Predictions

Okay, here goes:

Mens: Joubert, Lysacek, Geobel - not necessarily in that order.

Ladies: Cohen, Sokolova, Sebestyen

Pairs: Zhang/Zhang, Obertas/Slavnov, Inoue/Baldwin

Dance:Belbin/Agosto, Delobel/Schoenfelder, Domnina/Shabalin - possibly Wing/Lowe

I'd love to see some surprises though.

As always, I stick with the ladies ;)

So, that said, as most of you know I really try to refrain from making predictions, except when it's a walk in the park for somebody. And now that somebody is Cohen. She'd have to mess this one up pretty badly to lose. So it's not impossible but fairly unlikely (that she will not win).

It's too early for this but I will say it is Cohen's to lose. She has mild competition.

Skate Canad will be more interesting.

What

Sasha has stepped into Marias Bs shoes no competition so she racks up medals. What fun it will be when she faces Irina and Michelle.

Well...with all due respect to the other skaters, it's not Cohen's fault that she has "no competition" at these events. She doesn't have a say in who she skates against.

Hey Red Dog, do you know this little factoid? The term "Devil's Advocate" comes from old Catholic Church procedures for conferring sainthood. Evidence was presented in "court" about how good this person was, how many miracles he did, etc., etc.

Then the Advocate for the Devil would get up and try to present the case for the other side -- that is, he would try to claim the person's soul for the Devil by listing all the bad things that the candidate did in his life.

MM :)

No, I didn't know. Thanks for the little tidbit- quite interesting... As a Kwan non-fan, I think this title is very appropriate for me in this forum

MM - Brush up your Catholicism. I believe the Devil's advocate was simply to disprove the case for sainthood, i.e., that there were no miracles. It wasn't to pass judgment on the candidate's 'sins'. Sinners do become saints.

The term is now in mainstream and it is used to disprove any theroem.

There was a best selling novel many years ago about a Priest called into a small town in Italy whose people demanded that one of their own should be elevated to sainthood. Every town in Italy wanted their own Saint. You may find the book some day so I won't tell you the rest of the story. It's called the Devils Advocate.

Red Dog

I read your post. Did I misquote Sasha? I believe she stated in her interview that she is only as good as her competitors I believe thats what she said . I believe she said When she wins Nats it will be sweeter if Michelle is there. I was stateing she has had no compitition so far. Enough Said.

I always predict incorrectly and change my mind so many times that I'm not ever sure how far off I was...having said that, rain's list seems very probable to me too.

You did not state what you thought about her quote so I don't know if you misquoted her or misunderstood her or not. But I took your comment to mean that Sasha has no competition, therefore the reason she's racking up all these medals; therefore implying that if she actually HAD some competition she wouldn't have any medals (or as many medals). This lead me to respond with the comment above. Sorry if I misunderstood your point, and I agree with you actually that she has had no competition thus far. But it's not her fault.

Now that Sasha is out of it, I'm rooting for BeBe! 'Granny' Julia will be up there, too, but my favorite is BeBe.

I would LOVE to see Bebe do well in this competition! She's the one I'm rooting for in the Ladies competition. In pairs, I think my bias might show a little bit (check out the siggy line, LOL) but I'd love to see Amanda & Mark do really well this week. They have really strong programs and really have nothing to lose by going all out this week. I have to root for the US men too and I especially have my hopes that Timmy does a great job. Dance sounds like its Tan & Ben's to lose but I hope that Megan Wing & Aaron Lowe end up on the podium as well. :agree:

How about a US sweep in dance? Okay, Delobel and Schoenfelder could spoil my dream podium. Sigh...

Let´s not forget that Maria B won Worlds 1999 with Kwan being the second.
