Yah, the kids were probably tired.

Despite the competitors coming from all over Russia, the Moscow skaters still stood out from the rest. And Khrustalniy's skaters are in a class of their own.

Really nice to see skaters from -all- over Russia competing here.

Imagine travelling by train for several days from the Far East or Siberia to Tver with your team and trainers, an adventure for many a young child.

I think most of them fly these days... But it’s definitely a great thing for a kid to compete in National Championships.

Two standouts:

Veronika Zhilina, another Awesome Khrustalniy Ace in the making.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DP6hz7mrvp4
She rides on the best skates money can buy, wears an elaborate and probably expensive catsuit.
But she has that special quality over her, full of fire and determination and displays the same bravado as Trusova.

Aleksandra Chatkina, red hair and braid matched with a bright green dress only fiery reds can wear.

Smiling throughout her routine, she had fun skating.

Lots of routines skated at speed and having jumps with amplitude, displaying the skater's confidence, but landing without falling takes more experience for most of these young skaters.

Other young skaters broke down in tears, some even during their routine.

These young skaters need the experience, need to master their fears, channel their emotions, find the right balance between tension and relaxation.
This experience comes with lots of competitions, falls and rising from those falls better and stronger.

Kamila :(
That should be 3 spin bonuses, though. Might hold over Samodelkina, probably not.

Close finish in short program brought todays long sessions of figure skating to an end.

Sofia Samodelkina's excellent routine had to give way to Kamilla Valiyeva and Sofia Akat'yeva.

Those Khrustalniy skaters are in a class of their own, so airy, so light, so natural in their movements to the flow of the routine and rise and fall of the music.

Loved the fist butt that Davydov gave to set the CSKA skaters off, and the holding of both hands the Khrustalniy trainer used before setting his skaters off.

All of todays routines available in good quality here: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheFSRussia/videos

The younger boys were great to watch. Here's the first 6 out of 30 competitors.

1. Arseniy Fedotov 248.14
2. Nikolay Kolesnikov 233.44
3. Lev Lazarev 207.55
4. Aleksey Efremenko 191.89
5. Eduard Karartynyan 191.18
6. Ilya Neretin 171.74

Sambo 70 lads Fedotov and Kolesnikov clearly in a league of their own. Well done, everyone!

Yeah, older boys FS (as far as I could see) was also an interesting affair. I would have thought Mark Lukin would end up higher, but hey, great performances by all the guys! :agree:

And now you can watch a long round of competition in free skating for the "older" young girls:
Stream here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4s4fG8g4EHY
Results here: https://www.fsrussia.ru/results/1819/mlvozr1819/SEG006.HTM
Score sheets updated here:http://freeskating.info:5500
All completed routines in good quality available here: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheFSRussia/videos

Again, this competition gives excellent insight into the state of figure skating from the whole of Russia.
But the superiority of the Moscow rinks is quite obvious, and within Moscow there is one stand out rink that has the very best of the best skaters and trainers.
