I don't think it sounds like that at all? At the end of the announcement she says she feels strongly her skating career isn't over.

Marca has published an interview with Sara. She says she is looking for a partner to keep competing, but it's hard because there aren't any ice dancers of that level in Spain, so she has to look into skaters of another country. She gives herself until next summer to find a partner. About her split with Adrián, she says the relationship had wore out (does that make sense?), and they kept competing together because of their projection, but she was not happy. They are still friends, and were texting through the interview.
The interview doesn't adress if Adrián will keep competing.

Thank you very much for the link, ffloweer. It's still difficult for me to figure it out, but you can never know what's going on in a partnership. She says that they sought psychological help to work together, so it's not like they did not try. It simply couldn't work anymore. :sad21:

If they are still friends now, Maybe they split in order to preserve their friendship. Maybe working together in a stressful enviroment was doing something negative to them.

So, by the sounds of things, the pressure to do well was causing a LOT of tension between them. But, now that they are not skating together any more, they are getting along a lot better.
When you hear this, it is probably for the best that they split when they did. Otherwise, things could have boiled over big time, and they could have ended up hating each other. Which is never good.
I really hope it doesn't take Sara too long to find a new partner, as she is too good to be left on the sidelines. Although, if she does find somebody overseas, that will unfortunately mean an embargo. :disapp:
And the same with Adria if he is also looking for a new partner.
All the best to both of them for the future!

Absolutely stay away from the French Fed!
A healthy relationship with one's skating partner has to be top priority. And if that isn't possible, then she did the right thing. Every relationship has its ups and downs and its rough patches, and spending 7 to 8 hours a day with someone training at a high level intensity physically, emotionally and mentally, can really contribute to the demise of a relationship if it is not on a solid foundation. If professional help doesn't work, and it starts to undermine joy, self-esteem, how one sees oneself as a person, and how one finds oneself reacting and behaving with people, then I can completely understand her decision to walk away. Yes, there are those who have stayed together for the sake of reaching a goal (Bourne/Kraatz), but if the goal is not being reached because training is no longer productive, there's no sense in that. And I think it is more important to take care of the skater as a healthy person first. There's a long life after competitive skating to be lived.
It takes a lot to have a successful partnership. First of all there must be mutual respect and trust. Then there must be a shared work ethic, shared goals and sense of purpose, and the same level of commitment to reaching those goals. The personalities must match. And then we can look at the physical match, will the lines look right. And lastly are there country and money situations that need to be solved, and who would be the best coaches for this partnership. That's why I am so against this "nationalism" in skating. It's so hard for dance teams to find the right mix. Some really talented skaters never get there. Skaters at an elite level must be able to find their partners in a global community.
If Sara needs some encouragement, she can look to Orford/Hill, who are embarking on a second partnership. They look really good, and definitely have potential to jump the ranks internationally.

Thank you for posting the article ffloweer! It is nice to get some more insight into what happened and why. I am still saddened over the split but it sounds like it was probably for the best.

Is Nelly looking? That would actually be interesting...
She said when Alex retired that she still wanted to compete, but she & Alex are listed for some shows over Christmas and she's been coaching in Obersdorf, so I don't know if she's still looking.

I think she is a foolish girl to end this partnership. We all work with people we don't get on with but we just get past it.
She had a wonderful opportunity to have a good career in ice dance with a talent many would love to have & she has just thrown it away.
She has little chance of finding another quality partner & you have to question if she ever really wanted this at all.
A total waste.

I find it a bit hard to judge when someone chooses personal happiness over a career

I just think she had such potential to do well & maybe even be on the podium at a European Championships that she could have just stuck it out until the next Olympics. Many people have jobs they don't like & happiness is not an option they just do it.I find it a bit hard to judge when someone chooses personal happiness over a career
I really think she has made a big mistake that she will regret when older.
If she does not find a good enough partner & just drifts down the ranks then I think it's a real waste.

Well I do think that Sara is fortunate that she was 'able' to just quit her job when it became clear it was emotionally unhealthy for her. In the USA in particular where there isn't any social safety net if you just quit a job (if you are laid off there is something of one, but not if you quit, and even if you're laid off you don't get anything close to what you were making from unemployment benefits) it's true many people can't put their personal happiness or even their mental health (if the job is truly awful) over the job and the money that comes with it. Until they find a new job they are pretty much stuck with what they have. So she's actually in a fortunate situation to be able to say this is not healthy for me, bye, and that's that. On the other hand skating is one of the few jobs where you often have to spend money to be able to do it instead of getting money from it- she might actually be financially in a better position now.
But basically, I do not think anyone should or should have to stay in a job that is making them truly and consistently unhappy, or where they are enduring mental, physical, or emotional abuse (not saying Sara was at all) or where the job for whatever reason is negatively impacting their mental health. I think anyone in one of those situations should do all they can to extract themselves from the situation and I am happy for her that she was able to do so.
Maybe if you have people depending economically of you and you don´t know to do other things, otherwise is a BAD decision to stay in that job. And like tulosai said, Sara is investing money in figure skating.
