But, there are 5 skaters that are less than 7 points ahead of her, so if she puts in a really good Free Skate, she could move up considerably.

Sorry, forgot to do this at the time.

Well, Polina did climb up from her 33rd position after the Short Programme!

Polina finished 31st out of 34 in the Ladies FS at the Croatia Cup, with a score of 46.97.

There was a gap in between the World Superbike coverage and the British Superbike coverage at the right moment, so I was able to dip in to see Polina Ustinova LIVE.

She had a fall at the start but, apart from that, I think that's the best that I personally have seen her skate.

And she showed us a really cute doll while waiting for the results! :)

It wasn't a PB score (whatever method of classification is used), but it was so much better than she did in her GP last season.

At the end of the first group, she was lying in 2nd position. So, she had already jumped ahead of Margrét Sól Torfadóttir. And she also went on to jump ahead of Patricia Skopančić, who was due to go in Group 2, but withdrew.

This meant that she finished 31st overall, with a total score of 69.90.

:cheer: WELL DONE POLINA!!! :cheer:

Haven’t posted in this thread so far in 2018. So, since Nationals were held at the weekend, now would be a good time to put that right. However, before we get to that, I should update you on how the Cypriot skaters prepared for them.

Jégvirág Cup: 16–18 February 2018

Two Cypriot skaters headed to Miskolc in Hungary in February for the Jégvirág Cup.

Giorgia Isabella Sechi was the only Cypriot competitor in Junior Ladies, where she finished 13th. She was 14th in the SP and 13th in the FS.

A number of skaters from the Leader Club headed to Kockelscheuer in Luxembourg in the middle of March for the Coupe du Printemps.

The important thing to take from Kockelscheuer is that Polina Ustinova made her debut in a Senior level competition here, finishing 15th. She was 16th in the SP and 15th in the FS.

Greek National Championships

Like she did 2 years ago, Daniella Ipsarides headed to Thessaloniki to take part in the Greek Championships as her preparation for the Cypriot Championships. And, like the last time, she won the Gold Medal.

I should warn you that I don’t know all the details about the Greek Championships yet. I have just seen photos of Daniella on the podium getting presented with her Medal and Trophy. And a lovely trophy it is too! ;)

:cheer: CONGRATULATIONS EVERYBODY!!! :cheer:

For information on how Nationals went, see the following thread in the Competition Forum:

https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?72527

There is something significant from Nationals that I feel should be highlighted here, though. The only person to have represented Cyprus internationally in Men’s skating, Nikita Vitranyuk, is now doing Ice Dance, where he is partnering Maria MILIYKOVA, a 12 year old from Moscow (fskate.ru Bio).

They were due to be guest competitors at the end of Nationals yesterday, but the Ice Dance page hasn't been updated. So I don't know if they did.

I hope they opt to represent Cyprus, as it would be great to see a new country competing in Ice Dance. And it would be nice to see Cyprus represented in another category, having only been represented in Singles up to now.

Last but not least, as this is St. George’s Day, I would also like to take this opportunity to wish a Happy 17th Birthday to Giorgia Isabella Sechi.

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

Having met her last year, I can say from personal experience that Giorgia is an absolutely lovely girl.

So, I want to send her all the best wishes from the bottom of my heart for this coming year.

OK, so a couple of important updates.

Firstly, today is the 20th birthday of the reigning Senior Ladies Champion, Polina Ustinova!!!

:cheer: С ДНЕМ РОЖДЕНИЯ ПОЛИНА!!! :cheer:

:cheer:   :party2: :hb: :points:

I hope you are having an enjoyable day, and that the next year is a good one for you, both on and off the ice!

I also hope that your twenties will be even better for you than your teenage years were! ;)

Secondly, we have had an update on this year’s Nationals.

Here what the statement on the CSF website says:

"Cyprus Skating Federation, after the Council Decision on the 03/04/2019, announces that Cyprus National Skating Championships will be held on the 18th – 19th of May 2019.

More information you can find in the announcement (link below) or contact your club representative in the Council.

Yours sincerely,
OC"

Thank goodness for that!

All the best to everybody who is taking part!

Just wanted to take this opportunity wish a Happy 21st Birthday to Polina Ustinova.

:cheer: С ДНЕМ РОЖДЕНИЯ, ПОЛИНА!!! :cheer:

:cheer:   :party2: :hb: :points:

Since it was a milestone birthday, I decided to make a Fan Video to mark it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM6LWmZo-vE

As I have explained before, all the videos I make use music that involves somebody from Northern Ireland. But, this time I actually chose somebody very local to me – Tony is from a town which is only 10 miles from my hometown. HOWEVER, he has been performing in Russia for around 25 years, and is actually now based in Moscow. So, I thought it would be an appropriate choice.

The lyrics may seem a bit odd at first, but I wanted to use a song where he sings in Russian.

Anyway, even though Cyprus is currently in lockdown, I hope Polina has an enjoyable day, and that the next year is a good one for her, both on and off the ice!

I hope you are having an enjoyable day, and that the coming year is a good one for you.

As you know from the post directly above this one, it was Polina's birthday last month. Here is a video she posted on TikTok thanking everybody that sent greetings:

https://www.tiktok.com/@polinaust/video/6817561542007983365

She has been posting there regularly over the past few months. Most of her videos are of her miming to snippets of songs or recordings. But about a week after her birthday, she posted this video about her skating career:

https://www.tiktok.com/@polinaust/video/6821188636348910853

I do hope that we will see her competing again sometime in the future.

Nationals were supposed to be held 2 weeks ago but, obviously, they didn't happen because Cyprus was in a strict lockdown at the time. The process of lifting the restrictions started the day after Nationals were due to finish, and the country is about to enter Phase 2.

Unfortunately, there have been no posts on the CSF website since January (before all this kicked off). So, I don't know whether Nationals were cancelled outright, or just postponed.

I'll let you know if and when I find out anything.

And now for the second half of our birthday double header!

I would like to wish a Happy 19th Birthday to Eliana Kalogirou.

:cheer: ΧΡΌΝΙΑ ΠΟΛΛΆ ΗΛΙΆΝΑ!!! :cheer:

I hope you are having an enjoyable day, and that the coming year is a good one for you.

Now for an update on Kristina Dubrovskaya.

The past year has been very busy for Kristina. Well, one particular week last July was anyway.

You know how I told you that she was studying at the University Of Surrey in England. Well, she graduated on Wednesday 17th:

Graduation photo

But the big news actually happened the day before her graduation, on Tuesday 16th:

SHE GOT MARRIED!!!

Wedding album 1
Wedding album 2
Photo of the dance
Wedding video

Her husband is also Russian, and is the co-founder of a technology company. With this in mind, it does seem strange that they got married in England. But they're both based in the British Isles, so it does actually make sense.

They went on their honeymoon on the Thursday 18th, and then it was Kristina's 22nd birthday on Sunday 21st.

I hope she got a chance to rest after all that! :drama:

Congratulations!!!

Kristina and Konstantin are currently living in London, and a month ago she uploaded a video of them going around the city showing us what London is like during lockdown. And boys but it was surreal to see!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzWhJ_p42nM

Just be warned, it is 17 minutes long. And they are speaking in Russian throughout. But it is definitely worth watching.

She also uploaded a video 10 days ago to mark the 75th anniversary of Victory Day:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ay_v5_0eVVU

Kristina is sitting in an office chair for all 8m 36s of the video. It starts with her talking at length to camera. I admit, because I don't understand Russian, I started winding through it after about 20 seconds. But, it is a good job I didn't just leave the video because, at 1m 9s, she starts singing. And after this song finishes (at 5m 33s), she starts singing another!

You can really sense the feeling in her voice.

Thank you for doing this, Kristina!

Saturday may have been a special day for Stefania, but today is a special day for one of her Leader Club team-mates.

It is Polina Ustinova's 22nd birthday!!!

С Днем Рождения Полина!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

I hope she has had a really enjoyable day, and that the coming year is a good one for her.

I realise that the Cyprus international team has been going through a bit of a changing of the guard the past couple of seasons, but I really hope that we do see Polina competing again, once everything gets back to normal.

(Although Polina is Russian, she lives permanently in Cyprus. So, she is in the same boat as the other skaters that are based on the island. Because the MyMall rink has been closed, they haven't been able to get on the ice for the past year).

CaroLiza_fan

It's that time of year again. When we have a lot of birthdays in quick succession amongst the Cypriot skaters.

To kick it off, today is Polina Ustinova's 23rd birthday.

:cheer: С Днем Рождения Полина!!! :cheer:

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

I hope she is having a really enjoyable day, and that the coming year is a good one for her.

Can't believe that in a few months time it will have been 8 years since Polina made her Junior GP debut. Where has the time gone?!

Anyway, all the best to her!
