end up with their mouths open from it? And one millions more "what if". Of course I want to get a good result, do a good skate but what will come out from it, I don't know. .

"Do you have any idea how good Brian Joubert looked at trainings? He did quadruples with so much ease! But he made mistakes at the competition from the first quad on, he couldn't cope with his nerves, thought he was ready, he was perfect".

"In December I used to do seven to eight quads on trainings, now I only do two. The ligaments on my knee are not in their best condition, the problem is that you can't prepare well for Vancoucer like that. First because a quad without proper training does not happen as easy as, for example, a triple axel. And second of all because I want to go back to do two quadruples on the free skate".

Evgeni Plushenko talked about his injuries that seems to, literally, follow him around. "It all began during the summer when I started training, I did a triple axel, landed it my whole foot and ended up with an hernia the size of a walnut and it was punctured. It hurt terribly what what could I do? I stopped training for three days and then went back to the ice. Then it was my knee, then my back, I tried a Chinese method to relieve the pain but it didn't help. They could only give me shots. At the Russian championships I skated in pain but here I feel almost healthy! It's such a great feeling!"

The Olympic champion of 2006 also remembered from his childhood when he was just starting to skate. "To be honest, I hated school, though I was one of the top students during the 6th grade. Thanks to my sister by the way, it was like meat and drink to her, so I learn to write and read from her".

"I remember my firts skates "Snowflakes", they are the kind that you have to put on the boots for snow, then I went to a store with my mum and she met a friend whose daughter trained and she started screaming 'I don't want to go to skate!' So she gave me the skates. And until I was 7 I skated with white skates".

"And then there was a problem with my coach Mikhail Makoveyev, God rest his soul, he gave me new boots that were more stiff and I couldn't jump at all! And my coaches forced me to, he even started cursing, so I jumped and I started bleeding from my feet, I took my skates off, put them on the table and told him 'I won't do this anymore' I didn't go for a week to train although my coach came to me two days later to apologise. I almost stop skating then, there's been three or four times that I almost stop, but....so far here I am, still skating".

I actually think this was a pretty fair article. What was wrong with Orser's and Buttle's comments?

i liked the article very much and i like how brian orser talks in general, it is nice to hear from skaters their remarks:) And buttle has talked nice about evgeni always with the best highlight quote for me in previous Olympics.

And i liked for a change orser speaks more wise than most articles and doesnt favorite Plushy for win cause this has started to freaking me out a bit :o

Yeah. Plushenko is praised for his skills. Lambiel is deemed the favourite for a medal. Points out Joubert had an eratic season. Dismissive of Verner. Nadine, can you explain what bothered you about Orser and Buttle's comments, because if this anti-Europe, pro-Europe would be something to see (and probably X-rated).

The only comment that might be construed as "anti-Europe" is: "But the further he gets away from Russia, the closer the scores get to where they should be.'' And that's not anti-Europe. Or anti-Plushenko even. In fact, let's replace that with Chan/Canada, and you tell me if that's "anti-Canada"

"But the further [Chan] gets away from Canada, the closer the scores get to where they should be.''

What I see, he broke the world record for the SP, as soon as he go away from Russia

Katarina Witt abou Plushy :)

http://in.news.yahoo.com/137/20100208/375/tsp-don-t-compare-new-crop-to-us-says-sk.html

... As the last female skater to achieve the feat, Witt knows what it takes and was sure he was made of strong enough stuff.

"I don't think he needs any advice. He's a great competitor. He's just skated great in Tallinn at the Europeans," she said.

"He's a tough competitor and knows exactly what to do. When he goes out there he's focussed."....

Henderson: Check out these must-see Olympic sights

Good luck to aaaaaaaaall athletes and I hope we will all enjoy Olys, a big hug and good luck kiss to Plushy(*have fun Plushy*), I ll have a shot of vodka for Evgeni too:)

Nadine, dont buy Plush anything expensive, he doesnt need it, buy him a fluffy animal with a cute message! ...Or you can throw me on the ice:o
Seniorita, thanks for the laugh....I think that would be such a hoot if that really happened.

ugg i m still stuck in here, with barely two hours sleep, snow here and strike in greece. It sounds like a joke! And from all the bad things happening for me this week I will also miss the birthday of my mum :frown: I still hope i m be on time and can watch the ceremony of Olys in my home sweet hoooooome!

Dee I know, it would be fun, I would be thrown on ice and tell Plushy "do your hip thrust transitions more convincingly, Mr Judge is watching you";)

Go Evgeni!:)

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
Seniorita, transitions = great choreo and great entertainment, didn't u know? Just ask Mr. Know it all..
I'm sorry to hear your hopeless situation with the flights, birthdays and the other issue, I think it'll be sorted out soon.. What goes down must come up eventually.. (Im trying to tell myself the same amidst all this craziness, keep positive, keep positive..)

I v done my homework. Gkelly said that hip thrusts are also transitions :) , just not difficult ones, especially if you are skating on two feet or standing still.

So my take, i d propose to plushy to do them while skating in speed and before the quad. That would be some improvement. :p

Love ya plushy, transition-less and all, have fun in Vancouver!
