Pre-Worlds News!!

I watched today's newsclip.
Mao landed 3A easily, not a combo though.
Nakano was also practicing 3A, still a bit underrotated.
Joubert landed 4T, not sure about lutz.

Thanks for the clips. I don't understand the language but the reporter seemed quite taken with Lambiel, I don't blame her.

Mao

Mao is simply the best, 3+3, easy easy, she really puts lots of so-called top tier male skaters(Jeffrey example)' jumps to shame.

I can't stand watching Nakano. Her wrapped leg! Her build is also out of proper proportion. Her torso is much longer than her legs, which makes her look ridiculous on ice.

The main thing about a triple Axel combo (even a 3A/2T) is that then she could do two triple Axels in the same program.

Yeah. She had a 3A and a 2A+3T in her program before, so maybe the 2A+3T will now be her 3A+3T, along with her solo 3A.

Don't think she'll change her jump layout. Skaters always practice more stuff than what their current competition requires. Miki Ando even nailed a couple of quads during GPF practice session but she had no intention to actually do it in competition.

With your body prejudices you could never be a judge! I think Nakano is lovely. But I do enjoy reading your passionate charges.

Yeah, MM had a thread last year on Mao beating the men at a pro-am cheesefest.

practice footage

Mao Asada, Nakano, Brian's practice footage

Both Mao and Brian looked strong. Mao's 3A looked so easy and it's actually hard to tell whether it's a 2A or 3A without replay. She really puts lots of male skaters to shame.

Looks to me Brian's definitely going to land on the podium, the question is gold, silver or bronze?

Mao's spiral and Biellman look very impressive. She became more flexible, it seems - she now uses both hands to catch the blade. I find it admirable that every time she steps on ice she improves something - a small thing, perhaps, but step by step she becomes a better skater.

Brian's looking good. I hope there will be some Stephane, Nobunari and Daisuke clips up sometimes soon.

You're right on Mao. Her one-hand biellman was not very impressive as her back was not well bent. But two-hand biellman in this clip was really good.

I really love Mao.

thanks for the videos, iloveaxel!!! Nakano looks great.. nice triple axel. I am not bothered at all by her wrap.. i find it relaxing.. no worr of double footing the jump. She is a very pretty skater and very underestimated in my opinion. has she ever landed that triple axel in competion? i know she tried it....

If properly done, Nakano's 3A seems ratifiable.

Some Japanese media say Oda may try 4Lz in his program.
I don't believe he can actually land it, anyway, if he can make 3.5 revolutions and avoid falling, he may manage 6 points at best. That's better than another 2A or downgraded 4T(4T<).

Nakano can't do a real 3A. She does not have the jump height and her rotation speed is not sufficient. That 3A was severely underrotated.

The Japanese media is delusional if they are pushing Oda to attempt 4Lz. All those quad attempts on that clip were not ready for prime time.

I think Nakano looks lovely. I don't think she's any more out of proportion than Sasha Cohen, who has VERY short legs, and I doubt you would say Sasha looks ridiculous. Nakano has a wonderful style that suites her well (her Memoirs of a Geisha is gorgeous!), and her leg wrap doesn't really bother me. Its not as pretty as a jump with the ankles neatly crossed, but its not that much of a distraction IMHO.

If take out the Name Nakano, I wouldn't even know that you were talking about her. She is beautiful, IMO. Someone else would fit your description of this sort, but not her,:) such as Elvis Stojko, and Takahashi. But they both had/have such expressive way in skating that out weighed their physical disadvantages.
