Anyone in Vancouver watching practices? Any updates? I heard Lacoste arrived this morning..

Let the game begin...

I was there for part of the day yesterday. I'm not an expert and I didn't take notes, so I can't give details, but I can give a few general impressions. First of all, the Agrodome is COLD--if you're going there, bundle up!
In the morning practices, the only senior man to show up was Ehren Jaleel and he seemed to be getting a feel for the ice, rather than seriously practicing. The only senior lady out of the first 2 flights was Diane Szmiett. The jumps that went well looked so strong and sure, it was surprising when she missed one. I liked her skating.
In junior men, I think I only saw about 9 in the morning practices.
Patrick Wong seemed to have potential--he just needs a bit more strength to land the jumps consistently.
Asher Hill completely mesmerized me. The jumps weren't there, but his skating was gorgeous and so fluid. Within ten seconds, he made me a fan for life.
Paul Poirier really impressed me. He seems to have everything except a triple axel. The only problem he had was with triple-triple combinations--he often stumbled out of the second jump--but all of his individual triples were solid. He also had great spins and movement.
In junior dance, I saw the first two and a half flights. (Then we had to go back to the Coliseum to warm up for a while.) I really enjoyed every single dance team I saw, even though there were obvious differences in skill level.
In the first flight, Stuckey/Mior impressed me. In the second, I fell in love with Ralph/Hill. They need more speed, but I think they show a lot of potential for a team in their first year of juniors. Routhier/Saucke-Lacelle were very good. Out of the teams I saw, they seemed to have the best speed and "finish" in their skating.
In senior dance, I really liked the new partnerships of Senft/Hill and Girard/Dougherty. Crone/Poirier were impressive as well. It's amazing that Paul Poirier can compete at such a high level in two very different disciplines. Weaver/Poje and Virtue/Moir were both great as expected.

He's got a good chance! With all the focus on Chan and Buttle, he might just surprise everyone...................I still think he would have made a gorgeous pairs skater;)
