Ryan Bradley NEEDS a New LP!

BTW, I'm only making a case for Ryan to make top 10, not to medal, nor to hit top 6.

Bradley could medal if he skates the best competition of his life. His planned jump content is the highest in the World in terms of base value (aside from Kevin Reynolds, but let's be serious - Kevin is never going to do a Quad Loop and his other Quads / Triple Axels are frequently underrotated). He could certainly beat all of the Europeans, given where they are at this season. If more than 1 of the Japanese Men fail to deliver, Ryan can be on the podium if he truly does his best. Maybe the confidence of being American Champion will pull it out of him?

In addition, Kevin isn't going to be there anyway.
Yes, I've never been that impressed with the Europeans, Brezina being an exception and I really don't know for sure cause I haven't watched his European skates yet. Florent is great, but he spends 40 seconds of his program thrusting his pelvis (and people are fussing at Bradley for his gestures?!). Tomas has done well during the GP, but his programs don't strike me either.

I had a great time tonight watching old coverage of Ryan on youtube.

Of course I was looking for the right FS for him to skate to at Worlds. (;^) But in the process I discovered quite a bit about Ryan, like how his father gave up his 17 year medical practice in order to move the entire family to Colorado so Ryan could have the best of everything in skating (ah, the sacrifices families make; btw loved seeing his folks up in the stands during his 2007 FS). And how he grew 10 inches in two years from 14 to 16 yrs. of age.! Lol, and I also was surprised to see that he skated at the 2000 Keri Lotion Classic in Kennewick, Washington (click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gbYSmZ2h2Y); I was there but don't recall seeing him! (8^O

But most of all I loved watching him skate....such potential unrealized.....truly sad, makes me think of Christopher Bowman in this way. Natural performers with an innate ability to jump, and jump HIGH in Ryan's case! But injuries & inconsistency have held him back, as well as his work ethic imho. So busy being the class clown that he hasn't worked on the things everybody has been telling him to work on, which you can hear from Dick Button all the way back from when Ryan was 16 yrs. old ~ they ALL recognized his ability to JUMP BIG ~ and also they kept saying he needed to work on his basics, transitions, and spinning. Yet watching some of his skates from age 16 to 27, nothing has changed, except I would say he was more focused when he was younger, eager to do better. Then it seemed he lost his focus later on, most likely due to age & injury, thus preferring to ham it up instead, mayhap thinking he's too old to change now. You're never too old, just as his coach Tom Z. told him in the K&C this past weekend when Ryan said "one year too late" and Tom replied "it's never too late", and he was right!

Okay, so though I honestly loved each & every one of Ryan's past skates, these ones are my favorites:

1.) 2004 SP "New York, New York" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOk5qjrUlqo&feature=related) ~ ah, this is the way I think a senior men's program should look like (ham it up in the SP, but be a bit more serious & respectful in the FS), complete with black pants, white shirt, black bowtie. Very slick & sophisticated, so one could focus on his gorgeous jumps, beautiful footwork sequence, musicality/flair/artistry/presentation, and his exquisite long lines in his camel spins. This look is a throwback to the 1920's & the leading men of that era, which is making a comeback this month on the cover of Vanity Fair, in particular Jake Gyllenhaal, whom Ryan looks like: http://justjared.buzznet.com/photo-gallery/2515974/vanity-fair-hollywood-issue-01/

2.) 2008 FS "Charlie Chaplin Medley" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jvNVQRjdU4&feature=related) ~ another ah, what can you say, this is who Ryan is, a clown at heart, complete with moves, attitude, steps, personality, he has it all! :) And again he looks like Jake Gyllenhaal: http://images.picturesdepot.com/photo/j/jake_gyllenhaal-6475.jpg http://d.yimg.com/a/p/ap/20110131/c...1e498a-e601bd8ba871463ba2038772d01e498a-0.jpg

3.) 2004 FS "Country Medley" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISEYOXCf4zk) ~ I looooooooooooved this program, made me want to get up and dance, especially when he dances during the footwork sequences!!!! BRAVO, Ryan Bradley, BRAVO! And Dick Button agrees with me throughout the performance, expressing what we all think, he has so much talent, but he's undisciplined, he's not as good as he could be, he has it in him to be a World Champion. ITA!

The following two were for some reason dropped, but what I did see of them at Liberty was great:

4.) 2008 FS "Western Movies Medley" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odMp1eFcRdc&feature=related) ~ lol, like the country medley, he's a natural when it comes to the South, and it even has the music from Clint Eastwood's "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly". In fact I'm wondering if this year's Men's Novice Champion, Nathan Chen, copied his SP from Ryan's. (;^)

5.) 2008 SP "Elvis Presley Medley" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evYRFDycJSQ&feature=related) ~ love the music, the look with the slicked back black hair, black pants, and dark blue silk shirt, makes him look just like The King! In fact it reminds me of his "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" routine this year in some ways, shades of Elvis in G.I. Blues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4e_rhpmbpQ&feature=related (can't resist a man in uniform serving his country!)

***NOTE: this one might go over well in Japan, whom are HUGE Elvis Presley Fans, fact. His daughter, Lisa Marie, even married her fourth husband in Japan.***

Oops, one more, his 2006 FS to "Saturday Night Fever" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfghGWFE6Y8)I do recall seeing! (:^D I loved it then & I love it now!

GOOOOOOOOOOOO RYAN BRADLEY!!!!!

wouldn't that be something? but I'm not going to get my hopes up and jinx the dickens out of Ryan

I will be a little surprised if Bradley's clown acting in Japan becomes a crowd favor as much as he had in US. Not saying that it's impossible. I don't know exactly what reaction the Japanese will give. I assume that if Bradley do well, the Japanese will like him. However, I believe that Japanese (and Asians in general) like prince-like characters more than clown-like characters. Therefore, Stephane Lambiel, Jeffrey Buttle, Jeremy Abbott, and Johnny Weir (also Brian Joubert, Alexei Yagudin, Patrick Chan as well)were and are favored in Asia.

Probably Bradley has never thought about the goals in his competitive skating beyond US Nationals. He was sooo thrilled to receive the National Champion's honor. Use this program to open the door of other countries? ...I don't know.

If Jeremy were on the team, I would also say he would have a hard time beating Patrick or Dai without his quad, although he could medal.

The way you say it made me chuckle, Layfan.

Layfan - In my estimation, that whole group of Senior Men will be battling each other for gold and some will settle for silver and bronze. Anyone who can predict a winner in that Worlds and he actually wins has parapsychotic powers.

I think iF Dai and Chan skate clean, you dont need much of extra abilities. If they dont skate clean then yes there will be more battling for it.

If Ryan skates his plan, he will do fine. 4T+3T and 3A in the short, 4T+3T, 4T, 3A, 3A+2T in the long.

At least he will place ahead of Oda, who will do 4T+3T, 3A+3T, 3Lz+3T, 3T+3T+3T+3T and be disqualified.

And having watched Kevin van der Perren's programs at Europeans, Ryan's spins are definitely better than Kevin's: Ryan's spins are well centered if not particularly creative, and while not fast, are not snail slow either.

Check out his Willy Wonka Exhibition number at Nationals:

Would you like to see him convert this to an LP?

I've got to admire his ability to land a quad under show lighting.

I was expecting more from the Willie Wonka number, but maybe I just got spoiled by Shawn Sawyer's Mad Hatter LP at Canadian Nats.

I second that. I felt a bit let down by Bradley's gala aside from the perfect quad toe he had the guts to land. Both his SP and FS were more entertaining and had more character.

I was surprised how much I loved it, well more specifically the first part wherein Gene Wilder is talking & the music (didn't realize before how special that music really is). Lol, I can't believe I almost cried from joy & wonder because it brought me back to 1976 and buying Wonka Bars all that summer (btw that's when they were first released)! I was just a baby when it was released in 1971, so my first introduction to the FABO world of Willy Wonka was 1976, and ALL that delicious candy; there's even old footage of me & other kids eating the bars on the "J.P. Patches" show. For those not in the know, the "J.P. Patches" show is the longest running kids show in the United States from 1958-1981; my eldest sister even appeared on it in 1978 as a Princess; she & the other contestants were running for Queen that year. :)

Anyhow, back to Ryan's "Willy Wonka" exhibition skate, I loooooooooooooooved it (except for the Oompah Loompah part)! And you know when I love something because I will watch it again & again ad nauseum (though I have to admit I watched his "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" routine 3times more).

The opening with Gene Wilder talking in such wonder & beauty, then saying "we'll open with a spin" with Ryan then proceeding to go into a spin on cue was puuuurfect, as well as seconds later when Gene said something about "wonder" then Ryan doing a quad was otherworldy, fit the music & the words perfectly, as did everything else. The Oompah Loompah part was a letdown after that though. :( But everything else was WONDERFUL! Thank You, Ryan Bradley, for bringing me back to the joy & wonder of being a kid again. Love you!

p.s. Ryan reminds me of the character Mike Teevee. :D

p.s. I just watched a video of Evgeni Plushenko skating a few days ago at Art on Ice in Switzerland and I was surprised that both he & Ryan both do a similar move, kinda like a karate chop high into the air!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzIMMk7IDDI (Ryan Bradley at 2:32 into it)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMjMa-FouYM (Evgeni Plushenko at 1:20)

My gosh, these guys astound me with their athleticism, still able to do quads & triple axels at 28 (Zhenya) & 27 (Ryan).

:party:GOOOOOOOOOO VETS!!!!!

:laugh::laugh: LOL, good one. But I think he has learnt his lesson by now.
You know his fans did (or planned to do < I m not sure), had banners saying NO MORE COMBOS, and were to take them out after his 3rd combo?

That's wonderful  but would he read them or be so focussed on his skating that he missed it.

BTW, while I like the Wonka number, I like Mozart better.

But don't hit on the hat, MM! Willy is supposed to be wearing a hat!

My last word on this subject -- I'm totally against the Mozart spoof -- it just emphasizes what's wrong with men's skating imho.

No wonder my nephew doesn't like skating, and I don't blame him, I'd rather see him play football any day.

That said, I hope to see Ryan Bradley do well, no matter the placement. Just skate clean for once in *both* programs. :)

GOOD LUCK & ROCK THE HOUSE @ WORLDS, BRADLEY!!!!

Amazing ability indeed!:bow::bow: Bradley is a dare devil! He is handsome. I love him too. Bet he'll help SOI show sales a lot if he goes on that show and he could be as popular as Michael Weiss. Guess Bradley belongs to showbiz more than to competition.

But I don't like this program much. Nothing special other than the quad and the back-flip.

Mathman, I agree. Too many hats, it has made me wonder too. Saw Jeremy's new ex. number then saw Ryan's ex. number. They even had the same ending - sitting on the ice in the same position.:sheesh: Too much!

Here I thought it was a good thing if someone could wear many hats.
Although it didn't work out too well for Bartholomew Cubbins ;) for a while.
