Random Figure Skating Questions

I have a question about Fan Fests. Do the skaters actually look at them?

Oh God I hope not. Because it'd mean they frequent here and can you imagine some of them reading what's written about them? Patrick Chan, Jason Brown, Ashley Wagner... :hopelessness:

You're right, I actually hope they didn't read some of the horrible things that people say........Especially poor Patrick Chan. He used to get so much flack on this site that it was hard to read the comments. He'd win and then all I'd read would be....Patrick Fell 20 times and still won......This sucks.

Granted, Patrick had a couple of programs that contained falls and he'd usually win due to his PCS scores which, IMO were very well deserved.

Actually, it was Patrick's situation that caused us to invent the fan fest folder in the first place. Patrick had so many passionate and enthusiastic fans, and at the same time so many detractors, that we decided to create a "Fan Fest" where his supporters could gather and celebrate their favorite guy, and the rules were, critics keep out! :) Fan Fests are intended to be just that. If you want to bash someone, I guess that's what The Edge is for ("Keep the Edge sharp! )

By the way, the Yuzuru Hanyu Fan Fest thread has 4,570,868 posts. If Yuzuru wants to read it, he'd better get started.

Dear God, I hope the skaters aren't reading these, and that any skaters who mention the Internet are just talking about a few random tweets. It never crossed my mind until I saw folks asking about commenting that a skater would read these boards. Why on earth would a skater do that? What is to be gained? Crikey...

I applaud Alexa Scimeca's sentiment in her TSL interview: paraphrasing: I never read or listen to anything on the Internet, I like to keep my focus. Chris can read it because "that crap" (exact quote) doesn't affect him.
I also got the impression Alexa was talking about commenters like TSL rather than random fans, which were not in her equation at all. That's just my impression.

Ok, something light here. Have any of you ever seen the movie "Center Stage" I've seen it several times and my dance students really loved it. However, it wasn't until recently that I watched it and kept thinking to myself. "Who is that Blonde Dancer Boy?" Then it hit me...OMG that's Illia Freakin Kulik!!

I know Sonia Henie made movies and Mitch Gaylord was in that horrible movie American Anthem. Can you think of any other athlete's who have been in Movie's.

I've seen Center Stage tons of times (but from a dancer's perspective; I'm a ballet/modern dancer by background)... Mind. Blown.

Do YOU think it's acceptable to fall on your butt four times in a competition and still win?

At least Hanyu had the grace to be embarrassed about the result at CoC. Chan gets what he gets because he's arrogant about it.

Did you really not know this? It's the only reason I watched this movie, and then I complained incessantly afterwards that "Sergei" didn't get enough screen time.

He did his own work in the practice scenes, but obviously had a dancer double for the big finale. Also, my sister and I will every now and again turn to each other and say "Mafia" in that flat Ilia tone and then dissolve into giggles.

Hello again Canadian's. I swear this is my last question of the night. There was a Male skater from Canada who was really flexible and had great spirals and falling leafs. It wasn't Eman but he did skate at the same championship that I watched. Do you guys have any idea who that might be.

Name that immediately pops into my head is Shaun Sawyer.

Has to be Shaun Sawyer. A favorite of mine that came out of Canada.

I just watched his LP from 4CC 2010. I forgot to mention what a great spinner his was. It's too bad he wasn't a better jumper as he had great style and beautiful body lines. Kind of like Adam Rippon without Adam's jumping ability.

They certainly do, and not just the fan fests :)

So you know the saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say, then......"

What are the exact times allowed for the SP and FS at the senior ISU level? Thanks to anyone who can help.

The pairs team, Christine Hough and Doug Ladret, from Canada play the Russian pairs team in The Cutting Edge.

Katarina Witt was in Ronin.

Both very small parts.

So happy for you! Who's this lucky skater? :)

I'm guessing (just guessing, mind you) it's probably a secret... But maybe we can get a hint, such as the continent they're from or the level they're skating at?

But most importantly,:cheer::clap: to Sam-Skwantch!
