Question about Lambiel's Olympic LP scores

Lambiel was credited for doing two 2A's in his Olympic LP. The first (originally an intended 3A) gave him 3.59 with GOE and the second gave him 4.30 with GOE. But aren't you not allowed to repeat a jump unless it is in combination? Or is that just with triple jumps? Otherwise, one of his 2A's should count for nothing, I thought.

The Zayak rule does not apply to doubles. :)

Except in pairs where the double axel is included for some inexplicable and utterly stupid reason.

But IIRC there is also a strange rule that says you can't do two double Axels in sequence.

I thought the rule for paris was that you could...that's the only way you can do either two triple toes or two double axels since if you don't do them in sequence or combination you can't repeat them. I pretty sure i saw a couple of pairs doing 2A/2A sequences at the Olympics.

That makes sense to me just because I haven't seen any pairs going for any side-by-side triples besides toe loops and salchows. There's not the same spectrum of jumps in pairs.

I guess it depends on how the ISU wants to change the sport - if its side by side (higher level) triples and quads then they might have to sacrifice some of the training time they put into the actual pairs skating stuff.

I also don't think its justified since the Zayak rule was brought in when in the aldies competition it was was a pretty similar state of affair s- mostly triple toes and salchows.

My actual thoughts on why the rule change was made was in order to to give Totmianina & Marinin the gold in Torino against a healthy field of chinese skaters since they were the only tope pair doing two different triples in the LP and Shen& Zhao had been doing 2a/3t and then solo 3t. My thoughts are they god their wish.
