Sara Hurtado & Adrià Díaz split

I am not shocked given what we saw in the K&C at their last competition. That was a lot of pent up frustration. Starting over is not such a bad idea, if you have the right coach. Look at T/T, Orford/Hill and I/Z to name a few. If you're gonna dance let it be with someone you can smile with. Dancing and joy sort of go hand in hand, I'd say. This is coming from someone who absolutely loves watching them skate. I wish them both rest and some peace in what must be a very difficult time for both.

yes but canada and russia have tons of elite ice dancers.. not sure spain does

I really don't know what to say.

I am only a relatively recent convert to Ice Dance. But it is no exaggeration to say that Sara and Adria were one of my favourite couples. The chemistry between them was electric! Which is why this has come as such a shock.

To be honest, Sara's post seems really contradictory. At times it sounds like she wants to retire, at other times it sounds like she wants to carry on.

But, what is definitely clear is that she has got to the stage that she really needs a break away from skating.

Hopefully, this time away will allow her to think about what she wants to do with her life. Maybe she will come back, maybe she won't. But, whatever she decides, I wish her all the best for the future.

And I also wish Adria all the best for the future as well. This post has focussed in on Sara, as she is the one that has announced it. But, he is also in the position of suddenly being partnerless.

Who knows, after some time away, they may decide to get back together. Anything is possible in this sport!

I loved their enthusiasm and creativity
I will miss them so much.

Best luck to both of them in their future endeavors, both skating and non-skating.

They are (were) the Spanish of the Spanish for me. They made a difference on European figure skating field, they were different, they had the style of their own, they were unique. It's like you have something rare and then you break it and it is gone for good. I can't believe it, I know and I still can't.

What a shock. I loved those two, one of my favourite dance pairs.
They had something special and unique, and they looked great together.

I am so sad they split, and even more so because I had been looking forward to seeing them in person at Finlandia... then at TEB... then at again at GPF gala...

Well, I hope they will both be happy in the end.

I'm running in off the sidelines to say I will be wearing black all weekend. This really is a shame. They even made D&L's choreography interesting with their passion and musicality. Their Picasso FD is one of my favorites of the entire decade so far. I'm sorry they couldn't apparently work out their differences. I wish both of them well.

Picasso is for sure one of my top 10 FD of this decade too, perhaps even top 5.

Actually in spanish it sounded more like she was fustrated with the relationship, but I didn´t took the time to read it in english...

WHAT?!? I was shocked when I heard about this...and sad. I' only just begun to appreciate them fully.

Best wishes to both of them.

Oh no, I'll miss these two. They were one of the teams I was rooting for, so elegant. I was hoping to see them, and their 'Nostalgia', in person for the first time at EC. It's a shame too that they couldn't skate at least one GP to officially say bye to the public, but I guess they had their reasons. Good luck to the both of them in their future careers.

Just watched their Georges-Ethier skate on youtube. It was messy and they both made mistakes but Adria seemed most off. And man was she giving it to him in the kiss an cry. Is Marie France Dubreiul their coach ?- looked like her. Sara would not even sit next to Adria but ranted standing up. You didn't need to know the words but they were MAD! Mot unfortunate since they are a promising team.
Yeah, I thought she just had had a bad day in the office, it can happen to everyone. It looked awkward because it happened at the k&c but I guess almost every team has moments like that. That's what I thought, I didn't give it too much weight.

It´s a real pity, they were always great on the ice.

I enjoyed their crafty performances and how they lifted up the Ice Dance scene. They might not have won big titles, but their programs were well received by the public and among skaters. Sara´s decision needs to be respected and I wish her and Adria the best of luck for the future.
