Sara Hurtado & Adrià Díaz split

I wish them well though I thought they had promise and were just getting some recognition - but there are so many interesting and talented teams so the void will be filled quickly. I wonder if there are mo re splits than usual and maybe people or skaters rather think it is the norm or is this just the normal progression of skating and the regular amount of break ups that come in a competitive sport and we are just reading or seeing more information than maybe before.

I'm running in off the sidelines to say I will be wearing black all weekend. This really is a shame. They even made D&L's choreography interesting with their passion and musicality. Their Picasso FD is one of my favorites of the entire decade so far. I'm sorry they couldn't apparently work out their differences. I wish both of them well.
Is there something wrong with D andL's choreography??? That is the insinuation I thought they have done some lovely work but that is just me.

Feeling bummed out abut this news. I thought they were pretty unique, and did not see this coming. I wish them all the best in their future careers.

It's also puzzling because their results clearly and unambiguously were improving internationally- they've been inching up the Worlds rankings every year since 2010 and were 5th at Euros last year. They truly were becoming a respected team internationally. Their outing early this season wasn't the best but they had literally months and months to pull it together even for the GP and definitely for Euros/Worlds. Obviously Sara's decision must be respected, and I am quite sure she does have her reasons, but from a pragmatic standpoint it just doesn't make much sense.

Sure I understand but what is pragmatic. One would think I and K were fools to break up. d and w and v and m were "retiring"; and I and K had not even hit I think their full potential or close to it technically or artistically. It didn't hurt they looked wonderful together too lol.

We can only imagine what was going on behind the scenes to cause a break up between these two as they were really breaking through. But I am familiar with the tension of turning up to work day after day if the professional relationship is not a good one because no matter how good a job is being done or how well that job is being rewarded, those benefits often cannot compensate for that feeling of just dreading having to go to that job every day. Given that Sara's statement indicates a problem with the relationship, perhaps that was it. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a seemingly very good thing in order to keep sane. I hope she has made the right decision for herself and that Adria is okay too. They will be missed.

Sad that they have split. I enjoyed their skating very much.

May I ask one thing- is it usual for just one member of a pair to announce a split on their FB? I can't help but feel it might have been better to manage one last show of togetherness and wait until it could be announced together by some means, even if just a joint statement released by their fed. This way seems to invite speculation and even maybe blame by some eager to read into into it ( I don't mean anyone here has).

Anyway, I hope both Sara and Adria are able to move forward in the way they each wish.

I feel really sad for this split (as spanish and as ice dance´s fan) and I think it is a pity that Sara made this decision now that they had got to be in the european top 5 and in the world top p 15 and after having been fighting and working hard during so many years but I understand that she doesn´t what to go on skating with Adriá if she doesn´t get on with him. What I don´t understand is that she announced the split in her facebook instead of announcing it with Adriá. I would like to know his version but I think it won´t be possible as the spanish press doesn´t pay much attention to figure skating (it is considered a minor sport), in fact I knew about this split in this forum instead in the spanish press.

To my mind, Sara won´t go on skating with another partner because there are very few male ice dancers in Spain and the ones who compete aren´t good enough to compete at Adriá´s level in international competitions.
I would like Sara to reconsider her decision because I liked this couple

Unless Robledo and Fenero (or for that matter, one of the other teams in Dubreuil and Lauzon's group) might be splitting, and she plans to form a new team with the man in that split team already.

Is she dating an ice dancer?

No idea. But she is the stronger member of this team. There's really no question about it when you see them live. When I saw them at Skate Canada last season, he was struggling in practice not to drop her during most of their lifts. They were also much slower than all the other teams they were challenging. It looked, however, like they were really challenging themselves with their choreography and trying to push themselves toward the next level. Which I really respect. And, of course, their Paso presentation was fabulous. I will miss the team; but I have to admit of the two of them, I will miss the potential she had on the ice more.

I do think she is better than him, but not that much better. With that said even if she was A LOT better than him, there is still the reality that she has to find a better partner than him, or else she's just going to be in the same situation, but worse- she'll still be better than her partner, who is worse than Diaz was. I honestly do not see that any of the known potential partners for her is better than Diaz. At all.

Now of course this doesn't take into account interpersonal relations, which it does sound like may have deteriorated, and I agree with others that if that had gone past a point of no return, that's enough reason to want to leave a partnership. But if her main issue and what lead to the deterioration is that he's not as good as her, unless she knows something we don't I'm afraid she's about to get more of the same with her new partner.

I do suppose it is possible she is thinking of country-hopping, but while don't think they'd take it to French levels, I highly doubt Spain would easily release her, and she's going to be 23 in less than 2 weeks. Waiting a year or two for a release can't be a good prospect.

I heard it is not so difficult to obtain the ¨nationality¨ spanish, maybe is easier to someone to skate with them for Spain

According to an IN article after the Salt Lake City competition, Hurtado, Diaz and Madison Hubbell shared an apartment. If Hurtado and Diaz were having problems it probably didn't help that they were always together.

Even if she were to find a partner, sync in ice dance is everything, and it takes lots of time to achieve, that´s one of the many reason Meryl and Charlie, Tessa and Scott were so successful.

Believe there was a misunderstanding. Diaz, Hubbell, and Fenero share an apt it seems, according to some social posts.

Thanks for the info! If she felt that he was frequently endangering her during lifts, then it does make sense for her to decide to call it quits IMO. After all, health is one thing one absolutely can't change.

In that case, it would indeed be a good idea for her to look internationally for a new partner. I'm sure she'll have a fair number of options. Also, a relative lack of competition in Spain would be an additional advantage for a partner from a country where ID is a prominent discipline. And since she'll have to miss this season anyway, the quarantine won't affect her career.

I am still trying to come to terms with split, it has broken my heart. I just loved them, they were so unique.

Partnerships are very difficult when they are romantically involved just my observation with this couple threw the years. From her announcement it
sounds like she will not be looking for a new partner. Sad.....
