+3 / -3 Grade Of Execution System

The Personal Best and Season Best scores that the ISU uses for a skater only take into consideration certain competitions. For example, they do not take into consideration domestic competitions, such as Sectional, Regional or National Championships.

The table below takes into consideration all the events that the skater has taken part in. These scores are referred to as “Absolute Personal Best” and “Absolute Season’s Best” so as to distinguish them from the scores recorded by the ISU.

Absolute Personal Best Score
Absolute Season’s Best Score

The Absolute designations are based purely on the contents of the Competitive History table in this post. If anybody knows of any scores that are not in the table, please let us know, and we will be only too happy to add them in.

The Entries/Results Page is up for the Riga Cup.

Unfortunately, Nikita Vitryanyuk is not in the starting order for the Men's SP. So, it looks like he has withdrawn. :disapp:

HOWEVER, Polina Ustinova will be the final skater in Group 3 of the Ladies SP. She will be the 15th of the 32 skaters to start.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST POLINA!!!! :cheer:

Just a wee reminder that the Ladies SP for the Riga Cup starts in 20 minutes.

Polina Ustinova will be the final skater in Group 3. She is due to start at 12:33:10 local time, which incidentally is the same time in Cyprus AND in Moscow.

For those in Yekaterinburg, her start time will be 14:33:10.

But that may change if any of the skaters on before her withdraw.

Polina had a fall, but still managed to score 26.12. That is considerably more than her previous Personal Best SP at an ISU competition, 17.16 scored a year ago at the Ljubljana Cup. It is also just shy of her International Personal Best SP, 26.50 scored in April at the Triglav Cup.

Polina will be the third to start in tomorrow's Free Programme.

More details about her start time and the livestream will be posted tomorrow morning.

Apologies for posting this so late. I only got a chance to watch the Ladies FS this morning.

Polina Ustinova finished 30th in Friday's Free Skate at the Riga Cup.

2015 Riga Cup Ladies Free Skate Results

Despite this, she slipped one place from where she was after the SP, and finished 32nd overall at the Riga Cup.

2015 Riga Cup Ladies Results

Polina was the final skater to go onto the ice for the Group 1 Warm-Up. Unfortunately, because it was the first group, there were a lot of graphics being shown as the housekeeping was being done. This meant that we didn't get to see as much of this group as we did the later groups. But we still managed to see some of Polina. And, due to the costume she was wearing for her FS, she was VERY easy to spot!

Here is the direct link to the start of the Warm-Up, within the video of the whole Ladies FS competition:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCPpkUu7QP8&t=971

And here is the direct link to Polina's performance, again within the video of the whole Ladies FS competition:

Finally, here is the video just showing Polina's SP (unfortunately, it doesn't show her getting her results):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pavVP_cIlG4

Unfortunately, Polina had 2 falls during the Free Skate. (She very nearly had a third as well, but managed to rescue it!) She also did the whole of her final combination after the music had finished. The result was that she got 3 deductions.

Despite these, Polina still managed to score 43.27. This totally obliterated her previous Personal Best FS at an ISU competition, 29.78 scored a year ago at the Ljubljana Cup. However, it is still just over 11 points lower than her International Personal Best FS, 54.60 scored in March at the World Development Trophy in Poland.

In addition, her overall score of 69.39 is just shy of 23 points higher than her previous Personal Best overall score at an ISU competition, 46.94 scored a year ago at the Ljubljana Cup. However, it is just over 11 points lower than her International Personal Best FS, 80.56 scored in March at the World Development Trophy in Poland.

Although Polina finished bottom of the field overall at a Junior Grand Prix for a second time, she can take a LOT of positives from the Riga Cup.

  1. In Ljubljana, Polina was at the bottom of the field in both segments. In Riga, she was not at the bottom of the field in either segment.

  2. In each of the segments as well as overall, Polina's scores in Riga were very close to the girl directly above her, whereas there was a big difference in Ljubljana.

  3. In Riga, all of Polina’s scores were considerably better than they were in Ljubljana.

  4. As a result, all of Polina’s ISU Personal Best Scores are now considerably higher than they were before Riga.

  5. Polina came extremely close to matching her International Personal Best Score in the Short Programme at Riga.

:cheer: WELL DONE POLINA!!! :cheer:

I have to be honest, this is not the best I have seen Polina skate. She was better in Riga. She didn't fall, but her hand was down on quite a few of her elements. In the end, she scored 24.51.

Polina will be the final skater to start in Group 1 of this afternoon's Free Skate. She is due to start at 17:05:10 local time, which is 18:05:10 in Cyprus AND in Moscow.

Polina Ustinova finished 31st out of 33 in yesterday's Free Skate at the Copernicus Stars.

2015 Copernicus Stars Ladies Free Skate Results

This meant that she maintained her 31st position in the overall results!

2015 Copernicus Stars Ladies Results

As in Riga, Polina was the final skater to go onto the ice for the Group 1 Warm-Up. Unfortunately, because it was the first group, there were a lot of graphics being shown as the housekeeping was being done. Polina's Free Skate was pretty good! Although she did have a fall (unlike during her Short Programme), it was nevertheless a LOT better than her Short Programme. In fact, I would say it is the best I've seen her skate!

Bearing this in mind, it is perhaps unsurprising that Polina achieved a new ISU Personal Best score for a Free Skate. She scored 48.51 in Toruń, which is just over 5 points higher than her previous best of 43.27 from the Riga Cup a few weeks ago. More importantly, it is edging ever closer to her International Personal Best FS, which was also achieved in Poland (54.60, scored in March at the World Development Trophy in Gdańsk).

That Free Skate score also meant that she set a new Personal Best overall score for an ISU competition. Her score of 73.02 is just shy of 4 points higher than her previous best of 69.39 from the Riga Cup a few weeks ago. However, her lower score in the SP this week meant that she is still 7 points away from her International Personal Best FS, which, again, was also achieved in Poland (80.56 scored in March at the World Development Trophy in Gdańsk).

The big thing to take from this competition was that, for the first time in her Junior Grand Prix career, Polina did not finish at the bottom of the field. She had 2 skaters behind her in each segment, and overall. (It was the same 2 skaters, but they swapped positions in each segment).

All in all, Polina has improved at each Junior Grand Prix she has competed in. And as she gets more international experience under her belt, I can see her continuing this trend.

However, I do feel that what Polina needs most is to get more time on the full-size rinks. Because, with more space, she will be able to work on:

  1. building up her speed
  2. building up the heights of her jumps.

These are the 2 things that are holding Polina back from making a big jump up the order. And unfortunately, you can't work on improving these on a small rink in a shopping centre, as you are constantly worrying about hitting the boards.

But in the meantime, let's just concentrate on the huge strides that Polina has made since she made her Junior Grand Prix debut just 13 months ago in Ljubljana!

:cheer: WELL DONE POLINA!!! :cheer:

I was just looking through the entries for today's Sarajevo Open, and noticed that Polina Ustinova is competing in Junior Ladies and Daniella Ipsarides is competing in Advanced Novice Ladies.

Entries/ Results Page:
http://www.ksbih.ba/SO2016/index.htm

EDIT: There is a Livestream, but the quality leaves a LOT to be desired:

http://ski.ba/#!/extra-streams/Zetra

Polina will be the second to start the SP in her category, which starts at 12:05 CET (11:05 GMT).

Daniella is the 11th to start the SP in her category, which is actually second in the final group (Group 3). It started at 08:00 CET (07:00 GMT), so is actually over now. :slink:

Just wanted to update you on how Daniella Ipsarides and Polina Ustinova got on in Sarajevo.

Unfortunately, Daniella has been very sick for the past 2 weeks. She has been bedridden with a high fever. So, although she did take part in the Advanced Novice Ladies competition (her first of the season), she was not able to perform to her usual standard.

Daniella finished 12th in each segment, and 12th overall. But, considering how sick she has been, she did VERY well.

2016 Sarajevo Open Advanced Novice Ladies SP: Results; Protocols
2016 Sarajevo Open Advanced Novice Ladies FS: Results; Protocols
2016 Sarajevo Open Advanced Novice Ladies: Overall Results

In the SP, she got a half-point deduction for a fall. Now, this was very unfortunate, as half a point was exactly the distance she was behind Croatian skater Iva GLIGORA at the end of the SP. Iva had a fall in the FS to balance things up on that count.

Daniella was definitely the skater that suffered most by having both segments held on the same day. She was in the final group to skate in the SP, and the first skater to go in the FS. This would have been tough for somebody who was fully healthy, never mind somebody in Daniella’s position. She did put up a valiant fight, but Iva did enough in the FS to hold onto the position.

On the plus side, Daniella did get to meet Liza:

In Junior Ladies, Polina also had consistent placings. She was 6th in each segment, and 6th overall.

2016 Sarajevo Open Junior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols
2016 Sarajevo Open Junior Ladies FS: Results; Protocols
2016 Sarajevo Open Junior Ladies: Overall Results

For the whole competition, Polina was in a fight with Croatian skater Valentina MIKAC over 6th and 7th positions. After the SP, there was only 1.36 points between them. Polina was unfortunate to be the first to skate in the FS, and she had a fall. But, when Valentina came on, she had a fall too. So, it balanced things up, and Polina finished ahead of her in the FS by 1.12 points.

So, all the best to the girls in their next competition.

Next competition for Daniella Ipsarides was Sofia Trophy in Bulgaria, results here:

Thank you so much, Liud.  :points:

I had seen photos of Daniella from the Sofia Trophy, but could not find her in the results. But now I know why - I was looking at the Entries / Results Page for the ISU competition, not realising that there was a separate Entries / Results Page for the younger levels. :palmf:

Curious how she was competing at Basic Novice Level at this competition when she normally competes at Advanced Novice. :scratch2: Must have stricter rules on ages in Bulgaria.

Bearing in mind that this was only a few days after the Sarajevo Open, and so she was still not fully healthy, Daniella finished 7th. BUT, she had no falls and was just 2.5 points behind the girl in 5th.

There were actually lots of girls representing Cyprus that I had never come across before competing in the even younger age levels. Including one girl with a very Irish name! (Must be an ex-pat). So, I will have to keep an eye out for her and the other girls in the future.

All the non-ISU results from the Sofia Trophy can be found here:

http://clubdenkovastaviski.com/SofiaTrophy/SofiaTrophy-2016/NonISU/index.htm

And next competition for Polina Ustinova was Olympic Hopes in Brasov, results here:

Mmmm. So Polina U had a fall in each segment. But, she still finished 2nd in the SP and 4th in the FS, which meant she won the silver medal!!! :cheer:

And I just spotted that Giorgia Isabella Secchi was also competing in the Junior competition. She finished 6th in the SP and 7th in the FS, which meant she finished 7th overall. Giorgia had one fall, in the FS.

Also, given that she is half Romanian, I am not surprised to see that Danae Hadjimitsi was also competing in Brasov, in the Advanced Novice competition. She was 2nd in each segment, and so won the silver medal. :cheer: She had 1 point of deductions for falls.

All the results from the Olympic Hopes can be found here:

:cheer: WELL DONE TO EVERYBODY, AT BOTH EVENTS!!! :cheer:

Well, maybe we could have some more talk about music videos. ;)

Here is yet another roof ladder pic:

Anna climbing up ladder to Kristina

Shortly after my last post, Kristina and Anna travelled to Verona:

Not sure where this next photo was taken. The photo is tagged as Orenburg, but I don't know if it was taken there, or if it was just where Anna was when she uploaded it.

And this one (from Kristina's vKontakte) was not tagged:

I could link to lots more photos on Kristina's vKontakte. But, enough of the photos. Here is the finished video:

Unfortunately, skating in her home country did not provide the boost I was hoping it would for Polina Ustinova. :disapp:

Polina finished 27th out of 28 in the Ladies SP at the Cup Of Mordovia yesterday, with a score of 21.41.

Video (just Polina): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENQ3Maa5dkg

But, there are 6 skaters that are less than 6 points ahead of her, so if she puts in a good Free Skate, she could move up considerably.

The Ladies FS is due to start at 13:45:00 MSK / EEST (11:45:00 BST / 10:45:00 GMT). So, about three hours from now.

Polina will be skater that kicks off the competition. She is due to start at 13:51:30 MSK / EEST (11:51:30 BST / 10:51:30 GMT).

Well, Polina Ustinova's Free Skate did mean she climbed up from her 27th after the Short Programme.

Polina finished 26th out of 28 in the Ladies FS at the Cup Of Mordovia, with a score of 36.90.

Free Skate Results: http://www.isuresults.com/results/season1617/jgprus2016/SEG004.HTM
Video (whole competition): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suTIpguUFUc

This meant that she finished 26th overall, with a total score of 58.31.

Meanwhile, Daniella Vanessa Ipsarides will be making her Junior Grand Prix debut today at the Ljubljana Cup.

Hence my new avatar of her with Liza Tuktamysheva:

Full-sized version

The photo was taken when they both competed in the Sarajevo Open in February 2016.

And, here is some Fan Art that I made to mark the occasion:

The Ladies FS is due to start at 14:15:00 CEST (13:15:00 BST / 12:15:00 GMT). So, about 1 hour 45 mintues from now.

OK. Time for some skating updates.

It has been a busy start to 2017 for the Cypriot skaters.

(Apologies in advance if I have missed any competitions that have had Cypriot skaters attending. Feel free to correct me!)

EDU Sport Trophy: 04–07 January 2017

At the start of January, Daniella Vanessa Ipsarides finished 8th in Junior Ladies at the EDU Sport Trophy in Romania. She was 6th in the SP and 8th in the FS. Since this was the first International competition at Junior level where she had completed both segments, all her scores were new International PB's.

Also at the EDU Sport Trophy, Laura Farran (who I have now found out does not have an Irish background, as I previously suspected from her name) finished 17th in the single segment Basic Novice A Girls competition.

Sofia Trophy: 08–12 February 2017

Last week, three of the Cypriot skaters were competing at the Sofia Trophy in Bulgaria.

In Junior Ladies, Polina Ustinova finished 31st overall: 29th in the SP and 30]th in the FS.

Eliana Kalogirou finished 34th in both segments, as well as overall.

Meanwhile, Andrea Loizides finished 12th in the single segment Cubs I. Girls (1.7.2006 - 30.6.2007) competition.

European Youth Olympic Festival: 13–15 February 2017

At the start of this week, Daniella became the first skater to represent Cyprus in the European Youth Olympic Festival, held in Turkey. (It's basically a Junior version of Europeans, but held within a multi-sport event). She was 21st in both segments, as well as overall.

I should add - as a lot of people were commenting in the event thread, the ice was terrible. So, between this and the high altitude, all the skaters were struggling. But, Daniella still managed to set new International PB's in all segments. So, fair play to her!

Olympic Hopes: 16–19 February 2017

The Olympic Hopes started yesterday in Romania. And there are a good number of Cypriot skaters entered.

Entries / Results Page

Junior Ladies: Polina Ustinova, Giorgia Isabella Secchi and Danae Hadjimitsi.
Basic Novice A Ladies: Laura Farran
Basic Novice B Ladies: Maria Eleni Loizides
Cubs Girls: Andrea Loizides

Daniella had been intending to compete here but, because she had to stay in Erzurum for the EYOF Closing Ceremony, she has been replaced by Polina.

The Cubs Girls FS was held yesterday (it was a single segment competition), and there is no sign of Andrea in the FS Results or the Protocols. Start Number #8 is missing, so I assume that was her and that she withdrew.

The Basic Novice A Girls FS is on at the moment. It was due to start at 10:00 CET (09:00 GMT), and Laura was the fourth to start. There is no Time Schedule or Live Scoring, so there is no way of knowing how things are going.

The Basic Novice B Girls FS starts at 15:22 CET (14:22 GMT), and Maria Eleni will be the 5th and final skater to start.

The Junior Ladies SP starts at 15:55 CET (14:55 GMT). Danae will be the skater that kicks off the competition. Giorgia will be the 5th skater to start, kicking off the second group, with Polina starting directly after her.

Olympic Hopes: 16–19 February 2017

Well, I bet Polina Ustinova is delighted she got a late call up for the Olympic Hopes in Romania. She finished 5th in Junior Ladies: 3rd in the SP and 5th in the FS.

In her first season in Juniors, and in her ancestral homeland, Danae Hadjimitsi was 8th in both segments, as well as overall.

Having missed most of last season through injury, Giorgia Isabella Sechi was 9th in both segments, as well as overall.

Meanwhile, Laura Farran finished 18th in the single segment Basic Novice A Girls competition.

And Maria Eleni Loizides finished 4th in the single segment Basic Novice B Girls competition.

And the Overall Results page for the Cubs Girls is now up, and it confirms that Andrea Loizides did indeed withdraw.

Overall, it was good to see so many of the team in action this week. Good preparation for Nationals next month.

:cheer: WELL DONE GIRLS!!! :cheer:
