Sasha's bio on USFSA says that she started skating at age 7. I read somewhere that Galina pulled her from gymnastics around that time because she thought it was too dangerous for Sasha, so skating was the next thing.
Not sure if this has any revelence here, but I decided to look at a couple of skaters, see the relation between age start skating and age of 1st Senior competition.
~Sasha started competing as a Senior at 15 years old, so she was skating for 8 years at that point.
~Michelle started skating at age 5, and started her Senior career at age 13: 8 years.
~Bebe started skating at age 6 and started on the Senior circuit at 13: 7 years.
~Kimmie started at age 6, first competion as Senior, age 15: 9 years.
In any case, it seems like the skaters took around the same time to move up to Senior level.
So, even if Sasha got started skating a bit later, she still moved up through the ranks at a similar pace. Now with the age rule, seniors are 15+, so starting at 7 puts you right on track!
